Good for the price paid on Golfnow.

Course is about a 1/2 hour north of downtown Las Vegas right across the street from the Aliante casino. Our teetime was 10:55 and we arrived at the casino at 9:00 and had a great breakfast at the casino and got to the golf course at 10:00 planning to hit the range and putting green before the round. The guy at the cart pickup area put our bags on the cart that had our name and teetime on it. He then informed us the range and front nine were closed for maintenance and we would be playing the back nine twice. He then told us we would be first after the Tuesday ladies club all teed off (great). The putting green was open but was useless because of being punched and sanded. Two guys showed up and were added to our twosome, thats what happens with a 2some on Golfnow, we both play to a 10 handicap, one guy shot maybe 95 not counting do overs and mulligans the other guy shot probably 125 and gave up on half of the holes, again that's what you get when you golf out of town. The course itself is totally dormant both fairways and rough. There actually is no rough so if you don't hit perfectly down the middle your ball will roll forever and end up in deep rocky channels. My drive is normally about 225 but was rolling out maybe 50-60 extra yards. The sand in the traps was thin and full of small rocks and pebbles and will damage your wedge, I suggest bringing on older one that you don't care about and save your gamer. The greens had not been punched yet and rolled true and fast. After I adjusted to the speed I actually putted well so compliments on the greens. We actually teed off 10 minutes early at 1045 after the ladies got on the course. I guess they live in the community there, most had their own cart and played so fast that we never caught up to them, great job ladies, sorry for the earlier comment. The staff at the cart area was friendly, the guy at the desk in the pro shop said "Oh you are the Golfnow guys, you are prepaid go see the cart guy" Not mean or rude, just a little attitude us cheap hotdeal guys get at different courses, no big deal, we are used to it. If I didn't get a hotdeal I would not play this course until the turf grows back, maybe by the end of May. I have played it before when it was greened up and it is a fun course that you can shoot a good score on. Just don't play here from late October thru Mid May during the dormant season.

Nice course, fun to play.

Course is about 1/2 hour west of downtown Vegas halfway up the mountains with many fantastic views of the strip. Check in was very quick and efficient in the pro shop with none of the attitude about Hot Deal pricing you get from some places. We had a teetime for 2 at 240 on a Sunday. 3 guys checked in before us and were moving kind of slow and the guy in the pro shop said if we hustle to the first tee we could get in front of them. We got a cart and hustled to the first tee and the starter sent us out. The fairways were in great shape, dark green and looked really nice against the dormant tan colored rough. The greens had recently been punched and dressed but were very playable and held the ball well on pitches and chips. We finished in about 3.5 hours. The course and staff were fantastic. The course is expensive for nonresidents (as most Vegas courses are) so try to get a Hot deal if you can. Will definitely play here again and highly recommend this course.

Nice day at Aliante

First time playing this course just across the street from Aliante Casino in North Las Vegas. Check in was quick and off to the range. Paid $9 for a medium bucket of balls, the range was very nice, grass hitting areas, no mats. Putting green adjacent to range was large and speed of the green matched the greens on the course. Course has 4 different teeing areas and if you play the correct tees for your skill level the course is not that difficult. The fairways were in very good condition slightly firm and gave you a nice run out if you hit the fairway with some nice thick rough to catch your errant tee shots. The greens were very smooth with subtle breaks to them, if you have a down hiller pay attention because the putts can run well by. Sand traps were a little thin, they could use a bit more sand but were playable. The staff from the check in desk, starter and cart guy at the end were all friendly. Got a hot deal for almost half off the non resident rate so that was a huge plus. This course was good enough that I would pay the higher rate to play here. Aliante was a great golfing experience, I highly recommend and plan on playing it again on future trips to Vegas.

Favorite course in Vegas.

I make two or three golf trips to Vegas every year. Always try to play a different course one day and always Chimera the second day. I like to try different courses but to guarantee at least one great round each trip I make sure to go to Chimera. The staff from check-in, starter, restaurant are all very friendly. The course is in perfect shape, challenging holes but very fair if you play the correct tees based on your skill level. Fairways were perfect and greens were smooth and receptive. The price is very fair and they don't give you the "oh you booked on golf now" attitude that some places do. We paid less than half of what we paid the previous day at a high end course in Summerlin and Chimera was so much more enjoyable. I always will try a new course but for sure will make sure Chimera is booked every trip. Nice job by all the staff at Chimera.

Great Course

I have played here several times over the years as well as other courses in the Vegas area on several trips a year and this course always seems the best of the 2 or 3 we play every trip. Fairways and bunkers were in great condition. The greens were a little slower than normal but also in good shape. The carts have very accurate GPS for yardages. The staff from proshop, starter, range were all friendly and helpful. Some courses treat us out of town hot deal guys not very well and you get no sense of that from these guys. I highly recommend this course and will certainly play here again next trip. Well done everyone at Chimera.

