Hilton Park Golf Club - The Allander Course
Played On 09/01/2017Allender course review.
First time playing here, saw a great price on teeofftimes.co.uk that suited me and my mate.
Arrived to find the place heaving, it was the Senior open, but not to worry as it has two courses.
The Allender course is great, lovely parkland course, that has open fairways, but hazards for you to take notice off. Bunkers had a healthy depth of sand so played true.
Bar staff friendly at the end of the round.
Wish the course was nearer to home and not 45 minutes away. Will most assuredly be back in the future.
Only 4 stars for the course as it was a tad soggy at some points, but didn't overly detract from play.
Don't pass up playing here!

Local resident and have played here many times over the years. A good set of complex holes fitted into a small footprint. However, don't let this put you off. Simple first, longish second, nice 3rd, awkward 4 due to tree growth on left, 5th is a night mare for me, short par 5 uphill with OB right and tiered green, par 3 6th very short but wow best you can hit a postage stamp! 7th par 4 is getting tricky due again to tree growth, 8th par 4 uphill nothing to worry about and par 3 9th down hill, typically with the wind on your left shoulder so club down.
Condition is very good and work being done to maintain.
Play if you are in the area and have time for either 9 or 18.

Sad to leave a poor review but I am struggling to give any positives. I guess the welcome at the starter box was polite and cheerful, best part of visit.
I live local and wanted a few holes on a Sunday morning, teed off at 10:05 ish and didn't step off the 18th until 2:15. Pace of play awful, it's not even a competition! Over 4 hours is totally c£&p, no excuses.
The course condition, dire. More moss on the fairway than grass. As I mentioned earlier I live local, and know the weather conditions. The heavy shower we had last night cannot explain how sodden the course was. When build / designed they must have used heavy clay, as I can't understand how on a hill that has natural drainage that it can hold so much water. Standing water on the greens, flooded out bunkers, tee boxes and fairways soaked to a rediculous level. They should be considering offering mats to play off to protect the fairway as it was playing like winter golf.
My suggestions to Waterworld, sorry Westerwood, get some gravel and patch up the HUGE pot holes on the pathways, get some investment in soak always to assist in drainage. The only way this course will get better if they manage to improve the drainage, just glad my shoes are waterproof as they were pushed to their limits today.
For a local course I am sorry to say I will not be back.

Played this on my last day of holidays. Having lived within 7 miles of this course for over twenty years I realise it's been a mistake never to have played this course.
Good layout for a parkland course, varied holes of differing complexities, well maintained throughout. Never used the facilities so left that as a 3 star review.
Will defo be back.

£11 for 18 holes on a sunny Sunday, whats not to like. The course was practically empty, until I was held up by a 3 ball over the last three holes. The par 3 6th hole is still I consider one of the hardest holes in Scotland! 135 yards from a hugely elevated tee, steep hill and gorse on the left, water to the right, bunkers surrounding the green, makes me sweat just typing!
Pay it, play and enjoy it!

Nice course, not too challenging but has enough hazards to make life awkward. The biggest hazard and most frustrating thing was the volume of leaves on the fairways. To loose 4 balls on the course due to leaves was infuriating, hence the 3 star review for conditions.
Hi there. I appreciate you taking the time to write a review of our golf course. I'm going to try and answer your points as best as I can:
1. I think you may have been the fourball at 10.12 with 2 buggies? Our tee sheet was completely full on Sunday from 7am with people teeing off every 8 minutes right up until your tee time and thereafter until 1pm with only a couple of tee slots available. This may account for your round taking 4 hours and 3 minutes. I must say however that I would regard this as pretty reasonable for a course that busy and one that is as long as ours.
2. As you allude to, the weather has been particularly bad this 'Summer'. We have actually had over 100ml of rain here this month alone - the wettest August for as long as we can remember frankly. To have the course open and be getting the generally positive comments we receive about the course is testament to the hard work that our green-keepers pride themselves on. Granted, drainage could always be better in inland Scotland, but as an example of our course's ability to cope with the weather, we recently had a very large party come and use our course due to their course (local to us) being shut - they were delighted they could get a game.
3. The paths are an ongoing work. Again, the level of rainfall has a detrimental effect on our paths, much like potholes on our major road networks. We do however constantly strive to improve them.
In summary, I hope we've managed to answer some of your points with sensible commentary and I would happily sit down with you and discuss your concerns over a coffee if you liked. We're always keen to help and hope that we could convince you to return and see if your experience could be improved upon. Please email us direct on westerwoodgolf@qhotels.co.uk if you'd like to take us up on the offer of a chat and a coffee. Thanks again!
