Poor service combined with mediocre condition

I keep trying to redevelope a good feeling about this course but I cannot. I was first out this morning and played at a good pace until I reached number 12 where I was forced to wait 5 to 10 minutes hitting into each green while the maintenance worker drive the machine through each bunker. At no point did he stop an waive me up but instead continued until he was done and then moved to the next hole. This continued for 3 holes. Then as I was driving to 17 four foursomes cut in front of me. I went to the clubhouse and found they had shot gunned a group beginning on 17. I had not been told of this when I started. It should be noted that had the groundskeeper let me play through I would have been done before they came out. At that point I gave up and left. Also a few months ago I had multiple cases where I made times on Golf Now and received confirmations only to receive calls that the course had rejected the tee times, once when I was a mile from the course. When I got home after this round I found an email sent 8 minutes before my tee time informing me that the course had not confirmed my time. I guess I was lucky to get 16 holes in. While they seem to be trying to improve the course conditions they do not seem to care much courtesy and service to their customers. Make a time at your own risk.

The still have a ways to go

I have played this course many times going back to when it first opened and I remember when it was in excellent shape. I know that they have had issues in the past with water and it is in better shape than it was a couple of years ago. However the fairways are still marginal and the most of the bunkers were more suitable for mud wrestling than golf. With one exception even the ones that did not have standing water were hard packed dirt.

Bumpy greens and slow pace

Used to play this course 2 or 3 times a month in the late 80s and was always one of my favorites. We teed off right on time however by the 2nd hole we were backed up. We waited on every shot. I felt sorry for the twosome in front of us and kept wondering why the foursome in front of them did not let them through. After a while I realized that the foursome was part of a larger group of about 3 foursomes and they were all slow. A 5 hour round on a Tuesday morning at 9:30 is not reasonable. Also the greens bumpy and slow.

Not very good service. Slow play.

Decided to try a course in the Reno area as I travel there several times a year. It is obvious from the attitude of the employees that the course is primarily for members. We teed off on time however by the second hole we were waiting on every shot. An employee came up and told us they had a tournament an he was going to try to speed them up to keep the round under 5 hours. Just barely made that. The beverage cart showed up as we were coming up the 9th fairway. Told her we would stop at the turn. Stopped at the snack bar and no one was there. After about 5 minutes a woman told us she would be right there. She then proceeds to serve drinks at the bar and chat with the customers while we waited. After another 5 minutes we left. The beverage cart then showed up as we were going up the 18th fairway. Not an enjoyable round. Next trip we will try another course.

Good course poor service

I have played this course from the time it opened and have always liked the layout However while I live less than 5 minutes away I do not play it often. Over the years I have noticed that the attitude of the employees has gotten less friendly. And it is markedly so if you use Golf Now. Most recently the first words out of the person checking me in after I indentified myself was "You are one of the Golf Now people." As usually we arrived early. We went to the starter and were ready to play although about 25 minutes before our time and the tee was open however the starter said there were a couple of groups before us. Just then a person came up to check in and told the starter they were walk ons with no reservation. The starter told them that they could proceed to the tee. After they and a group walking went off, we were allowed to tee off. We then proceeded to play the front nine in approx. 3 hours which is absurd for a 7:08 tee time. We then went to number 10 to find the 2 groups in front of us on the tee. After playing the hole the other twosome with us said they had enough and left. We proceeded on and played 11 and 12. When we got to 13 we could see that the group the starter sent off with no tee time was almost 2 holes behind the group in front of them which was the first group of the day. We decided to skip 13 and 14 and played 15 on in. After we finished and packed up I could see than the slow group was not even on 18. Had we played all 18 we would have been well over 5 hours. Not acceptable for the 4th group of the day on a course.
The course is nice and the price is not too bad for a good course but over priced for 16 holes and poor attitudes.

Course it better but the management is not

My wife and I used to play here 1 or 2 times a week. We prefer a faster pace of play and were willing take early tee times to allow for our under 3 hour rounds when playing as a twosome. Eventually the course conditions got so bad that even the $25 fee was too much. With the recent rains the conditions got better so we decided to try again. When we arrived at the course we were told that the course would not be opened until after our tee time but were told we could go off then if we started on 10. Did so but on 17 found they had put out the tournament shotgun and 2 groups on the tee. Went back to the club house and were told we could go out and jump the tournament groups on one. Played 2 thru 9 and then went back to play 17 and 18 but could not play 1 as groups were now going off. Poor management and customer service. Also first time I have ever lost a ball in a greenside bunker as hit it into right bunker on #7 and when I got there it had over a foot of muddy water in it and could not even see my ball. Not sure why they would accept a tee time when they were not open or why they would put us out when there was no way we could finish 18 even though we played our first 7 holes in 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Not ready for prime time