Outstanding golf course and staff

Played on Tuesday 11/7 12:02 During Vegas trip played this course as a 2 some. Located just south of Vegas off the 15 a little east of The M casino, very easy drive and no traffic since it is away from the strip.

Bag drop excellent, nice young guy took our bags to our cart which had our name, teetime and course printed on the windshield, nice. Checked in at pro shop about 45 minutes before tee off. Smooth check in, no attitude from the guy at all about our prepaid rate, treated us very well. (Some places don't seem thrilled when you get there on a reduced rate prepaid.)

Starter also very cordial, hooked us up with another 2 some and we went out about 10 minutes before scheduled.

Beautiful course, just over seeded and very lush. Greens were firm and rolled true. Greens are huge, can be a 2 or 3 club difference depending on pin position so pay attention. The round took about 4 1/2 hours but moved along pretty good.

The staff was outstanding, the course was fantastic, really enjoyed it and will be back, thanks for a nice day.

Giving it another chance

Used to play this course 4 or 5 times a month for many years. A couple years ago the conditions deteriorated and it was in bad shape. They blamed the drought but the other area courses seemed to cope with it and theses guys didn't seem to try.

If you went to the other local courses you would see workers trying to maintain the courses but you never saw any body working on this course. New management has taken over and is giving good prices to play the course while hopefully they can get it back on its feet. You now see maintenance workers on the course and with all the rain it is greening up some.

This course to me is the hardest of the local public courses when it is properly maintained, some very long par 4's and no little chip shot par 3's. 3 of the par 5's are reachable in 2 for a decent golfer.

I believe the guys who run Buena Vista have taken over and hopefully they can bring it back to the decent muni course that it was. Have been playing BV and Riverlakes a lot because this place fell apart so much. Still having to "bump" the ball in the fairways a lot to get a good lie and hate doing that but will still play on occasion to help them fund the improvements that I hope they can do.

Hopefully new management can undo the damage and deterioration that was allowed to take place under the old management.

Good deal for what you pay

I look at golf courses a couple different ways, I take into account what I have to pay and time of year factored in. It is winter in California so most public courses will have dormant fairways, mostly brown, I don't complain about it this time of year, it is what it is. Also I go in hoping to get what I paid for. I won't complain about a course I pay 20 or 30 bucks to play as much as I would gripe about paying 75 to 100 to play, I just want value for what I pay.

I play BV 3 or 4 times a month in the winter maybe 6-8 times a month in spring, summer, fall. This is the best of the three county courses in the Bakersfield area. The fairways are in decent shape for the time of year, and the greens are in the same good smooth shape as summer time. I enjoy playing here, most of the greens are bigger than the other public courses and just getting on the green isn't good enough, you can have a lot of very long putts if your wedge play isnt sharp.

3 of the 4 par 3's are very short, 115 up to 145 from the white tees. The first par 3 plays about 170. Bogey is ok on the first one, the green is huge and very fast if you dont stay below the hole, the other 3 are easy pars. Most of the par 4's are long close to over over 400 yards except 13 and 16 which play much shorter.

You have to hit your shots all the way to the greens on the fly, the grass around the greens just kills your ball is you land short, not many lucky holy roller shots here.

Pace of play during the week is very good, I have a lot of 3 to 3.5 hour rounds. On the weekends it is busy and you can expect 4 to 4.5 hour rounds if you play early Saturday or Sunday mornings. I try to go out around 11 or so on weekends and then there arent as many 4somes or 5somes so it moves pretty good.

Snack bar is decent, prices are ok, call ahead from maybe hole 7 or before you start 8 or you will be waiting for your food at the turn and lose your place.

The staff is very nice except for Finn, he can get a little grumpy (just kidding Joe).

In summary BV gives you full value for what you play, it is not a country club condition type course, but there is no better public course in the area and I always enjoy playing it.

Bears Best is outstanding.

A long drive out the course it is on the far west side of the valley close to the mountains. Give yourself a good half hour from downtown or the strip.

Drove up to the bag drop area and a very pleasant guy welcomed us to the course, put our bags on the cart and took them to the range area, also the same guy came to the range and took us to the first tee at our tee time.

Checked in at the clubhouse for a 11:50 tee time, check in was quick, he found my reservation that was prepaid on golf now ($55 hot deal) welcomed us to the course and showed us out to the range.

The range was very large, nice putting green and practice area, made for a nice warm up.

We were a 2 some and they paired us with a couple other guys and it made for a nice pace of play. Every tee box had at least 4 sets of tees and we played from the white.

