Starboard at Harborside International Golf Center
Played On 05/25/2016Definitely one of best courses in Illinois
I really had a fabulous time out at Harborside. Virtually had the course to myself on a Wednesday afternoon. Played in under 3 hours. Course was in impeccable condition. Fairways were extremely lush so despite the dry conditions the course did not play very fast. From the tips this course can play difficult because of its length and bunkering. However, I could still see beginners enjoying the course because of its wide fairways and large relatively flat greens (they rolled very true at about 8-9). Only encountered one bunker that did not have much sand in it. Starters were very friendly. Dorothy in the clubhouse was excellent and kindly moved my tee time back so I could use the complimentary practice facilities which are top notch with attention to detail all the way down to the Harborside logos on the range balls. I'm really baffled that this course is not rated closer to the top of the best courses in Illinois. Harborside is better than Highlands of Elgin, TPC Deere Run, and Cog Hill in my humble opinion.Give it a try and see for yourself.

Kind of a boring course in OK shape. Best feature was the greens with lots of slope. They were slow greens, however. Course plays much shorter than it says on the card. A few water coolers were empty. I did zip around here in around 2.5 hours which was nice.

Wow. This was a real diamond in the rough. Well worth the drive. Staff was crazy good from beginning to end. I felt like a rock star here. Great range and practice area. Thanks for the complimentary balls. The ice cold towels at the start of the round and the turn was a nice touch. Also the scent of strawberry-kiwi in the towels showed great dedication to the details. Lots of drinking water and ice machines throughout the course. Course was in perfect condition through and through. Could not ask for anything more. Not an overly difficult course. Fun to play. Really enjoyed my round. Surprised they are not getting more play. Lots of birds from the preserve. Just a wonderful experience. I went back a few days later because I had such a great experience.

Played this course in about 4.5 hours on a saturday morning. Tough course from the tips. Fairly large fairways but if you miss them you are in trouble. I don't really believe that it plays 7400 yards. Felt more like 7000. Great layout. Interesting course. Challenges a lot of aspects of my game. Complimentary range balls were nice. The drinking water and ice machines interspersed throughout were great. Greens were aerated, but still rolled very true.

Zipped around this course in 2 hours late on a Friday afternoon. Not the most interesting of courses in OK shape. Slow greens. Very soft. #3 is a bit of a joke from the tips--basically forced me to carry my drive 250 or slice an iron 20 yards around trees to the landing area. Not sure what they are thinking with this hole set up. There was little maintenance being done which was nice. I played here for $19 and thought it was an OK deal.

Fun, challenging course. Front side very traditional with lots of trees. Back side lots of water, few trees. Firm, moderately quick greens. Great course conditions, friendly staff. Not a whole lot of people on the course for a weekend.
Old Orchard Country Club
Played On 10/05/2014challenging short course
Short course with narrow fairways. You won't lose your ball if you miss the fairway, but you will likely be blocked by a tree. Greens are well protected by trees from shots not coming from the fairway. I felt like the whole day I was punching out to short of the green when I missed the fairway. The course doesn't really restrict you from using your driver, but its important to hit the fairways.
Greens were fairly firm, fast, and small with decent amount of slope from back to front.

Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Complimentary range balls...thank you very much. Great course design. Excellent conditions. Greens were a little beat up, but still rolled smooth. Very subtle breaks. Deep bunkers with tall grass around them which can catch your ball pretty easy. I drove 50 minutes to play here but it only took me 3 hours to play 18, so I actually saved time.

Played On 09/19/2014placement off the tee is important
Really enjoyed this course. Driver can stay in the bag here most of the day. Many of the holes have water that comes in to play if you hit it over 250 yards. Not a particularly long course. Firm, fast greens. They were a little bumpy but it was late in the day. Firm sand traps, with not a lot of sand, but they're still fair. Definitely have a cart. No driving range on site. Highly recommend.

Great course! Lush zoysia grass. Large smooth greens with subtle slope. Front nine is pretty open with lots of birdie opportunities. Short par 5's and 4's. Back 9 is much more challenging. All about placement off the tee. I only used my driver twice on the back side. You can run your score up pretty quick on the back. Rained a lot the day before, but the course drained well. Incredible value. I even got to see a fox!

Love this track. The strength of the course is in the slopey and speedy, tour quality greens. You really need to think about what side of the hole you want to putt from which makes for a much more interesting and demanding round of golf. The course can play pretty long and has mildly generous fairways. The front nine has quite a number of large trees that can come into play with shots off the fairway while the back is a little more open. The course is a great test of your skills and I highly recommend it.
Village Greens of Woodridge
Played On 07/04/2014Great value
Today, the course was in excellent shape, especially given the recent rains. A few bunkers still had water standing, but overall I was pleased. Two of the 6 or so water coolers were empty. They're usually full. Rough was a thick, but not to the point where you were losing balls. Pace of place was nice. Front 9 in 2 hours, back nine around 1.75 hours. I was expecting a much longer round considering it was July 4th.
For those of you haven't played here, the course is short with large greens with gentle slopes. Lots of doglegged par 4's with bunkers at 250-260 range from the tips. Not much elevation change or water. The course does have quite a number of trees, however there is usually several yards of rough between them and the fairway. You'll never feel claustrophobic. 2, 6, 11, 14, and 18 are the most interesting tee shots.
The bunker renovation on 18 looks great. Makes you consider going for 18 in two while in the past it was always an easy "bomb's away" decision. It has really made 18 into this course's best hole. Not a huge fan of the renovation on 17. The new bunker front right doesn't really come into play unless you hit a terrible first shot; however, it does hide the front right pin location.
I would highly recommend this course for a $20-25 deal.
Island Pointe Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2014Worth the drive from Pigeon Forge
Played here while vacationing in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and really enjoyed it. Very few people out on the course which was nice after playing at two of the courses closer to Gatlinburg that were packed. There weren't a ton of spectacular views with big elevation change, but the course was very interesting and very much a part of the surrounding nature. Quite a lot of water, especially on the par 3s. The 5 par 5's are the birdie holes on this course. The greens were not in good shape because they were aerated two weeks back. I was really impressed by the pro inside. Very friendly and really gave you a blow by blow for the entire course. The complimentary range book was also nice.
Hi mikehenry89,
We are so glad you loved the course! We love that you think the course was nice and range the range balls a great perk.
We hope to see you back soon!
Best Wishes,