While the concept of the renovation appears reasonable the execution is poor. Some of the holes appear to have been dropped in to make 18 and others are not what the should be. Number 17 (the old number 8) is a good example. It is supposed to be a par five however the fairway begins at 200 yards from the green. Everything short of this is the mulch ground cover. So if you carry to the fairway on your drive you will be within 200 yards of the green for your second shot. The only reason it would be a par five is if you hit the trees. As noted on some of the other reviews the teeing areas are rock hard. You may have to use your driver as a hammer to get the tee in the ground. Greens range from fair to poor. At this point not what you would expect for a renovated course.

Some good holes

It appears the course is interested in maintaining the pace of play as a card on the cart had time goals for several holes however I was a bit confused as it was set up for a 4.5 hour round. I am old enough to remember when the goal was a 4 hour round but after playing I can see why the extra half hour is allowed. The distance between some of the holes is extreme. Other than that the pace was reasonable. Some of the holes are good but some of them appear to be stuffed in to get the count to 18. We played at a reduced rate of $45 as the greens had recently been punched. The regular price I see on GolfNow I feel to be overpriced even if the greens were good shape.

Overpriced

Played with my wife and daughter as they are both beginners and need to play executive course. Course was not very busy but teed off behind a fivesome consisting of an adult male, a teen aged boy and 3 other boys that appeared to be between 10 and 14. Waited on most holes while they scattered. While we were a threesome our pace was not overly fast. They had the teenager and 2 of the younger boys riding in one cart. Conditions were fair with several swampy areas which is strange during a drought. For the price you can find a tee time at a full sized course in at least as good condition. It is obvious to me that they want you to pay and go and take whatever you find on the course.

Watch out for the 5 somes

Went out to play as a single. The starter offered to let me go off the back which I did. Encountered only 1 foursome and they asked me to play through which I did. When came to the front nine the starter paired me with a twosome and by the time we got to the second hole we started waiting. As we came to the 4th hole the 5 some in front of us was still on the tee and one of them told me that they were waiting on the 5 some in front of them. We could see that the 6th hole ( par 5) was totally open. Not sure why the course allows 5 somes out without telling them they have to let quicker groups through.

Disappointed with the experience

I had a chance to get out and play so I went on Golf Now and found a tee time that met my needs at this course. I arrived at the course, paid at the club house and was told I could go ahead and tee off. A group of very nice ladies let me play through on the second hole and on the eighth hole came up on a foursome on the tee and a single who asked if I wished to join him. I did and on the ninth tee he commented on to back nine being closed and that we would have to play the front nine again. I was a bit shocked as nothing had been mentioned to me about this when I checked in.
At the turn I went to the clubhouse and was advised that yes the back nine was closed. I was asked how I made my time and I told them on Golf Now. I was then told that this situation was supposed to be noted on the site and that they were going to call and make sure that the situation was noted. As I returned to the first tee I noted that even after the time I had spent at the clubhouse there were 2 groups on the hole and at least 1 foursome on the tee in front of us. At that point I advised my playing partner that I would not be continuing. When I got home I went back on the Golf Now site I saw the Aerification warning which I had noted when I made my initial time but nothing about the back nine being closed.
As I noted the staff was friendly however I found the failure to have a sign at the desk noting this course condition and not advising me when I paid was a great failing on the part of the course. They told me when I went back in that I could play all I wanted for the fee however I have had experience with shotgun starts after frost delays and know the delays experienced sorting groups in on the first tee.
I have noted over the last year that more and more courses tend to treat Golf Now customers as second class citizens. I use the service as I never know from one day to the next what my schedule is and the site allows me to see several course times at once rather than checking multiple sites.
I have played this course almost since it opened and I do see that the new ownership has had a positive affect on the conditions, but, while the price I paid was a good deal for 18 holes it was not so good for nine.

Painted fairways

Any green in the fairways is sprayed on. Having played this course several times over the last year it has always been a test but reasonably fair (if you use the GPS to find the hidden burns). However at this point the complete lack of living grass in the fairways transforms difficult into crazy. Any shot coming near the burns or any hazard will roll dozens of yards to find the hazard. After one shot that found a burn I dropped back 20 yards to find a relatively level lie only to have the ball roll all the way back to the hazard. Also the pace of play was terrible. Course was not crowded and we were a foursome following a twosome and a threesome and still waited on every shot. MIght be worth playing for $20 until they bring the fairways back.
