About

If I could hit half the shots on the course that I can hit on the range, I'd be pretty good. As it is, I'm almost comically inconsistent. I can shoot mid-70s one day, and high-90s the next on the same course. Oh, and I cannot stop myself from swinging too hard. All the time.

What dreams are made of

Walk out the back door of the Slieve Donard Resort, across the parking lot, and under the sign for Royal County Down Golf Club, and you feel like you're entering a golf storybook. The dunes, the seascapes, the town in the distance are all magical -- not a thing out of place. This is easily one of the top 5 courses I have played anywhere in the world. Get a caddie to help you find your golf balls -- for many could be lost here (though i actually didn't lose a one, despite my poor play). Don't try to card a career score; just bask in the dream until you wake up after putting out on the 18th.

Royal Portrush is Open-worthy

The Dunluce Links feel larger and longer than the 7,143 yards written on the scorecard. It's all marram grass and dunes, all big drives and wicked putts -- a veritable amusement park of golf. After you finish your round, head inside and marvel at the scorecard of the course record holder, a 16-year-old Rory McIlroy, whose score of 61 seems nothing short of superhuman. Enjoy the views of the coast from the 5th green, and be ready to hit some big drives if you're going to reach some of the par 4s in two. A must-play!
