Kiskiack Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2017Nice course, just a little tricky for first timer
I enjoyed playing this course. Local knowledge can save several strokes and balls. Must keep ball in the short grass because it may sink into the rough and you can't find it. A challenging course, good layout and nice greens. If you have a hill better drive up and check what you are hitting into. Would play it again if it was closer.
Fort Belvoir Golf Club - Gunston Course
Played On 12/07/2016Very wet, had several plugged landings.
The course was wet due to rain but still playable. First time playing this course caused some positioning problems but you get that on any first round. Pace was great until the last few holes when I caught a slow group and that resulted in getting hit into twice. Greens were a little shaggy and slow at first but turned to normal after a few holes. May have been due to the rain and drainage. Many trees line the holes but still give you a good pathway to the green. All in all I liked this course and may come back in the summertime when they can have pristine conditions. One other thing to remind the general public, this is a Service Base, leave extra time to find your way there, my car GPS kept wanting to take me to the wrong place and once you do find the gate you have to park, go inside, and have a background check done on EACH GOLFER, to get past the gate. I don't know for sure but you may be able to call ahead to get that done. If not it takes about 15 minutes for each golfer to get through the background check. Leave plenty of time or try to take care of that before you go.
Montclair Country Club
Played On 12/01/2016Not bad but not for me
Most of the people I saw playing didn't hit very far which is good on this course. The holes are narrow with houses close to the course. If you are comfortable playing this type of course then it is a good value. If you want open areas to land in, are uncomfortable with housing close by, then this isn't a good course for you. I have been hitting my driver well lately but only felt comfortable using it on two holes. The layout is very interesting with a few hidden dangers, long and narrow par 3s, lots of hills, and trees line most fairways. The greens were true, quick, and even straight putts moved when they shouldn't. For me it would have been a very enjoyable round if the houses were set back farther. I would recommend this course but tell the person why it is not for me, too cramped.
Stonewall Golf Club at Lake Manassas
Played On 11/03/2016SUPER DAY, SUPER STAFF, GREAT COURSE, GREAT PLAYING PARTNER !!!
From the man who greeted me to the desk check in, to the on course personnel, this course is top notch. The greens were a little tricky because they were aerated resently, the fairways let the ball run but you could take the divot to stop approach shots. This course really messes with you concentration because the scenery is so beautiful you are looking at all the beauty and forget to think about the shot. All in all I had a very ENJOYABLE DAY with a VERY NICE RESIDENT WHO SHOWED ME HOW TO PLAY THE COURSE !!
Forest Greens Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2016Have to play again when it has been dry and the greens heal.
Most of the course is in good, just a few bunkers and the greens need help. The greens have been punched recently, are very bumpy and need time to heal. A few traps were full of water and unplayable. These are the two main reasons I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. In time both should improve considerably.
Potomac Shores Golf Club
Played On 10/04/2016Difficult, hidden problems, must find fairway.
The course is very well kept with just a couple of traps that are in poor condition. Rained the day before and they were full of water. First time playing it was a true adventure. There are several holes with blind tee shots that need exact length and/or position that you don't know until it's too late. There are several areas of high weeds that are hidden from view and will eat you ball. Many holes are quite breath taking and you kind off loose you concentration. Your main objective has to be hitting the fairway because the ruff is about a 2 club extra if you can even get it in the air.
Cannon Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/08/2016Not bad for closed for three years.
Course opened three months ago after being closed for three years. Greens are OK but still need more work to be good. Most fairways are OK to good, the bunkers need lots of work but we were told to treat all fairway bunkers as ground under repair, and I can see why. The course layout is the same as before and I really enjoyed playing it again. In time I think it will come back if they continue to make improvements. We played it for a very low price and at that price it was worth it. I would recommend it at that price until they make some major quality changes.
Thank you for your review and noticing all of the improvements we've made!
Stallion Mountain Golf Club
Played On 11/06/2014A must see and play course.
From the time I walked into the golf shop the entire staff couldn't do enough to please me. I got out before my tee time which fit perfectly with my time schedule. The couple I was paired with were very nice and had played the course before and told me the local knowledge information. The course was in great shape and the greens rolled quick and true. I used a rental set of clubs which took me most of the front to be able to hit consistently. Just too much difference between them and mine to be comfortable. A very good golf experience and would recommend it to anyone at these prices.
Goose Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/28/2014Great course, great peop[le, great day, couldn't ask for more.
There are a few blind tee shots but that is the only bad feature of this course. The greens run true, the fairways are well kept, and the rough is manageable. Where the trees line the fairway keep clear of them or just take you punishment even if it is backwards to avoid big numbers. The par threes tend to play long so TAKE THAT EXTRA CLUB. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and sent me out even a little ahead of time. All in all a great day. Would recommend this course at the Golfnow prices.
Westpark Golf Club
Played On 09/24/2014Out dated and plain.
The clubhouse looks old on the outside but inside it is nice but dated. The driving range has mats that needed to be replaced a couple of years ago. They have very thin with little fuzz on them and are several shades from light green to almost white. There are fairways, but standing on most tees you can't tell where the rough ends and the fairway begins. The greens are good, mowed, rolled, and quick. The bunkers need work and the cart paths are in need of a lot of repair. This was not a good experience for me.
