Typical course for the area

Played this course dozens of times over the last decade with my parents because it's next door. It's been in better shape and it's been worse. Every cart has a chunk taken out of the seat where your left leg rests which is odd so you need to take caution it doesn't rip your pants or scratch you. Fairways lack grass right now, greens are playable with only a few spots here and there that need attention. Not worth the price we paid but it was a holiday and usually it's almost half that which is ok for getting out and hitting the ball around. Would love to see the conditions improve to what they once were, it's an enjoyable little layout.

Spectacular layout ...

Passing through Whitney for a few days and google mapped this course. Absolutely perfect fall Saturday weather to play and the course did not disappoint. Spectacular layout requiring precision and decent length off the tee. Tons of water to deal with either off the tee or approaching the green. Greens are not that demanding once you are on them but they were rolling out nicely and can get away from you if you aren't careful. Very receptive to good chips and pitches. Super nice guy in the pro shop, all in all a fantastic day. A top notch course in any big city but a total gem out in the countryside.

Ranger makes all the difference!

One of the nicest courses in the Ocala area and I've played it many times. Bottom line is when rangers are present and doing their job pace of play is acceptable and when they are not you often run into (literally) people who are either clueless of golf etiquette or just plain @$$h0les. Foursome today with no one in sight in front of them backing up groups that tee'd off 30+ minutes behind them (we ran into them on hole 11 and by hole 14 there were 3 groups backed up. By hole 16 there were at least 4). No excuse especially since they appeared to be decent players. The inability to play ready golf, having 3 carts watching and not preparing for their own shots and atrocious pace of play on the greens ruined everyone else's day. Here's a hint, while the three of you are congregating on the edge of the green while the fourth one of you putts instead of standing at your ball being ready to go, take a look back down the fairway and if you see a group ready to approach and three more waiting on the tee box then you're taking too long.

Enjoyable layout, excellent greens.

Had a guy swing open the pro shop door in my face and enter while coughing without even covering his mouth to start the experience.......... but that isn't the courses fault. I do think they should have the hole inserts to keep the ball up in the hole and remove the rakes though. As for the actual golf: range balls included with round - very nice! Tee boxes not in the best shape (very surprising). Fairways a little thin, unsure what's up with 10 & 18 being totally browned out, hopefully they don't lose them. The greens however are outstanding and the bunkers well kept. I've wanted to play this course for years but didn't want to pay as much as they normally charge so I used up a few rewards and checked it out. It does not play long from the tips, I used my driver on only 3 holes but the layout is so enjoyable with water in play on three quarters of the holes and the hazards well placed so that you must still hit good golf shots - or else! With all the choices local residents have in Orlando it's tough to justify their re3gular rate and that's unfortunate because this course is a blast to play.

Nice to see it back in shape!

Played this course since 2012 and have seen it various conditions (foot high rough to bald fairways and greens). Right now it is in the nicest shape I've seen in a loooong time! Fairways have grass, you can find your ball in the second cut and if you hit in the high stuff - well then you've hit a horrible shot and deserve to lose your ball. Greens are rolling nicely, as well as any in the area and the tee boxes are acceptable. The bunkers vary from nice to washed out but this course has many different bunker types so waste bunkers shouldn't be compared to greenside bunkers ... I've played twice in the last week, on the day with nice weather the pace of play was NOT good with 8 groups running into each other on holes 12 & 13 but today with cold weather we had the course to ourselves. Overall this is a definite play right now with it being in good shape and it's unique layout.

Enjoyable course.

First time playing. Front nine is extremely forgiving off the tee. Nice mix of holes with slight elevation changes and large greens. Back nine requires more accuracy off the tee and has nice character. Greens were all lush and receptive with only 2 having some bad spots (both in the back corner - 14 being the worst). While the other greens were lush and rolling smooth and true, they are the slowest I've played by far in the area. That might not be a bad thing depending on your comfort or skill level but you have to give it a pretty good whack to get it to the hole. I teed off in the afternoon with no one behind ... but I ran into a brick wall on 13 and it took as long to finish from there as it did to play the first 13 holes! And mysteriously there appeared numerous groups behind me where there had been none. There were 5 groups on the 18th (putting, hitting approach, waiting to hit second and tee box). Cart attendant says if you tee off in the afternoon this time of year you're screwed :) Other than the pace of play it's a fun little course at a good price.

Glad I checked it out!

