Cacapon Resort State Park
Played On 08/14/2018Greens Like Putting on Velcro; Could have done 90 degrees on fairways
I will not be back. Have played here numerous times but it was cart path only (yes we have had a lot of rain but you could have done 90 degrees; especially with all the marshals). Greens were horrificly slow - like putting on velcro. Almost like they are scared they might lose the greens due to the heat/humidity. Fairways were in horrible shape. You can go 10 minutes farther and play Whitetail for $36 - faster greens & in much better condition. This is an excellent layout but to not cut the greens to a decent speed is not acceptable.
Whitetail Golf Resort

If you are a senior (55+) the deal is $36 with cart Monday - Friday. This course is in excellent shape. Front nine is a little hilly and back nine goes up the mountain. If this course was in Northern Virginia you could easily charge $85 green fee. Had not played it in about 8 years but I will definitely be back with some of my friends.
1757 Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2018Short Course But Excellent Conditions
1st time playing and I will be back. Had some members play with me which was a huge help. Lots of water but if you hit a straight tee ball you can score well. Greens were like all the greens in Northern VA (idiots don't fix their ball marks). Fairways were excellent and greens rolled well despite the ball marks. Starters were very helpful. Pace of play was excellent - done in 3.5 hours.
Glade Valley Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2018Great Layout but No Marshals; Pace of Play Horrendous
Took our threesome 4.5 hours to play 18 holes. Waited on every shot. Group in front of us had at least two holes in front of them. Why are there no marshals on the course on a Friday. Will come back but will mention the pace of play when I check in.
Kiskiack Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2017Great Course & Layout But Tell Us the Greens Had Been Punched
Great layout and the conditions were excellent (fairways pristine) except the greens had been punched the same day I played. Called a few days prior about getting on and they said no problem that the course was in great shape - no mention of the greens getting punched. Showed up the day of play and the lady behind the counter said the course was in great shape - no mention of the greens being punched. Even the starter, who was very nice, did not mention the greens had been punched.
Common courtesy is to let people know if the greens have been punched and offer a discount. I'll probably play other courses around Williamsburg before I come back to Kiskiack.
Westpark Golf Club
Played On 07/15/2017Diamond in the Rough if Management Would Put $$ Into It
Have played this course since the 1970s and have seen it go through all sorts of changes. Upper management did the right thing in removing the Westpark Manager earlier this year who let the course be neglected instead of hiring more maintenance staff. If management puts some $$ into this course and cleaned out all the underbrush in the creek beds, this course would get more play. The creeks on this course are a big selling point but you can't see most of them due to the underbrush that was allowed to grow the last several years. Would be nice if the greens were updated to their original size but that would be more $$$. Not saying this could rival Raspberry but if you clean out all the underbrush in the creek beds, I bet you could gain some players from Brambleton, Algonkian and others. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising.
Cypress Point Country Club

Course is a nice layout although some of the homes are too close for wayward tee shots. Fairways & bunkers were in great shape. However, the greens had not been cut which surprised me. Maybe they don't cut the greens on Mondays? Or if they did cut the greens then they were very slow. Would give it 5 stars had greens been cut.
Goose Creek Golf Club
Played On 8/18/2013Course in great shape; but lots of "Fore's"
Course is in great shape with bent grass fairways. Wish greens could be a little larger. 4some completed round in 4hr 15 min on a Sunday afternoon. Rumor is developer of Village at Leesburg, Kettler Inc., has bought the course and will transform into Hotels and shops. Whether the course will remain is the big question. Drawback is a lot of back and forth fairways so beware of errant golf shots.
