King Ranch Golf Course
Played On 05/04/2015It will be really nice when completed
I played this and found it to be a fun course which is in very good shape. The greens are small to medium sized and crowned. It's a good layout and there are no real surprises out there. It's a shame the back 9 is still under repair. I believe this was from some flooding several years ago.
They say it will be ready later this year but from what I saw I would have to disagree. Looks like a lot of work still needs to be done. Fun course right off I-90 though.
Linda Vista Golf Course
Played On 05/04/2015Okay for a little course
I found it to be a fair course. To play 9 holes took nearly 2 hours, not very good on an executive course. The greens were recently aerated and sanded making putting frustrating and misleading. The fairways were in good shape and the tee boxes were okay. Water coolers would be a nice addition.
Play it if you're looking for an easy round.
Canyon River Golf Club
Played On 05/04/2015Best in Missoula
I found it to be very challenging and enjoyable. It plays in and out of a golf community with great views of Mt. Sentinel. The 4 sided tee box signs posting the yardage was a nice touch so you could see the yardage at any angle. GPS was a plus in the carts.
The greens are tough and undulating but in beautiful shape. Fairways and rough were also looking good. Some tee boxes were chewed up but still fine. Some holes had a decent amount of distance between green and tee box making carts a must.
Definitely play Canyon River if you're Missoula, I feel its a better bargain than The Ranch Club.
University of Montana Golf Course, The
Played On 05/03/2015Time may be limited here
I played right before a big rain storm hit. I found the course to be very basic, trees came in to play from the tee boxes though. It would be nice if the flags were different colors so you knew which part of the green you were hitting to. Saw some wildlife on the course.
The course was rough on the tee boxes but good once you got to the greens. #3 was by far the best hole on the course.
I heard on my trip that the school is looking at closing this course to turn it into something else outdoorsy for the school. That would be a shame.
Nine Hole Regulation at Highland View Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2015Simple 9 hole course
I played here as it was my first course on a week long golf trip. I found the course to be very straight forward and not very difficult. Some trees could get you in trouble but otherwise there were no hazards on the course. Dandelions were everywhere except for the greens, which were sloped and all sizes. Different colored flags would be nice too.
Miles City Town & Country Club
Played On 04/28/2015Check the tee sheet!!
I played here after the course in Baker, MT. I found this to be an enjoyable round and very different from the course I had just played.
I had a mix up in the Pro Shop upon arrival. Juniors were out playing and I was told I'd have to wait for another 2 hours. The day before I had called and was told very abruptly the day was wide open so just come out. After 2 hours of driving this was not what I wanted to hear.
The lady in the Pro Shop was very apologetic and nice to me, unlike the man from the day before. The course was very green and seemed to be in mid season form. No complaints at all about this. I believe every fairway is lined with large trees and there is water and sand on some other holes. The greens are a nice size and very fair. I like this course and would say to play it, but make sure they actually look at their tee sheet a second time before you believe them.
Lakeview Country Club
Played On 04/28/2015A nice little surprise in Baker
I played Lakeview CC as I was the only person on the course for the majority of my round. The staff are all very nice and accommodating. The course has only 9 holes but there are other sets of tees that give you the 18 hole experience. For late April this course was in very good shape. The greens were a little dry and splotchy but the ball rolled true and they were very receptive to approach shots.
The course isn't very difficult but it is a very fun track and I'd recommend it to anybody on the eastern side of the state.
South at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course
Played On 11/26/2014Couldn't pass this opportunity
I played here with 3 other locals who made this round very enjoyable. Their local knowledge really bailed me out of some trouble. We played from the blue tees for time reasons but I would have preferred to hit from the whites since it was my first time here.
As for the prices, you certainly get what you pay for here, no complaints on my part. The views are incredible of course. I just kept it under a 90 so I was really happy.