I took my Mom out for some Sunday golf. She enjoys playing a course nearby and the reviews here made us give it a try. For a low handicapper this is a nice practice opportunity, I didn't use a tee so I could simulate shots into the green on most of the holes. The scorecard however was consistently shorter than the real distances - sometimes by nearly 20 yards, so I'm glad I had my rangefinder. The greens are really, really small so it does provide quite the challenge. Some of the par 3's are true tests with distances of 190 (hole 8) and 219 (hole 9) although the scorecard plays them at par 4's. I think the longest hole is 16 which is a derivable par 4 at 278 yards BUT remember this is an older community so don't be a jerk and just hit iron/wedge and don't hurt anybody. The greens were in fantastic shape and overall we had a great time. Tom in the pro-shop was super helpful and friendly. A small note to management; if you don't want cars to pull up near the pro shop front door mark it on the pavement or have a sign of some sort. Newcomers just see big parking lot.

In great shape right now ..

Enjoyable day for the most part. Polite, helpful young man behind the desk started things off good. Cart lady attentive numerous times during the round. Course in nice shape with the greens rolling really nice right now. Pace of play was the downfall of the day - just dreadfully slow. Started round at 1:45pm and labored through 13 holes into the dusk. The group in front of us finally called it quits and we blazed through the remaining 5 holes and finished 18 in the dark. The course is tremendously forgiving off the tee, which can be boring sometimes but it also takes the pressure off to allow just a fun afternoon. The outside service kid had a fantastic attitude and gave me a ride back to my car and genuinely seemed interested in my having a good experience. Kudos.

Nice to see it back!

Played the course at its best and at its worst. Glad to see it getting back to being in great shape. Greens are a joy right now - lots of hard work paying off. Drive the ball straight and avoid the trees it a relatively easy enjoyable day of golf. But this course can bite you hard if you aren't careful! A no-brainer if the price is right.

Something for everyone ..

First time playing the course. Saw lots of beginners and a five-some out there but fortunately for me I had the course to myself up until the 14th hole. From the up tees the layout probably is nothing special as far as difficulty. I played the tips which changed the dynamic on some holes dramatically. Hole #3 and #12 should have signage on the tips showing the distance to hazards - driver will put you through the fairway into the hazard. Holes 3-6 are awesome from the tips, especially the par 5 5th which requires a perfectly crushed driver and second. It's a beautiful hole. The 277 yard par 4 8th is a fun hole but please make sure the green (which is blind) is clear. The back nine is a little pedestrian but still enjoyable although a low handicap player won't find it particularly challenging. The 285 yard par 4 17th might seem like a duck but requires a perfect drive if going for it with a carry over high trees near the green. Course conditions were good tee to green. Bunkers damp to wet but no puddles. My big problem with the greens was the consistency. Hole 2 was velcro and hole 3 ran true and smooth. This was the case the whole round ending with the 18th green (which looked like a golf ball with all the unrepaired ball marks) that putted like linoleum. Not sure if that's the norm but it was the only negative of the day. If you avoid the slow players like I did you'll have a nice enjoyable round.

Nice suprise!

First time playing the course. Played from the tips which appears to be a totally different course than the up tees. The driver holes require decent length with accuracy to hit the landing area in the spots required to have a view of the greens. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of the layout, definitely not cookie cutter holes. Back nine starts easy but has a stretch of holes with tremendous character. Between water and narrow fairways you can lose a few balls for sure. Tee to green in playable shape, not perfect but not muddy or bare. Bunkers wet (no puddles) but drying out and nice sand even in the damp spots. Greens has a fair pace, little bumpy and a bare spot here and there. With continued maintenance this course is a gem - most definitely worth adding to the rotation.

Excellent value ...

Reviewed a while ago when it was getting hammered by the rainy weather. Today the grounds crew was out working hard cleaning up the bunkers which were 1000% improved. The greens are in excellent shape, even with maintenance a few weeks ago. I was unhappy that they were sanding the greens immediately in front of me when I teed off but even with the sand the greens are rolling better than almost any comparable course in Orlando (excluding premier resort courses - and even some of them). The rest of the course from tee to green is in good shape with some areas still a bit wet but not drastically. Not sure about that review blasting the course as this is one of the best values in the area. Not an difficult tract if you play from your appropriate distance.

