Miami Springs Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/12/2017REALLY FAST GREENS
When my foursome arrived at this course, we were a bit disheartened. We could not find the starter, but she did find us at the first tee. Nothing spectacular about the views and the setting isn't the prettiest. The starter told us that the greens are firm and fast - and she was right.
About half-way through the back nine, we agreed that this turned out better than we thought and we would play it again. The yardage differential between the front and back nines is significant. Really tough long holes. The greens made up for everything.
The Club at Emerald Hills
Played On 03/11/2017EXPENSIVE, BUT WORTH THE DOUGH
This is a really good course. The greens have a lot of undulation and were in pretty good shape. The fairways are nice and it's simply a beautiful track. A nice array of par 3s and when it's windy, you had better adjust. I write this after EH and Mother Nature gave us a good butt-kicking. Really is worth the premium price.
Carolina Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2017REALLY NEEDS SOME TLC
My foursome has been playing here since 2001and we always deemed this to be the best bargain in the Fort Lauderdale area. It still would be if the greens were in better shape. I am hoping that the conditions we had are temporary and will improve. This course is heavily played, but they had better address the issues with the greens.
Plantation Preserve Golf Course
Played On 03/09/2017DON'T PASS UP AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY PLANTATION PRESERVE
My foursome travels each year to the Fort Lauderdale area and we always book a round here. Today's experience reflected the fact that the fariways were like carpet and were firm. The greens were quite healthy. This is a great layout and this course is wonderful. Since this course opened, we have booked a round there and won't change anything in the future. The fairways actually are ingrained with topsoil and are not quite as sandy as other courses in the area. The people who work there are friendly and represent the course well.
Eagle Trace Country Club
Played On 03/08/2017WORTH PLAYING
This course has a nice layout and is highly playable. The greens were very good and my group was welcomed when we played there. Had a very nice post-round meal as well. This wasn't the cheapest place to play, but we felt that it was worth it.
Heron Bay Golf Course
Played On 03/07/2017NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS - BUT STILL PLAYABLE
My foursome has played this course nearly every year since 2001 on our annual trip from Pittsburgh. While this was once a beautiful facility and course when owned by the TPC, it is nowhere near that condition and probably never will be again. I can't understand why so many of the golf carts are starving for maintenance. Near the end of our first nine holes, my partner and I had to push the other cart with ours to get to the turn. That cart's GPS was not operating either and an exchange was made at the turn. The greens really were in good condition and rolled true. The only saving grace was that the cost to play was really cheap. What I would hope for in the future is that someone put the necessary time and money into the facility and try to reestablish it as a top-tier course.
Madison Green Country Club
Played On 03/04/2016PLEASANT SURPRISE
I had booked a tee-time for my foursome thru GolfNow and got a really good deal. There is nothing not to like about this course. The second hole (Par 5) was treacherous and a challenge. The greens were pretty fast and the overall condition of the course for this time of year was really good. We'll play this one again in the future.
West Palm Beach Golf Course
Played On 03/03/2016BARE BONES OUTING
My foursome had played this course about 8 years ago when we flew into WPB airport rather than our typical landing in Fort Lauderdale. We come to Florida for a week about this time of year (March). It is interesting in that there is no water on the course but has massive amounts of sand if you are off the fairway. The starter was a good representative of this municipal course and was helpful and friendly to us. The conditions overall were very good and we would definitely play it again in the future.
It gets a ton of play from the locals but the pace of play was okay. The downside - no real amenities for food or beverage (not even a refreshment cart). Most of the players on this course are pretty old and I guess that they don't want to spend any money for a restaurant or bar.
Delray Beach Golf Club
Played On 03/02/2016REALLY NICE TRACK
My foursome had played this for the first time and enjoyed the course and the reasonable price. Even though we played in SOFLA's dormant season, the greens were really good and the layout was nice.
Hi Denny,
We are so glad to hear you enjoyed Delray Beach and the value we provide! Thank you for coming out to play and we look forward to seeing you back again soon.
Boca Greens Country Club
Played On 03/01/2016OKAY COURSE FOR THE MONEY
This was our opening round for a week-long stay in the Boca Raton area. It was not a demanding course and there are a lot of dogleg-right holes. I only wish that the greens were healthier. While we are playing in the dormant season, the last two greens were perfect while the first 16 holes were a little beat up and perhaps recovering from maintenance of varying stages. I would still recommend this one.
Championship at Hillcrest Golf Club
Played On 2/18/2013Very playable course
This course is moderately priced and has an interesting layout. It is not super-tight but placing the ball is important. This track gets a lot of play and gets beat up a bit by golfers who don't do a good job of fixing ball marks.
The short par 4 finishing hole requires a second shot over water. I have played here a half dozen times and have never manged to hit the green in regulation!
Championship at Hillcrest Golf Club
Played On 2/18/2013Hillcrest is a pretty nice track
My group has played this course quite a few times over the past ten years. We fly in from Pittsburgh every February and spend a week playing golf. This course is a good challenge. The finishing hole is great.
Heron Bay Golf Course
Played On 2/14/2013Greatest challenge
My group has been playing at Heron Bay each year since 2001. At the beginning, it was a TPC course and I swear that I hit 23 sand traps the first time that I played there. I'm not a good golfer, but I learned over the years to be a bit more selective regarding placement of the golf ball.
The TPC sold Heron Bay and the new owners let it slide a bit. Since the current ownership has taken over, the course is in much better shape.
It is a real course - make no mistake about it. If you are allergic to sand, you might not want to play here, but it is really a nice challenge. Generally wide-open and when the wind blows you need to fight through it.
The cost to play there is fair as well.
Pines at Woodmont Country Club
Played On 2/14/2013Pleasant surprise
Having traveled to the Fort Lauderdale each year since 2001, this was the first time we booked a round at Woodmont. This is a great stop because the staff is friendly and helpful, the course was in great condition and the layout was really nice.
I will be booking a tee time there in 2014 for sure.
