Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
Played On 03/03/2022A little bit off in a couple of ways.
I made a tee time about a month in advance directly from the Port Royal website and specifically chose the Robbers Row course for a 9:40 tee time. More on this later. The staff was great. Had a very friendly guy meet me at the bag drop and he took my clubs to the staging area while I checked in. Pro shop guy was very nice and actually got me a better rate than what I signed up for. They give you a warm up bag of 25 balls which was nice. At the range the hitting line was up so far that a significant part of it was actually on a downslope. That was awkward. Putting green was huge and had lots of targets. When I get to the first tee I find out that the members mens group have the tee at Robbers Row on Thursdays until 11 so I’m going to play the Barony course. That was quite disturbing, but maybe that’s why I got a better rate. Pro shop guy didn’t tell me this.
The Barony course was nicely laid out. No really hidden trouble and only one hole that was kind of weird (a short par 4 with a true 90- degree turn in it).
All in all ok. But I didn’t appreciate the switch.
Cimarrone Golf Club
Played On 09/25/2020Nice but a bit worn out
Very nice staff and the electric carts were a nice touch. This facility is a great place to play. It must be suffering of late from the hot weather. Greens were a little bumpy and had a few bare (burn) spots. The fairways were actually pretty well groomed.
I think this is a good place to play. Hopefully they can resolve the greeens issue shortly.
Eagle Harbor Golf Club
Played On 03/13/2020Nicest course this month
I’ve been in FL for a month and played a number of courses. By far Eagle Haebor was the best maintained of all of the places I’ve played.
Buffalo Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/03/2020As expected for a public course with a few nice surprises
First impressions were very good. Had an attendant greet me in the parking lot with a cart. The lady working the desk was truly inspirational. Best attitude I’ve seen in a long time.
The driving range was nice enough - a bit sandy on the tees but had a good number of targets to help me dial things in before my round.
The course conditions were as I’ve come to expect in late Feb/early Mar - a little rough around the edges but not so much that it interferes with play.
We were a twosome and the group in front of us let us play through on the second hole. They were very nice about it if that’s any indication of the folks who play here regularly.
The layout is pretty simple. Not a lot of “exciting” holes and mostly straight fairways. Only two spots on the course came up where local knowledge was important. There’s a hidden creek on #14 (I think) and on #18 I hit the drive of the day exactly where I planned but it rolled all the way across the fairway into the hazard.
All in all it was a little pricy for the experience but the people made it a great day.
Summerfield Crossings Golf Club
Played On 02/28/2020I’m sure it was once very nice
The overall surroundings area hints that this should be a nice club. However the closer you get wear and tear and a general lack of maintenance show up.
I found the clubhouse and parking lot showing significant signs of wear. A little cleaning and paint would go a long way here. More importantly for the golfer, though, is that the course was in the same condition. Cart paths were a little rough, fairways very patchy and the greens were fast but quilted with patches of crabgrass. A number of the tee boxes were not level. On the good side, the bunkers had just the right amount of sand in them (unfortunately I had LOTS of opportunities to experience them!)
The staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
All in all, my impression is that the owners stopped investing in this place a number of years ago. Too bad because it really is a nice layout.
Hi, Stephen. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Summerfield Crossings Golf Club. We hope to see you again in the future.
Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club - Grizzly/Kodiak Course
Played On 09/15/2017Very pleasant day
Greeted enthusiastically by the outdoor guys. Treated quickly and professionally by the inside team. Practice area was nice, except for the chipping area - it was pretty chopped up. Not a dal breaker for me, though.
Course was in very good shape. Holes were fair with enough challenging features. Greens are HUGE, as evidenced by my 4-jack of number 18. (Something like an 80 footer. )
I was able to play with a member and if he was representative of the rest of them then this would be a great place to join if I lived here.
Thank you for the review.
