Interesting layout

This course re-worked their back nine a few years ago to bring an old quarry into the layout to change a traditional Florida design. It's located on the outskirts of Brooksville so there is more elevation changes than the regular Florida terrain. The course conditions are not great, thin fairways and some greens in need of healing, but playable.Since it's been pretty dry the past couple of months hopefully the summer rains will bring needed rain so growing conditions will improve. Most fairways are tree lined with well placed fairway bunkers.Greens are contoured and many approach shots are slightly uphill. There are 2 par 4 quarry holes where placement tee shots are the prudent approach but if you're feeling lucky then let it rip.The signature hole is regarded as the par 4 12th,one of the newer holes but the par 3 17th is a short 30-40 ft.downhill with water in the front and a big hill and nowhere to play from directly behind the fringe and nowhere to bail out left or right. If you book and not familiar with the area map it as its off the main roads in a nice community.

Fantastic layout

Always a pleasure playing this course.Other than greens being on the slow side, conditions are great.Although courses are not as full as normal a ranger was needed with players playing slowly and from wrong tees.

Nice layout, needs improvement on the greens

Not an overly long course but can play longer as many holes have uphill approach shots. This course was closed for a while and conditions are taking longer to repair damaged areas. The greens were the most need in repair but that was only be a handful, the fairways were a little thin and the rough was nonexistent as due to when they were closed these areas were not taken care of and now there is many bare lies. The front 9 is pretty wide open and the back narrows up as you head to the finish. The owners are trying not only with course conditions but activities in and around the club.Reasonable green fees.A variety of tees for all abilities and ages.

Nice course but bad drainage

A fair course just in a low lying area of west Florida so always wet fairways. There hasn't been much rain lately but the course is in an area where water is all around. With soggy fairways course plays a little longer and solid contact on approach and chip shots is crucial.Greens are mostly in good shape,a few need work, but run good with quick speed. Not a hard course, length isn't a factor but many holes placement is more important.

Excellent variation of holes

This is an excellent course with water, elevation changes and a mixture go for it and play for position. The second hole, their signature hole,is a tight driving hole with carry on tee and approach shots. This is a great hole, more suited to be a closing hole,a little difficult early in the round. The greens were in excellent shape and very fast running. The only reason the condition rating wasn't 5 star were the conditions of the tee boxes.Hole locations can be penal with the speed of the greens. In a nice community but in a very congested area of Seminole county,so if you're travelling to play a weekend tee time{or early morning} might be better to avoid traffic.

Great layout

When playing this course you start out with 3 average looking holes but then you start on a great design of short to long length holes.Actually the first hole is designed along a tributary to the inter-coastal waterway and it is a nice scenic opening hole. The first 4 holes are off to themselves, the 4th being a short par 4 dog-leg where tee shot placement is crucial. Then you head over to another short par 4 that can be driven and then play two more dogleg par 4's and a par 3 and 5 on the front. The back nine winds more around the local community with a few more water hazards than the front. All the greens are multi-tiered with multiple pin locations. This was the second time playing and found this course so well conditioned and a great layout I had to make sure I played here again this year on my vacation before it was cut short by Hurricane Dorian. This is a city run course so the prices aren't too high for a course you would think charge alot more. It's about a mile off I-95 so it's not hard to find if in Daytona.

Nice layout

This is a very nice course, hilly with large greens.Played with a local resident and he said the course has come back from poor conditions. The fairways were great, the layout goes around a residential development and the nice part about that is the houses are set back and don't intrude on the course, and the greens are nice. They have a very big range and practice area(I think it might be open late as there are lights around it).A good variety of holes and you'll use many of the clubs in the bag.Not hard to get to,but you would never think there would be a course in the area until you come upon it.I highly recommend this course and the prices are fair even if you don't get it on a Hot Deal.

Nice layout,needs lots of work

This is the same as every area of Florida.A course built to accompany a a planned community and either the expected membership and play did not meet expectations or the developer pulled out when everything was built. The layout is tough, long and expansive greens. The problem is the course fell into lack of upkeep and now the new management has to almost start from scratch to get it back to good conditions.First I'll start with positives-good fairways,a dedicated effort to restore bunkers and greens and the effort to have staff to on hand(cart girl, grill staff and excellent cart barn help). Now the bad-too much goose grass, deteriorated cart paths and approaches and the apparent lack of help on grounds staff to cut rough and outlying ares around the course.I asked the starter for pin locations and he said shoot for middle of green, little was he smart enough to know locations this day were front, back, middle.A few of the holes were along busy roads and some holes along neglected housing but that goes along once the course gets neglected so do the areas around course. The price was right through Golfnow and in a week or two the greens should be completely healed from the punching, need another top dressing due to heavy rains recently.Hopefully management sees the poor reviews and understand what more needs to be done to bring course back.Good luck

Surprising lay-out

I do not mean that this is a tricked up course,I mean it is surprising to see a course of this design, over close to the ocean. This course reminds me of one you would see in the rolling hills of the western side of the state.Large greens and wide fairways define this course with as compared to courses in this area where water is more prevalent.Play this course especially with the Golfnow rates.

