Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 10/12/2020Unrealized potential
This course has really got an awesome layout. The par 5’s are truly challenging and holes 10 thru 15 are the heart of this course. That being said this course needs a great deal of TLC. Bare spots in the fairways thruout the course, sand traps that have little or rock hard sand. Pot holes are standard fare on just about every hole. I’m pretty sure the club has a private element to it, to bad they don’ t want to put some dough in the pot to get it up to snuff. Could be a real gem....

Played On 10/05/2020Prior To overseeding....
Course is in OK shape but surprised to see the amount of quack grass that has invaded the course given that it sells private memberships. Wouldn’t think the members enjoy putting up with that. They also seem to have what I believe is a misguided policy of turning away business (players) if you are not a twosome or foursome because they want two people to a cart. Just does not come across as a solid business practice......
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 10/01/2020Course in good condition BUT...
Our fee included a cart, not available when we arrived. We finally got one but it was about 25 minutes past our designated tee time. The pace of play was very slow for a weekday round. It picked up mid round but again slowed to a crawl towards the end of the round. Between nines went to get ice at the machine, it was nonfunctional, could have used some since it was warmer then usual.
One item that works in their favor is they have new carts set up with Bluetooth, so if you have a smartphone you have gps yardages and music if you care about that....

Played On 09/11/2020Course in decent enough shape...
considering it is just prior to overseeding. The one thing they need to do is change the filter at their 9 hole water station. Not sure if it is either the ice machine or water spigot but the water coming you get from there is simply raunchy tasting.....
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/01/2020It is what it is...
Considering in a month or so the scalping begins for overseeding. Greens were running just fine, traps were in good shape. Tees and fairways were so so. I managed to leave a lot of birdies out there for the next guy.....!!!
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2020Tee off yardages...
This course is in typical summer condition, spotty tees and fairways, decent greens and sand traps. My main gripe with this course: 5 tee boxes with the intermediate distance boxes placed at around 5650 yds. ( blue) and 6300yds. (silver). I am nota big bomber of the ball so if I play silver, I put one or two pars on my card. If I play from the blue tees I get more pars but it is less challenging. Ideally I enjoy playing 5900-6000 yds at this stage in my life. I believe all golf courses would do well to set up at least one set of tee boxes at this distance....

Played On 07/20/2020Course undergoing aerification of the greens...
Greens being aerified this week, had to play front nine twice. Should be some kind of warning posted on GolfNow when this is happening so the buyer has some idea of what he is getting into. Fairways were in spotty condition with bare spots throughout....
I agree. Sorry you missed the alerts but we do require GolfNow to post them in 2 places.
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/08/2020Greens in fine shape...
But the fairways were spotty in a lot of areas throughout the course. Lots of bare spot lies in the middle of the fairway. Sand traps in decent enough condition. Pace of play was excellent, our twosome finished in exactly 3 hours...
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2020Course was in fine shape...
Greens, fairways and sand traps were all in very niece condition. I was especially impressed with their fairways. Most courses I’ve played as of late had bare spots thruout their fairways but Palmbrook does not seem to have that problem The tee boxes on the other hand need a good deal of work. I found their carts annoying, if you got off the cart path and got a little too close to the green or tee box the cart automatically shut down. The only way to move was to put the cart in reverse. Not a big deal, just annoying....

Cave Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2020Average
The fact that it is built over an old landfill says it all! Grounds keeping has just finished punching the greens so there is that and it still has it’s rough edges. Has some interesting holes on the back nine but the front is blahhhhh!!! Hadn’t played it in a few years and pretty much understood why once I was on the course....
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Cave Creek Golf Course, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Sun City Country Club
Played On 06/15/2020Always enjoyable...
This course really reminds me of the courses in the Midwest part of the country. The tees and greens were in good shape, the fairways were a bit spotty in areas but they seemed to be directing a bit more water in those areas so they seem to be trying. Couldn’t tell you about the condition of the traps because I managed to avoid them. But I will tell you that my wife managed to get out of them easy enough and she is usually a terrible bunker player!!! Oh yeah, you can score well here if you avoid the trees. The pace of play stunned me since we had 2 fives ones ahead of us ( played in exactly 3 hours)....
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/12/2020A nice track...
Overall the course was in pretty decent shape, the fairways were a bit spotty in some areas. But no worse than other courses around town. Enjoyed the pace of play, finished in a bit over 3 hours. Worth your effort and money to play it.
Coldwater Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2020Worth the drive for me...
I drove from NE Phoenix but the drive was worth it. The greens, fairways, tee and in most cases the sand traps were all in very playable condition. The Hot Deal price I paid was a great bonus too boot. I was glad to have driven the extra miles, it definitely was worth it...
Stonecreek Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2020Challenging but fair....
Greens, tees and fairways all in pretty decent condition, some of the sand traps could have used a bit more sand but others seemed to be in fine condition. A lot of the holes especially on the front nine had water and marshy areas that came into play. The back nine was a bit more open and seemed to show some of the rougher edges, less water but quite a few more humps and bumps leading to uneven lies but that is not to say that is a bad thing. The course has 5 sets of tees and on the card it hints at what tee you should play depending on your handicap. Overall with all its nuances, I found it to be a thinking man’s challenge especially on the front. I look forward to playing it again....when it is in my price range....
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 06/01/2020Always a pleasure...
Playing this course. Greens, fairways, tees and traps all in very playable condition. You may want to forego playing here on a Mondays, there were a lot of workers maintaining the course and unless your ball is on top of them, they pretty much ignore you ( especially those cutting the fairways). Tended to give me pause before hitting which led to a longer round. But that’s just me...!!!
Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 05/18/2020This course is a bit of an anomaly for me to review. It has awesome par 5 holes, long dogleg left with water protecting their left flanks on each and I everyone of them. Long par 4’s, some bland but some with real character and same with the par 3’s. So what’s the problem? The problem is shoddy tees, so-so sand traps, and pot holes and really rough spots in the rough. A good management company needs to come in and make some changes and the West side would really have ahem of a course....
Great Eagle Golf Club
Played On 04/27/2020I would call it a cow pasture....
But that would be insulting cow pastures!!! Lots of bare spots throughout, so many pot holes, gimmicked up with plenty of moguls..... OK, to be totally honest there were some holes that were actually in pretty good shape and those were a pleasure to play, but then there were some where you stood on the tee and wondered where the fairway was or if there was one at all! Wanted to check this course out before we recommended it to friends who live out in that neighborhood, won’t be doing that any time soon. But hey, just to be fair, we played with 2 locals and they were singing its praises throughout the round. Go figure.....
Willowcreek Golf Course
Played On 02/21/2020Much improved since overseed but...
The greens were in better shape then last year before the overseed but I wonder if after that rye grass starts to die if they will return to being in poor condition. For now, though it is in decent enough condition to be enjoyable....
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 01/16/20205 Star rating without question
The course was in great condition, unfortunately my game wasn’t. After a while I swore I was playing a beach ball instead of a golf ball because it was lying in sand on just about every hole....
Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 01/02/2020Not high on “must play” list of courses
I give the course the benefit of the doubt as far as the tees, fairways and greens being in good shape. Once you hit your tee shot leaving the tee area in a cart is a real kidney rattler, pot holes all around and the same is true in much of the rough. The sand traps are way over sanded with very inconsistent distribution. Basically Ionly play this course when nothing else is available in that price range....
