Could be great

This course could be awesome. The layout is very interesting and quite challenging, especially off the tee's. The condition of the course overall is not very good. Lots of tee boxes are bare and fairways for most part are decent but some bare spots. The positive was the greens. They rolled pretty true and quite quick. There are a few bare spots on a few greens but no real problem with greens. The course just looks unkept with bunkers getting overgrown, crab grass growing in clumps on fairways and the course is just disappointing to the eye. Again, this layout if in the condition of say Cape Fear National would be so awesome. I got a solid $30 tee time on golfnow so no problem playing for that. I would not pay rack rate to play here.I would rather go to a few other local courses if paying full rate.

Compass Pointe - Leland NC

First time here. Got a slightly cheaper rate on golfnow so why not. Staff was super friendly. There was a cart girl but the marshal still drove around offering water and lemonade. For a brand new course it is in pretty good shape. Greens roll pretty quick and true. They are very firm so you have to adjust when hitting iron shots because there is no holding a ball on the surface. Layout is pretty cool and I especially liked the par 5's at #2 and #18.
Overall I think it is a good addition to the area and a fun time on a solid course.

This was my 1st time at The Thistle. Drove down from Wilmington and that was an easier drive than I thought. I play a Tim Cate designed course in the Wilmington area and really enjoy it so I was excited to try The Thistle.
Course was in great shape. There was some sand on all the greens but they rolled true and had some pace. Fairways were in good nick. There was some rough but it was not penal Pace of play great (never saw anyone in front or behind. It was a Wednesday morning/afternoon). Some very challenging holes and interesting holes. I am not a long hitter so some of the par 5's played quite tough. Staff was great as well.
Will definitely be adding The Thistle to my rotation of courses. Already looking forward to returning.
