Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 11/10/2020Windy day
A very windy day, even for Ewa where wind is often a factor. No complaints though as we stayed dry.
Greens were in excellent shape.
Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 10/14/2020Always good
Always a good experience at Hawaii Prince. A resort course that is less challenging than some, somewhat forgiving, well-maintained, with a friendly staff. Excellent for food and snacks with very friendly staff in the restaurant.
I've had some bad rounds, but never a bad time at Hawaii Prince. After all, it's just a walk in the park with friends anyway, right?

Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 07/22/2020Always a good time
Prince is a fun, somewhat forgiving course. Staff is excellent, and so friendly.
Having 3 nines is a plus, offering a little more variety.
Conditions, all in all, are pretty good.
Restaurant is good, and great staff.

Prince is always very well maintained and has the friendliest staff around.
Always a great experience.
PS - AND I shot horribly.
Spooky Brook Golf Course
Played On 10/11/2017Well maintained course
Spooky Brook is a very well maintained course. From tee to green, it was in great shape. The fairways are generally forgiving, The greens are mostly pretty large, and not difficult to read.
The layout is okay, but certainly not remarkable. You won't be wow'ed, but you'll be pleased with a very well kept course.
Kapolei Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2015Beautifully maintained course
Like Turtle Bay, the things I love about this course are that due to the high level of maintenance performed, you're more prone to finding yourself with a decent lie, and the greens roll very true. You might not find yourself in a bare patch of ground your entire round, and the greens are about as clean as any you'll find on this island. Lots of water, but I didn't find any this round, so that was good. I intend to get back here soon.
Royal Hawaiian Golf Club
Played On 12/26/2014Interesting day
Recently the front nine was undergoing some reconstruction, so our round was the back nine twice. At the turn we were quite surprised to see an ambulance and several black Suburbans parked by the clubhouse. Turned out President Obama was on the front nine with his entourage. Despite the condition of the front nine they'd decided to play it. We watched them finish #9 and make the turn. Royal Hawaiian is always a challenge, and this day was no different. Be prepared to lose some balls.
Bay View Golf Course
Played On 11/12/2014Soggy round
This was my first experience at Bayview.
Although the weather was excellent, the course was very soggy. It seems to drain poorly, making for a muddy quagmire in places.
The grass was very long, even in the fairways, but the greens were in a little better shape. The rough was very thick and wet, requiring me to sometimes club up a couple of clubs to ensure I'd get out of it.
The greens fees were very cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for.
There was a lot of construction to a local sewer project going on, shortening one hole from a par 4 to a par 3, and creating a couple of detours.
The staff were friendly, and doing their best.
There are some beautiful views of Kaneohe Bay on the back nine.
All in all I did not have an experience I could recommend, but if you're just looking for a quick, cheap round, go for it.
Makani Golf Club
Played On 10/28/2014Nice ride in the country
Very enjoyable round at Big Island CC. Lots of sheep, turkeys, nene, and finches. Course is in great shape, and greens were very fast. Beautiful views. I'll be back.
Hawaii Country Club
Played On 09/10/2014As expected
I had heard this was a very casual, sparsely maintained course, so I pretty-much knew what to expect. It's not irrigated, so the grass is very dry, and the ball rolls a long way. When in doubt, club down for the added distance.
There are some blind shots, and trees in the fairway, but not many traps, and I recall only one water hazard. It wasn't busy, so I didn't have to worry about hitting up on anyone after a foursome let me play through. A few times I had trouble telling where my target was, and thank goodness there are lots of signs to point the way to the next hole as the layout winds around a lot.
Most of the greens are in pretty good shape, but be prepared to be hitting off a lot of hardpan in the fairway.
The staff is very friendly, as were the other folks I encountered, and the price is probably the lowest of any course on Oahu.
It's a really laid-back atmosphere. I may go back sometime when I just want a quick round to work on ball-striking. Also, some pretty views toward Diamond Head when you get on top of a few hills.
Mililani Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2014Quick Round
Very enjoyable round at Mililani. I expected slow play as we didn't start our round until 1:00 on a holiday weekend, but surprisingly, we finished our round in less than 3 1/2 hours. Course in good shape, and the greens were in very good shape. Be aware of distance to canal on #11 & #16. I lost one ball on approach to #11.
Makaha Valley Country Club
Played On 06/08/2014Makaha Valley
Although I struggled greatly, I still enjoyed this course very much. It can be a little narrow in places, and deep rough is unforgiving. So I did lose several balls. Accuracy over distance. Beautiful views of the surrounding Waianae Mountains and the ocean in the distance. I expected drier conditions, but's it's obviously irrigated very well to be as lush as it is in this area. The finishing hole is especially challenging with its extreme dogleg and elevation changes.
Highly recommend it. I'll be back.
Waikoloa Village Golf Club
Played On 05/12/2014Resort course with nice views
Enjoyed a round at this well-maintained course. The rough is very forgiving with usually only grass to catch an errant shot.
Only thing I didn't like was the pebble filled bunkers. Hardpan underneath required an accurate tempo to keep from drilling one across the green.
Only a couple of water hazards.
Ko'olau Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2014Right place, wrong time
I'd played Koolau four times previously, but never when the ground was so soggy as yesterday. It made for a lot of plugged balls, and they hadn't mowed the rough recently, so lots of searches for hidden balls. We lost balls, or had a lot of trouble finding balls that normally would have been visible. And hitting out of the rough meant an extra club every time. Can't beat the scenery though. I'll be back when it dries up.
Royal Kunia Country Club
Played On 11/11/2013Beautiful day at Royal Kunia
Beautiful weather on 11/11 after rainy periods the past few days. The course was in good shape, and played very fast. We finished in about 3 hrs 45 min. Beautiful views toward Diamond Head on many holes, and nice course layout. The links wind up and down the hillsides, and make for an interesting round.
Olomana Golf Links
Played On 10/16/2013Beautiful mountain views
Olomana is a pretty good golf experience. The course is not too hard, great variations in terrain, friendly staff, and has beautiful mountain views. Some of the course is a little rough, but with the beautiful views I give it 4 stars.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 09/20/2013Marriott Desert Springs
Played both the Valley and Palms courses, and had a good outing on each. They're very well maintained, plenty of shade trees, and fairly forgiving while being pretty well protected by the traps and water. Better views of the mountains from the Palms course, but both are very pretty. Thumbs up on each.
Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 6/17/2013Pretty resort course
First of all, I only spoke with three staff, clubhouse guy, and 2 cart guys, and all three were very friendly and helpful. Carts are average; no gps, or beverage coolers, and there was no beverage cart. Restaurant was to be closed in two hours from my tee time, and I made it in from the front 9 in time to grab a beverage and a snack.
Conditions were very good. Fairways were well defined, and rough was well maintained. Greens were in good shape and putts rolled true. Bunkers were fluffy, and embedded balls were easily excavated.
Design is pretty simple, nothing too inventive, but very pretty setting yielded a pleasant experience. Pace of play was very good, and I finished in only 3 1/2 hours including time in the restaurant. I'll be back.
Ewa Beach Golf Club
Played On 4/25/2013Beautiful and challenging
Ewa Beach is a beautiful, and wonderfully maintained course. It's very challenging to a hacker like myself, particularly the greens. I would recommend the course to any golfer.
One additional note - Ewa Beach is directly in the flight path of Honolulu International Airport, so you will contend with the noise of arriving planes.
