Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links - Water 9
Played On 07/27/2019Nice track but quit letting people off the back
First off, the course is in really nice condition. Layout is great with some shorter and longer holes mixed in. Definitely a risk reward type course. Greens are impeccable.
This is one of the only courses around that opens prior 7:00. I prefer to play as a single and always book the first tee time get done quickly before the rush starts. They typically charge around $40 to play the normal rotation or around $30 to play their back nine and shorter 9 hole track.
I grouped up with another single on the first tee. We played the front in about an hour and 15 minutes. We make the turn and they apparently let people off the back as their front nine to their other rotation.
This log jams the course and it ended up taking us over 2.5 hrs to play the back. Every shot we had to stand and wait a good 5-7 minutes. Nothing deflates a round and your groove more than slow play. I get it, courses need revenue but structure it to not penalize the people who paid the extra $10 to play the normal 18 hole rotation.
Raintree Country Club
Played On 08/30/2019Where’s the Ranger ??????
Tee time was at 12:20 and just walked off the course at 5:40. Unacceptable for a Friday. No ranger to be found. A 5 some 2 groups ahead of us was the culprit. This used to be my favorite course but the drainage and pace of play will drive me to another course
Arrowhead Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2019Conditions are the best I’ve seen them
I’ve been playing Arrowhead for about 6-7 years now. I really like the layout as you have a good mix of open and tight holes that makes you think about club and shot selection.
My normal knock on this course is the conditions. Typically over run with weeds and the greens are usually in poor shape.
While not perfect the course is improving. This is the first time I’ve seen the number 4 green without half of it being burned out or with a disease.
Fairways were tightly mowed and you could distinguish itself from the rough.
My only gripe was slow play. I grouped up with an older couple. All 3 of us played very fast. We caught a 2 some early in the round and they wouldn’t waive us ahead. We would have had no problems playing in 2.5-3 hrs but the 2 some held us back causing it to be a 4hr round. I don’t mind 4 hr rounds when the course is slammed on a weekend but the course was relatively dead at this time.
Chenoweth Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2017Always in my rotation
I play Chenny often and always enjoy my round. Great value and they maintain it very well. However the GolfNow time I booked this day was immediately after an outing. Had no clue otherwise I would have went elsewhere.
So to play 9 holes it took my brother and I approx 3 hours. We arrived approx 15 min before our tee time and were on the box promptly. We tee'd off about 10 min past because of an outing in front of us.
On the 3rd hole, the 4-some in front of us decided to group up with the team in front of them so now you had 9 guys playing the hole. I am not one to strictly police course play but this is one of those times where a marshall would have been helpful. I thought about calling it in but didn't want to be that guy because nobody else was behind us waiting so the outing would have known it was me who called in it.
It would do their patrons good if the course would wait to offer Golfnow times perhaps at least 30 minutes to an hour after an outing goes off. You know its going to be a slow day.
They should have let us go off the back but the guy said no because somebody was a hole or two from finishing the front.
Chippewa Golf Club
Played On 04/01/2016Keep it together through the Bermuda Triangle and you can score well here !!
Had a chance to play Chippewa Friday 4/1/16. Conditions for early April are to be expected especially for our rainy season. The course had no standing water and in overall pretty darn good shape for the time of year. I was very surprised by the conditions of the greens. Normally courses around here still have punch marks in them from fall aeration. These were in tremendous shape and the ball was rolling very nicely.
What I like about this course is the mix of both long and short holes and the par fives offer generous landing areas so you can unleash with the driver. Just enough sand to make approaches tricky and a decent amount of elevation change, especially on 14, 15 and 16 which most refer to as the Bermuda Triangle which are the #1, 3 and 5 handicap holes. This 3 hole stretch will test even the best golfers. I've often heard these 3 holes referred to as "circus golf" but I feel they are fair you just have to be on your game and hit two quality shots on each hole.
Chenoweth Golf Course
Played On 09/04/2015Convenient location; Nice shape, Shorter Course but always fun.
Played on a Friday afternoon after some heavy rain. Course was wet, 90* rule in effect but balls were not plugging. I enjoy playing here. Not a long hitter (220-245) so playing from the whites is a good yardage got me. Course was well maintained and greens rolling nice and true. It's nice to play on a bomb and gouge course but also nice to play a shorter more position shot oriented course like this one as well. Better bring your 185-210 yd straight shot off the teebox here otherwise it can bite you.
Some nice elevation changes on 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 17 and 18.
Nice finishing holes over the water on 9 and 18
The Sanctuary Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2015One of the only courses in the area to feature 5 sets of tees
Played on a Friday around noon. We arrived at the course and the lady at the counter said we would be paired up. Not a problem. However they said they were behind about 7 minutes. Not a huge deal. Pace of play was on the slower side. I expect to finish a round no matter what in under 4 hours especially on a Friday. We finished just shy of 4 and a half hours. Could never really get into a flow of the round when you have to wait on every shot.
As for the course, I really enjoy playing here because they offer 5 sets of tee boxes and the black tees offer the perfect yardage for my game (around 6100 yds). These tees make it tough though because on the back 9 the tee shot requires about 200 and 230 yds respectively on a couple holes due to a small creek that runs across the fairway. I like the challenge because I have to choose my tee box club accordingly.
Its been extremely dry but you could tell they water immensely as the ground was soft even at 4pm. Very easy to hold greens and even using a non urethane ball I was able to hold greens and even back a few up which never happens for me
Arrowhead Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2015Nice layout, but needs some weed killer
I first played Arrowhead last year. I really like the course layout and also prefer the white tees around the 6000 yd range which is a perfect length for me. They hit the nail on the head here right around 6000-6100 yds with a couple short par 4's (300) and a couple around 400. The Par 3's are challenging (a few were 165-200 yd range from the whites). Course has some decent elevation changes.
The staff was friendly and the course was not busy at all so as a single player this is appealing as I was finished with 18 in around 2.5 hours early on Monday morning. Two major let downs though. The cart paths and weeds. The cart path was bad especially leaving hole #1 it was nearly undriveable. Once the paving started it improved. Also the weeds were pretty bad. It was dandelion city out there.
I never saw this place when it was a country club, but it probably looked spectacular.
Hey "erock717" thank you so much for the 5* review! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the layout of the course as well as the condition of the greens. See you again soon!
