Diamond Hill Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/25/2015Getting Better
I enjoy playing Diamond Hill occasionally. You can tell the new owners are putting money and time into making this course great. I love the layout and that it's a course here in Florida that isn't flat. It's hard to find a course around here with elevation changes. So if you're looking for something different then all the other courses around here, Diamond Hill is a good place for you. A few of the greens still need work but from what I hear, this course was nothing but a pasture 2 years ago. It's in really good shape now compared to then. It will probably take another growing season and winter to get this course in great shape but it is definitely on its way up.
Terrace Hill Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2015Beat Up
This course is beat up. I didn't expect much for $14 but there was a lot of simple stuff that would make it so much better. The tee boxes were longer then the fairways. They were more like rough with weeds growing out pretty high. A lot of the greens had huge brown dead spots, sand traps had knee high weeds around them. The driving range wasn't bad. It was pretty furry too. Overall I won't play here again.
Palmer at Saddlebrook Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 03/05/2015Hoped For A Great Day, Didn't Get One
So the day started out tipping a valet guy for the mandatory valet parking. There was no warm up due to the range being literally on the other side of the resort. When I got to the pro shop they were having to search for carts. My tee time was around 8:30. How are you already out of carts that early in the morning? Got to hole 3 and the wait started. Had a foursome in front of us and they were slow. Told the ranger on hole 6 and he went up and spoke to them. Hole 7 was a par 3 and we pulled up as they were on the tee box. They looked at us and hit anyway. Got to hole 10 and they were on the tee box. One of the ladies started yelling at us that they were waiting on a 2 some. I looked down the 425 yard hole and the 2 some was on the green putting out. They hit their drives about 100 yards. We got to the 10th green and noticed that the ladies were standing around a cart. They decided to take a short cut to save a total of 2 seconds. Their cart was buried in mud. As we came to the 11th tee, she yelled out "you happy now?" Two Rangers showed up and they did absolutely nothing. Just as the ranger who spoke with them the first time, did absolutely nothing. We get to hole 14 and caught the 2 some that was in front of the ladies. The 2 some they were waiting on (only because they waited to tee off until they were putting out and walking off the green). That 2 some was also waiting at the 14th tee box. We were just a 2 some as well so at that point we decided to just go ahead and leave. Finally at hole 17 the course opened back up. We found out the issue was a really really slow 2 some. They had backed up 7-8 groups. There was a 4 some directly behind them that was in the fairway waiting for them to putt out and clear the green. With 2 rangers on the course and $100+ green fee, you'd think they'd know how to clear jams and get play moving along again. Instead we played 13-14 holes in 5 hours. We skipped the rest. After the round I ended up driving all over the resort because there was really no signage leading you back to the cart return. I spent 20 minutes winding through the pool area, the other course, back to the 18th hole to try to start over. I then had to walk about 10 minutes to the hotel/valet area with my golf bag in tow. Once I got to the valet area, it took 15 minutes to get my truck back. It's was a very frustrating/terrible day.
The course flat out was not a $100+ green fee course. I'd say it was probably a $40 course. They charge that much because of the Arnold Palmer name. It is a very short course. Really easy to run it through the fairways. Nothing like being punished by the course after a perfect shot. The greens were extremely slow. At one point my playing partner said putt putt was more realistic to the game of golf then these greens. The beverage cart made its rounds quite frequently. That was nice. What wasn't nice was paying $4.50 for a 12oz canned diet coke. That and a 20 oz bottle of water cost $7.75. Add in tip and that's a $10 bill.
I will not be playing this course again, or the other course at this resort. I also would most definitely NOT recommend this course to any of my friends.
IMG Academy Golf Club
Played On 03/03/2015Good Course, Disappointed In A Few Things
Played IMG Academy for the first time and it was a nice course in good condition. A few of the tee boxes were extremely beat up. They did have guys out there working on them when we were playing so at least they know they need to be worked on. The round of golf, staff etc was very good. The disappointment lies in the Food/Beverage area and the driving range. IMG has GREAT putting and short game areas. They have a set up short game range that allows you to hit 25-30 yard shots into a short game green area. That was very nice. The driving range was terrible though. Very small range. You had to hit off of mats and they expected you to put a tee into the mat (not a white plastic tee that's normally in mats). The issue I had with that is you had to break the tee in half and it only went into the mat about a half inch. So you have a broken tee, pushed into the mat. It's teed up about the proper height for a 3 wood but don't expect to be able to warm up with your driver. There's no way that you can tee the ball up high enough. Range balls did come free with the purchase of a round though. The other issue that I had was the course was full and there was no beverage cart to be found. Their "halfway house" (that's actually on the 13th tee) was closed even though the course was full. That was the only water station that had any ice to refill your water cup. The rest of the water stations on the course just had a warm temp water fountain. The selection of drinks in the club house consisted of about 3 flavors of gatoraide and then beer. No sodas or water.
The reason I was there, to play golf, was great. The other amenities were severely lacking.
The Eagles Golf Club - Forest
Played On 02/26/2015Great Course
Great condition for winter. Great pace. Finished in 3 hours. Saw 2 alligators by the green and tee box. They have 36 holes total so I'm looking forward to playing the other course very soon.
Summerfield Crossings Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2014First Time At Summerfield
I just moved to this area from the panhandle of Florida and I've been trying out some courses in the area. Summer field is very nice for the price, area, etc. most definitely will play again.
Thank you for playing IMG Academy Golf Club. We are fortunate to have loyal members and many outside guests who enjoy playing our golf course. As you noticed, some of our tee complexes are used on an extensive daily basis, and we are investigating enlarging some of our teeing grounds this summer. In regards to the practice tee: When the club was built 36 years ago and the practice tee was put in, at that time I am sure no one thought about building a massive practice tee area. Also, the practice tee is not conducive to producing a grass tee area. After about 3 weeks there wouldn’t be any grass to hit off of, and just think about the complaint we would have then. And as I am sure you recognized, we are land locked with nowhere to expand the practice area.
We apologize for your inconvenience about our halfway house. As for the location, you may get to our halfway house from #5 green and #13 tee.
As for your experience of our drinks, we apologize if you did not venture upstairs to our Grille Room. Up there we have a selection of sodas, water, beer, and tea as well as the option to enjoy lunch with the background of Sarasota Bay. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at
941-758-1466. We appreciate all your insight into your day of golf at IMG Academy Golf Club. We hope you will find another day in your golfing schedule to come visit us again.