The fairways were in great shape and the greens were very smooth. The greens weren't too fast, but down hillers will get away from you if you dont pay attention. The sand traps were almost perfect, a little firm which to me is great. A couple greens had black sand which looked really good against the green grass. The rough wasnt too thick and you have to account for fliers. Every hole on the course was in great shape.

Pace of play was good, the round took about 4 hours and 15 minutes. There was a 5 some a couple groups ahead of us holding things up a bit but they were moving as quick as 5 can, so no complaint there.

This is a great golf course with a very pleasant staff and though the weather was a bit cool it was a great winter golf experience.

We got the hot deal at a good price but I would be glad to play at the normal golfnow price which is about $109 during the week. A top notch facility with a wonderful staff, Jack should be quite pleased at how well this place is run since his name is on it. Will be making this a normal stop on our Vegas trips.

Winter Golf at Primm

Third time playing Primm. Played the Desert Course for the second time and have also played the Lakes course, I prefer the desert.

Got a HotDeal on golf now for $28, otherwise it would have been about $60. For the money it was a great deal. The course was in good shape for winter golf, some dormant areas in the fairways and the greens were a little fuzzy but I am used to these conditions it is the same when I play at home.

The fairways are fairly tight so you need to be accurate off the tee or you will be hitting off the rocks in the desert if you can find it. On the third hole a large coyote was staring us down but he moved on, and it was too cold for the snakes to be out, really watch for them when it is warm.

The staff was friendly checking us in but wanted to charge us $10 each to use the range which seems kind of high.

Pace of play was kind of slow and there was only two of us but it seemed like all 5 groups on the golf course were all together on two holes. We caught up to the other groups on the 5th hole and it took almost an hour and 15 minutes to play 6 thru 9. After 9 we jumped back over to number 1 and played the front again to get away from the other groups. Played the front 9 again in about an hour and there was no one on it. Got back to ten and didnt catch back up to the other groups until 17 so not too bad. Tee'd off about 11:30 and finished at 4:15 so it was about a 4:45 round.

We play this course on the way to Vegas to break up the drive. The course is decent, a little better than most muni tracks, but no where near country club level. The price is reasonable for this type of course and we will hit it again on future Vegas trips.

Vegas Golf Trip

Second time playing this course. Paid $40 for a 3:00 tee time saving about $20 or so. This course is located in Henderson, NV about 30 minutes driving from our downtown Vegas hotel.

This course is beautiful with fantastic manicure fairways, I have never played on better. These fairways are as good as most manicured tee boxes, kind of make you feel bad making a divot in them.

The greens seem very firm but hold the ball very nice and roll true. They do seem to break slightly more than it looks like they should, pay attention to the grain.

My only gripe is that the bunkers could use some work, several were very hard with little sand. This could be because of sprinkler run off, but they do need some work to loosen them up a bit. Wonder how hard they are when the summer heat sets in.

The guy in the clubhouse (a glorified mobile home looking structure) was pleasant and got us checked in quickly and directed us to the driving range. (Range balls, cart and green fees included in golf now price, great deal for the price)

The kid at the range set up a cart and later directed us to the first tee. The starter paired us up with a couple local guys, nice guys who played well and were fun to play with.

Started at 3:00 and finished just after 7:00, pace was good for a course that was fairly full.

This is a great course to play if you are visiting Vegas, the golf now price makes it much better. This public course is fun to play and in better shape than most private courses I have played. Will always hit this place when in Vegas.

BV always solid

Course is better than other minis in the area. The greens were good except a couple had been recently punched and sanded. Fairways ok, thin in a few places overall ok for this time of year. Paid $25 on Sunday with gn.com saving $12 off normal weekend rate. For the price it was a very good deal. Tee'd. off 11:00 finished at 2:30. Greens are terrible

I play here often and really like the course, they problem is the greens are terrible. The grass that is on the greens is shaggy, uncut and very slow. The first 3 greens were very slow, but ok. From hole 4, the tough par 5, the greens got worse. A lot of bare dirt spots painted green. A lot of marks on the greens, not punch marks but some kind of slash marks looking like the were made by a machete or something. Hole 18 has no grass at all, just a lot of weeds but mostly painted dirt. They lost the greens last summer and it looks like they have again. The bunkers are all hard pan, no sand at all so forget sand shots, these suck so don't go in them. The fairway are good, rough is pretty tough which I don't mind, just hit the fairways. This is such a nice course with fair prices, too bad they seem to lose the greens every summer.

Greens are disasterous, basically playing on dirt painted green.

Don't know who screwed up but the greens are terrible. Number 3 hole the cool par three, the green is totally shot. It is basically dirt sprayed with some green stuff. The 18th hole is the par five which you carry over the water if you want to get on in two, doesn't even have much of the fake green paint on it, just dirt. The course was almost empty so we played fast. Go to BV or Kern River if you want some greens to putt on, very disappointing at this course.
