Full of surprises

I booked the round on tee off and was very surprised by the rate. On the most recent reviews, there was no indication that the course is only open for nine holes. The front nine is undergoing some renovation and the back nine is open for play. The rate that was sold to me on tee off was for nine holes but again this was not readily indicated. I drove more than an hour to get to the course only to find out that we could not play. I thought 18 and we could only play nine.

I was going to leave, but Jessica, the clubhouse attendant was very nice to squeeze us in for another nine holes after we finish the first.

The course itself, at least the back nine, is absolutely beautiful. Reese Jones. . He’s a devil where he loves to put the bunkers. We were essentially the only people out there, and it felt like we had this beautiful, resort style course, to ourselves. The beverage cart attendant was very attentive, the clubhouse guys were awesome. The range was awesome.

I definitely want to go back and play the course again when the front line opens up.

Kudos to the staff for making the best out of, what currently is an excellent nine holes of golf.

Definitely will be back at some point.

Shame on tee-off for not placing a warning that only nine holes was open.

Poor amenities

Course was great.

No water on course(fountains were broke), no cart girl ( on a Saturday? ). Temperature was 90+.

Oh and my cart battery ran out (thankfully on 18).

I just expected more for $80 and a venue that hosts pro tournaments.

I can play other tracks in central Florida where you get cool towels, WATER, range balls included, beverage cart service and friendly staff for less than $80.

Golf was great, and challenging, but won’t be driving an hour to play here again.

Excellent weekend

I’ve played this course as part of a state employee package at the resort. We have played the El Campéon course Saturday. For all of the rain we have been getting in Central Florida, the course was in very good shape. The track itself is quite challenging and long. It made you shape your shots off the tee box. Certainly worth the money to play if you could get out there. My only downside, was at the golf Academy at the resort let their players go out interspersed between the paying customers rounds. Some of these teenagers had no golf etiquette and we’re hitting into us although there was a foursome in front of my twosome. About a 4:30 hr round of golf so not bad. Definitely the course was different from the sister course which made for two great days of golf. Also, the restaurant and lodging accommodations were excellent. Definitely would play again.

Florida’s mountain course

We have the pleasure of playing El Campéon in the afternoon. It wasn’t very busy, probably because it was so hot out. The course was excellent. There were rolling hills, old trees, really had to work in shape the ball to hit the fairway. The green complex which were tough, but fair. Just a beautiful course to play. Since there was hardly anybody out there, we were done around three hours. For the $30 fee, certainly I want to come back and play more often. The facilities were excellent with a nice practice area putting green. The staff was extremely friendly. The cart girl came around frequently. I just felt like we were taken care of. After the round, the 19th hole was also very nice. If you live in Florida, this course is quite different than anything else we have with the Rollinghills. Even though the course was a little wet from the recent rains you still fairly good rolls down the hill. Definitely a challenge and a shot makers course. I can’t wait to come back and play again.

“Rough round”

My wife and I booked a tee time here last minute. The golf course was just great. They had recently had some serious rain and the fairways may have rolled a little short on some of the tee balls, but the greens were true and accepting of approach shots. The course has houses around, but it was very quiet and it felt like a real wooded course. Enough water to keep you honest. Fairways moved right and left equally, so you had to plan the approach shots. I loved “the golf course”.

Now for the bad. And it was REAL bad. I had read prior reviews discussing the state of the cart paths and thought “what a bunch of complainers”. Unfortunately they were right. The cart paths are almost not drivable. The large pines have essentially destroyed the cart path to the point it is almost dangerous. With our luck it was cart path only the day we played! We could have played in well under 4 hours, but to navigate the cart path really slowed you down.

If you want a really nice course to “golf” on, this course is a deal. But I have to say I wouldn’t play it again because of the cart paths. And I LIVE for golf.

A must play

Definitely want to play if you’re in Hilton Head or Savannah. The course was manicured and the greens were fast and true. Not a lot of water, but shot shaping will lead you to good scores. The staff was super friendly and the 19th hole was great. The carts had gps. We played in under 4 hours. I definitely recommend this course if your in the area and it should be added to a Hilton Head golf trip.

Getting better

This course has improved significantly over the past year. It has always been a great test of golf, but the course fell on hard times. There has been a revival and my hat is off to the grounds crew. The fairways are significantly improved and the greens although bumpy, were green. The course has houses on some of the holes but most of the course is wooded. There is significant water but smart ball placement helps control he high scores. There are short par 4’s with risk and reward. The cart paths were a little busted up from old trees. Not a lot of amenities as the club house bar is under construction. Water driving range with nice chipping and putting greens. Typically not to busy and I played on Saturday at 11 in under 3 hours. Certainly worth a $25 hot deal. Can be had for $10 in the summer. Will play again.