South Riding Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2014Rebuilding the traps but rest is worth it.
The traps on the back 9 are GUR and the front will be when back is completed. Otherwise, the course is in good condition. Some water collected in a few fairways and had to be careful not to sink in. Greens were flat and true. Overall, it was a fun time, I want to come back after they fix the traps and the course dries.
Red/White at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club
Played On 04/26/2014Windy, over crowded, and slow
The wind was 25 to 30 mph most of the day and contributed to the slow play. The course had a very big tournament going on all three nines and were about 1.5 to 2 hours behind on tee times. There was very little direction from course employees as to when and who was up on any starting hole. Once we got on the course we found great greens, hilly blind shots, and lots of trees. Many landing areas are over a hill and you MUST go up to see if it is clear to hit. The condition of the course was excellent with trees lining most fairways, some quite tight. For the money it was an excellent buy on a well maintained course that we had the bad luck of trying on a very overbooked and windy day. I'd recommend you call ahead to check availability before booking.
The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 01/13/2014Fun course but really wet from rain over the past few days.
The course had water standing in many places and it was cart path only. As a first timer I got into trouble by not knowing the layout but had a lot of fun trying to recover from those mistakes. The greens were slow but true and the fairways were soft. I know I lost 2 balls because they were plugged and I couldn't find them. I played the Lake and the Road courses and would like to go back in dry weather to try these courses again.
Pleasant Valley Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2013Wet weather made it cart path only and a very sloppy round.
It rained the day before and there were puddles everywhere. Pace of play was very slow because of plugged balls and the 20 to 40 mph winds. It was cart path only because it was so wet. Nice course, good layout, and many challenging holes made the round difficult. The greens were true and quick for the weather conditions. The wind was a problem all day. When I finished I was glad it was over but I want to go back in the summer, on a nice day, with no wind to try this again. I may not be able to play it in the 70's but I want a chance to play my handicap of 14.
Somerset Farms Golf Course
Played On 11/14/2013This course has some interesting holes.
The nines have been switch since it was Summerset, so if you have a GPS start on #10 which is #1. The greens are some of the best I have seen, very true and quicker than most. The fairways are well defined and will be nice in the summer. There are some hidden hazards (tall grass and bunkers) if you hit the ball in the wrong place which cost me strokes. There are too many short par 4's for my liking but the longer par 4's are challenging. This is a good buy for the Golfnow special price and I would recommend it for that price.
Augustine Golf Club
Played On 10/09/2013They are working on it.
The layout is good but the work they are doing made playing a little problem. They have spread sand over most of the fairways and all of the greens, enough so that you need to clean you club after every shot, even between puts. The uneven spread of sand on the greens make a true role and speed on each green and between greens vary greatly. The price was OK for this course but I wouldn't pay even close to their normal price per round. I would recommend this course but only for the discount rate.
Brambleton Regional Park Golf Course
Played On 9/6/2013Very good condition but no marshall the first 13 holes.
I enjoyed this round but pace of play was very slow due to one group for the first 13 holes. At one point on a par 5 the slow group was hitting their 2nd shot on the fairway,, a single was on the forward tee, our threesome on the back tee and the next foursome on the cart path waiting by us. That was what I call slow play. As soon as we complained to a course employee someone came out and got the problem solved. This problem was one group but did not ruin the experience because of course conditions and the other members of my group.
Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club
Played On 7/30/2013This is a great course with more level changes than I could count.
It starts with the 1st hole, you can't see the green from the tee. You also don't see the lake next to the green and the big left slopping hill that will take your ball straight down to that lake. It is more of the same through the front nine and it is a little more open on the back. I have to say that the starter told me all about the front nine before I left the clubhouse so it really wasn't a surprise. After playing this course once, if I, no when I , come back I will play several holes completely different.
Rock Harbor Golf Course - Rock
Played On 7/11/2013Excellant shappe, great views, but slow play.
Overall I really liked this whole setup and am glad the people I played with had played this course before. With 2 courses mixed together it was hard to find the next tee many times. The front 9 is a great golf challenge but the back almost makes you feel there should be a windmill on the green to put through or a long tunnel to hit through. Maybe it was that we caught the group ahead of us on hole 8 and had to wait on every shot the rest of the way. The group ahead was a 4 some and we were only a 3 some but on most holes the 2 some behind us was standing on the tee with us while we waited to play. Several holes the third group was approaching the tee as we pulled away. A ranger would have been a benefit to keep things moving.
Locust Hills Golf Course
Played On 7/10/2013Accuracy is what you need both in direction and distance.
This is a very nice golf course but I am glad the people I played with had played it before. They helped me to stay out of trouble several times just by telling me where to hit it and where to avoid. There are a number of places that, if you don't know the course, you could put yourself in serious trouble hitting where you think would be good on the first sight. Here you need the correct direction and distance to avoid some serious problems. The length of time did not include the rain delay of about 45 minutes.
Thank you for the review. The course is in wonderful shape with greens fully recovered, and all bunkers manicured since last round of thunderstorms. We look forward to seeing you soon.
