This course is notorious for 5 hour rounds. The time before my most recent visit I sat I a tee box with 4 other groups on the back nine and watch 3 foursomes quit. It was the only reason we finished in 5 hours. They don’t manage pace of play and rangers don’t exist. I didn’t see a single ranger yesterday, the last time I played I did see one under a tree, he might as well have been taking a nap. This is why as a local, I rarely play here. I was given the drive club spiel while checking in since I’m local and I declined. Truth is, I’ve been a member before but it’s not worth it if pace of play is so slow. We returned yesterday with the first tee time of the day at 7:00am for my fathers birthday, it is after all, an awesome course to play and what could go wrong if we’re first out. WELL, they apparently sent family with a small child out on the back at 9am. We immediately saw that outright sub 4 hour round was going to turn to 5 hours with how slow they we’re playing. I called the pro shop twice and both times they said they would send someone out to deal with the family in front of us and apologized. Nobody ever showed up. This is exactly why despite being one of the closest courses to me and playing nearly every weekend that I only visit Shingle Creek once every year or two. Always hoping for it to be different but it never is. It’s a nice layout, great condition, excellent staff, but the pace of play is consistently miserable.

Great course, great conditions, friendly staff, but pace was abysmal. The beverage cart asked us if pace was slow and if we had seen a ranger because other groups had complained to her about it, we concurred and she said she would let someone know. This was on hole 10 or 11 and we still never saw anyone after that. Pace actually got slower after this. We were laughing with the group behind us that there were 13 people on the 18th hole. Foursome in the fairway, and waiting on the tee, a twosome, a solo, us (twosome), and another foursome behind us. It wasn’t 5.5 hours at shingle creek bad, but close. Again, can’t say enough great things about the course and facilities but pace is a round killer and an experience killer. This is why Orange County National is my favorite place in central Florida, they have the best rangers and pace of play around.

The course was so dry, hard, and fast it was kind of a joke. I like faster playing conditions but could not believe the amount of great chips and putts around the greens that just sailed by the hole and in some cases off the green. I hope this had to do more with the recent cold weather but I’ve played through every cold front and freeze this year and have not seen anything this bad. Felt like they should have been watering the greens inbetween groups like the ‘04 US Open at Shinnecock

Pace of play was horrible, not one ranger in sight. I wish more places took it as seriously as Orange County National does, they are usually all over it.

On cart Gps doesn’t give any yardages, why even have them?

I enjoyed the layout and course conditions the first time I played but for all the reasons given I won’t be back for a while. There are too many other places in central Florida (unfortunately pace of play is a problem everywhere).

Really not sure how to rate this course. I want to give it 5 stars across the board and have already raved about this place to several friends and plan to return ASAP. That being said, there were no range balls available although while waiting on the first tee I saw a few members pull up with range balls. There was no starter, the first tee was a cluster. A couple of young guys took the liberty of trying to pair people up together to speed things up but somehow I saw two FIVEsomes go off in front of me. Our tee time was 2pm, teed off 20 min late and didn’t finish till 7pm! We waited on every single tee box. I never saw a ranger the entire round to help speed up play. Honestly, this course was so good that I don’t care that 7 was under water or that some of the bunkers needed work and new sand. It would be very easy to fix these problems and improve the experience. To be fair, there was a tournament finishing up before us and a wedding going on so if staff was stretched thin that’s fine. I will be back very soon and hope I don’t have another 5 hour round, with a 50 min commute from downtown Orlando, it’s a huge time commitment to get out to play, just a little bit of help on pace of play would have greatly improved the experience.