Getting better

The course is getting a lot of work done. Tee boxes with better turf, new sand in bunkers. Greens were nice, but a little bumpy. I love the challenge of this course. Tight fairways, a lot of punch shots out of the trees and a lot of water on play. You have to hit shots, fade/draw, etc. placement off the tee is key. Staff is always friendly and great restaurant across the street for after the round. The course is worth a hot deal, but it will humble your game if your not playing well.

True greens

This course has 3, 9 hole tracks. It has enough trouble to keep you honest, but wide enough to bomb the driver. The greens are certainly top 3 in Brevard county. They rolled true and held every iron. The staff is great from the proshop to the starter. They had on course beverage cart which seems to be a rarity in Brevard. The 19th hope is top notch. Only downside is it is typically overpriced with the snowbirds down here. But if you can catch a hot deal for less than $30, grab it.

Snow birds are here

My wife and I played on a hot deal at 1020. The course was busy, but the women’s league was having their Ryder cup, and unfortunately for us it was singles, not a faster format. The course is interesting if you have not played it. It is a straight through course with The course not coming back to the clubhouse at nine. You can bring your own drinks and they provide coolers which is kind of cool. Overall, the course was spotty and to be expected this time of year. The greens were OK with occasional bald spots or rough areas. The fairway was decent. Tea boxes were OK. Overall, the course is not very hard, and if you’re along hitter, you should play from the tips. This course is certainly worth a hot deal, but you have to remember that the on course amenities are minimal. The 19th hole was decent and had good food. Also, you may want to call ahead to make sure that there are no Ryder Cup matches going on.

Underrated

This course is highly underrated in my opinion. There are numerous courses around the area which are much wider and easier. They are also more expensive. I like this course, because you actually have to hit golf shots. You are penalized for missing the fairway or green because it's not wide open. It is a tight golf course but you can still score. The course seems to have recovered after the hurricanes. This course is certainly worth a hot deal. There are not a lot of amenities, but the staff is super friendly and accommodating. This course is definitely a good alternative to the more expensive courses in the area if you want to test your golf game.

Great greens

Best, most consistent greens in brevard county period. Course can be overpowered with length, but if you are way off line you will drop shots. For $10-15 on a hot deal, it's hard to beat. Hardly anyone on the course after noon so pace was good.

Hidden gem

First of all, this course was designed by the guy who designed Erin Hill's this year's U.S. Open. I was in town for a conference and was able to play this course two days in a row. I played all three nines. The visual lines on the course were excellent and I thought that it was fair if you hit good shots. Course was in excellent shape. Greens are all true, fairways were cut and lush. The staff was overly friendly and were able to accommodate me as a single. There was no beverage person on the course, but outside of the clubhouse, they had a drive-through outdoor tent which was feasible. My only knock on the course was the water coolers were not always full and it was a hot day. I would definitely play this course again. This is a must play if you are traveling in the Charleston area.

Getting back into shape

The last time the played this course, 20 yrs ago, it was private. It appears it fell onto hard times due to the economy of Titusville. Also I think even the new members are in their 80s.

If you get a chance, this course is really a gem. It requires you to hit shots. If your a big hitter (>250) play the tips. When brevard county starts to get some rain this course will be just fine. Besides the old oaks, it has elevation changes not seen at the newer courses in the viera area.

For $18-20 with range balls this is a steal.

Brevard county is in a severe drought. Most courses that I've played lately, have been dried out and windblown. But not this course. The greens were in great condition and very receptive. The fairways were not overly dry. Pace of play was excellent and as always, this course is very challenging it requires shotmaking as well as distance. This is always been one of the best layouts in Brevard County.

They are going to aerate the greens in the coming weeks. But if we can get some rain, should be top notch again in a few weeks. Will definitely be back.

Multiple teeboxes

There are multiple tee boxes for all levels which makes this course much more enjoyable. Course was in good shape, but greens were still a bit sandy and bumpy. Should be perfect in a few weeks. This is a fair course to play as it doesn't force you to work the ball much. No beverage cart person came around when I pjayed (8am tee time), and it's hot out there! Will definately play again, but only with golf now hot deals.

I played for only $10. I felt the course was definitely worth this. The greens were an excellent shape, but extremely small. The course is not long and if you're a long hitter, you will have to club down on many holes.

Great price

Don't let the road construction on barnes blvd scare you away. This is a gem of a course. Fairways are tight with plenty of water. Greens were in great condition. Was paired with a 3 some who paid $25 per round on golf now. My procrastination paid off, because I paid $15! Lots of pine trees so work on your punch shots. There was a tournament prior to my tee time and another started a few hours into my round. Staff did a great job keeping everyone moving and I finished my round at an even 4 hours.

Good price

This is a great course if you want to get in a quick round of golf. This is not a country club, it is a well-maintained municipal course. Most of the greens were in good shape as were the fairways. This course is not overly long and is quite forgiving. There are many palm trees lining the fairways and greens which add to the challenge. There is also occasionally water. When the winter rates go up, this is my go to course for a reasonably priced around of golf. Always get done under 4 hours!