Bombers course .... Spectacular greens

First time playing the course. Most holes are wide open and as long as you could want. From tee to green the course was in ok condition, not great just OK. Very playable but I found myself rolling the ball over a few times from thin spots to get a good lie. I'm sure with the recent weather that's the probable cause and as we get closer to being in season everything will fill in nicely. The greens though .... holy smokes! I play a lot of different courses in Orlando (public and private) and I've played a few different courses the week of and after PGA events and the greens are nothing short of phenomenal right now. Kudos to the staff! If driving 192 to get there wasn't worse than a root canal I'd play here regularly.

Usual excellence ...

Flawless check in, great staff - the usual. Course was cart path only due to rain every day. My playing partner from Texas kept complaining about them "over watering" the fairways :) He got a taste of Florida when the skies opened up at 4pm dropping an inch or two in 30 minutes. Read a review from some guy from Scotland complaining about the bunkers (I lived in Scotland and they have nice courses as well as cow pastures so don't fool yourself) and for all the rain we've had they are in fantastic shape. Greens are recovering from being punched. They are respectable but nowhere near their usual excellence, if you play this course often you'll be slightly disappointed. But that was reflected in the price I paid so the value was still outstanding. Outside staff is top notch, definitely a must play in the Orlando area. Quick note; the course design is rather unique for the area, the greens are all elevated requiring an extra club in. It's annoying to see courses get low reviews from people who didn't take the time to know what they were playing or rating a course low because it doesn't fit your eye or game.

Nice suprise ..

I almost always choose the course I'm playing on reviews so it's important to have recent reviews available. Today was cart path only due to all the rain lately. The bunkers are pretty rough - either under water or just drained but without a ton of grounds crew that would be a tough task to keep on top of. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape (16th fairway was extremely wet) and the rough is thick - they haven't been able to get out and mow with the rain and soft ground. The greens were replaced last year. They are still firm, you'll get a good size bounce so play short of the pin to keep it close. The greens are the jewel though, they are nearly as nice as the Disney courses - rolling smooth, quick and true. Layout not super long (from the black) but requires accuracy with well placed hazards and forced carries. You'll use all you clubs which is a nice change. Jerry in the pro shop was polite and helpful. Definitely worth giving it a try if you haven't before, well worth the price.

Course is in nice shape!

Played a week ago right after the big rains so came back after it dried out a little. Greens a tad slow (except 17 which is perfect) but rolling nicely. The back tee boxes are pretty burnt out but flat, they weren't in play last week. Absolute no brainer with a hot deal !!

Fun round!

Hot, muggy, wet day. Tons of rain has the course saturated but they are doing an excellent job keeping it playable. Cart path only made it a long day and soggy feet. Greens are slow but very playable, fairways and rough in good shape. Tee boxes flat but soggy on some holes. Course layout is very enjoyable from the tips with some challenging holes. Only suggestion is all 4 par 3's played between 195 to 200 from the tips, which is the same shot 4 times. Rather boring. And the bunkers are basically small lakes, but not much you can do I suppose. Will definitely play this course again! *also the staff (pro shop and cart guy) were both polite and friendly.

It's been a while ...

I haven't played this course since 2013, I didn't remember it being this fun! Right now the course is in fantastic condition - especially compared to courses of the same caliber in central Florida. If you get a chance to play this weekend or next week jump on it. One or two greens look like they might develop some problems (15th and a par 3 on the back) but they are rolling smooth and with decent pace at the moment. With all the rain and heat the course really does look good. The gentleman in the Pro shop this morning was incredibly polite and professional (which is such a rarity nowadays), I may just play again tomorrow :)

Nice round ...

Been wanting to try the course for a while now. Went out as a single and had the course to myself for the entire round, so I can't comment on normal pace of play. The front is wide, wide open which may seem boring but you still have to hit good golf shots to score - and you can still lose a ball if you aren't careful. The par 5 7th is a really fun hole (from the tips). The back 9 is their claim to fame and it really is an incredible stretch of holes, requiring some serious golf shots. The course was damp with the rains but fairways were mud free, the greens were a little soft and fuzzy but very playable. With the hot deal price this is a no brainer at the moment. I would definitely play again in the current condition.

Nice afternoon

I've played the course numerous times. A few years ago it was in incredible shape and it's declined since then as have most courses in the area. For the most part though it has been good to fair. Right now the fairways and tee boxes are a little rough but playable (even if you have to roll the ball over once or twice in the fairways). The greens have some bad spots here and there but I'd say 90% of the greens areas are in nice shape, rolling smooth with surprising speed! A few greens are in spectacular condition. If the price is good feel comfortable about heading out to play. Staff has always been friendly and the food is quite good.
