Mendip Golf Club - Mendip Course
Played On 06/30/2023Countryside Course in great nick
We have played this course a few times but not so much recently as it's a bit of a drive from where we live. However, the course was in as good a nick as I can remember, with the green very true if not especially fast.
The shop and members were very friendly, letting us (a two ball) through on the first tee and then playing through a three ball a few holes later. this meant that we completed the round in around 3.5 hours.
The course has some great (mainly par 4 ) holes and superb view over the Mendips and Glastonbury tour.
We didn't have time to hang around for refreshments after but there is a good looking driving range and putting facilities on site.
Chipping Sodbury Golf Club - Beaufort Course
Played On 09/05/2019Nice Course. Long
I don't get to play CS too often as it is normally a bit more expensive than its rivals but I always enjoy it when I do.
This was no different. Late pm in September it was in good nick, with few other players around. There's a bit of water and plenty of trees, so it's a fair challenge.
It is also quite long. My partner advised that it is longer than The Brabazon (presumably not the Ryder Cup Tees), which he had just played, according to his GPS.
So give yourself enough time and make sure you are feeling fit. But it's relatively flat, so a lot to enjoy.
Shirehampton Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2019Decent Course Hole in One
I always enjoy Shirehampton. Yes it's not the longest and the lay out maybe a bit confusing to new comers but that's because it's an old course and no worse for it.
This round was great value (under £20 for a Saturday pm), very few other people around and my partner got a hole in one on the 6th, so bought all of 4 people a drink in the friendly bar afterwards!
Filton Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2017Great value Friday round
I have played Filton many times and it rarely disappoints. The holes are varied, with a few crackers (the drop hole 3rd and long par 5 14th being 2 favourites). £16 is excellent value for a course which is normally in good nick. This time the wet weather meant the greens were slower than usual, but they were still flat and fair. We were a four ball setting off at 10.30am and apart from letting a 2ball through, we didn't encounter any other groups. We had a nice beer (Doom Bar) and burger in the friendly club house after.