Nice shorter course

Although this course is less than 6000 yds.and the slope and rating is considered low, there is a challenge as club selection and water make this a fun course.Conditions are good and their practice area is well kept.

Average course with poor conditions

When this course opened it had great potential but over the years and constant turn over of maintenance groups it is not very good especially after all the snowbirds go back up north. Many of the greens have fungus invading the putting surfaces, lack of upkeep in rough areas and around bunkers make for poor lies.Fairways, approaches and bunkers are not bad.Hopefully the owner will see that better upkeep for us of those living here all year would get more play with better conditions.

picturesque course

This is a municipal facility with a confusing layout. There are 3 nines that crossover each other so you really have to pay attention to the signs pointing you to your next hole(although those can be deceiving). The conditions are alright but what you might expect at a municipal, bad traps poor drainage but greens are good tees are ok.The reason I give this a poor review is the staff Pro shop attendant no greeting just what do you want..The starter was rude barking at me because I didn't know my cart#,shouting to where to go.Played with another single on front then paired with another twosome on back. Then when we turn we're stuck behind his buddies playing the wrong tees and playing slower than turtles. This course would probably be better played in the summer as it seems it gets plenty of play but with shorter par 4's in the peak season there will be lots of waiting especially if the starters friends are clogging up the course. There are better courses in the area with better prices.

Well maintained course

This is a very nice course in an area that is booming with new communities.I first played this course before the development started but the housing doesn't effect play.It is not an overly difficult course ,water comes into play on 4 or 5 holes ,many of the par 4's are doglegs and the par 3's are not long. The one thing that could be better is faster greens .The grounds crew are friendly so maybe the pro shop staff and started should learn customer service from them.Pace of play was not bad but there were no pairing of singles or twosomes and no ranger to speed up the slow groups.Still worth a place to play, especially with a Hot Deal round.

Getting better

Played here a couple of years ago and although conditions haven't improved to the point of making this a must play, they are trying to improve it.Fairways are rough, bunkers are ok and greens are slow. For the money if you get it day of play you can't go wrong at $10.It's a good place to work on improving your concentration for different lies. And the front nine is a fun group of holes where club selection and daring keeps you on your toes. The back 9 is links style with a mixture of easy and tough holes.Give them a chance for the price.

average course with small greens

this was an average course with extremely small greens.there is nothing special about this course,no standout holes, bunkers were in poor condition and not very concerned with over booking or getting play moving.this course is in an area with many near-by courses so it's not a must play.best bet if you do play this course, don't play it in the afternoon because leaving this community at afternoon rush hour is brutal

A MUST

Without a doubt this is a must play.I git this course for $25-A STEAL.The greens and fairways are just great.Right now the Jones course greens are being redone,so the Hills course is the course you play, which is fine with me.This course is on the other side of the property with fewer houses and more open spaces. To me it is by far the better of the two with you staying on that side and never coming back to the clubhouse until you're done. There is a halfway house but it might not be open in the summer season, but there is cart service.Play this course, not overly hard if you pick the correct tees.

Good course falling into disrepair

I have played this course for 30 years back to when this was the home of the LPGA.I had heard this course had was in bad shape after the LPGA left, but found it in great shape 3 yrs.ago I returned to play it in 2015 and 2016 and still found it a good test.Sadly to say conditions have taken a turn for the worse as the greens have become infested with weeds and bare spots. The putting surfaces are now bumpy. The fairways and bunkers are still ok.Hopefully they will turn things around but this was the only course I played over holiday weekend that I would not recommend. This is not the review I wanted to post,as this is a great course, but now I say beware.

Nice course but wet

This course was cart path only so you might as well say I walked. The weather was good but it had rained constantly for 3 to 4 days I played so any course was going to be wet anywhere in west central Florida. The front nine is easier than the back so that is why I say it was moderate in difficulty. The signature hole is the best on the course. The only thing I would say if you do play it cart path only make sure you find the paths on the two holes where there the path ends after the tees and begins again down the fairway or they will send the cart path cop out to yell.
