About

I have played over 300 golf courses in 10 states & 6 different countries. My goal is to play at least once in every state except (probably) Alaska. Don't hit it like I used to so I have moved up a tee (or two, depending on the course) & I love courses w/combo tees. Golf is still fun & that's why I play as much as possible. I decided to post on Golf Advisor because I use this website when planning trips / vacations. I have also been on a few course rating team trips for the WSGA and understand what goes into a golf course's slope rating.

Can't recommend this course!

Too many bunkers, almost all of them deep & dirt, not sand, not maintained and often on both side of fairways and green approaches. Consequences are slow play and just NOT a lot of fun to play. Low cost of round was the only grace of this golf course.

A pleasant surprise in Quincy, WA.

This is a nice little golf course in central Washington state. I enjoyed the golf course and the staff when I was there. I played the front nine with a local couple and the back nine with a couple from Spokane and both couples were fun to play golf with. The course is fairly short, and there are four holes (two are par threes) crammed together in the western neck of the golf course with number 16, the last hole in the series, containing an in course out of bounds. The greens were medium speed, not too large and tended to slope away if you weren't in the middle of them. They made good targets. There is a little bit of water on the golf course and some bunkers, but all of the trouble is easy to avoid, even for a hack like me. I would say this course is a VERY GOOD value for the money. It is also nearly flat and easily walkable if that is your preference.

Not worth the time

I had driven by Goldendale in the past and a friend of mine was the PGA professional there for a time back in the 90s., but I had never given the course a try. Unless you have other business or reason to be in Goldendale, WA., you should skip this one. It serves its purpose for local golfers, but there are far better courses within 90 minutes of this one.

Challenging sight lines and elevation changes.

My wife and I played this course on the way back from a southern Idaho trip. It is not far from La Grande, OR and very accessible. The pro shop guy couldn't have been nicer. The course itself is interesting with constant elevation changes and enough hazards to keep your attention. For a first timer at this course, the hardest thing was the sight lines to the landing areas. There are some high desert areas and tall reeds in other places make it difficult to tell where you should be landing your tee shot. The best hole on the golf course is the 493 yard par 5 16th. It's all up hill and the last 150 yards are pretty steep. Overall I recommend this course and I think I would play it better the 2nd time around.

Not as good as other area courses!

I never played this course prior to it's remodel & renaming. At one time it was called Hunter's Point. There are quite a few very good holes on this golf course, but because of the housing development there, some holes are not worth playing. A 220 yard par four? I never expect late season conditioning to be like summer, but some of the heavy divot areas with NO repairs were inexcusable and the greens hadn't been mowed in a while. There is a nice clubhouse with nothing in it except a beer cooler and a hot dog machine. People were nice and price was right.

Clarkston is a good value.

This golf course is now semi private and owned by the Nez Perce Tribal Enterprises. It is a parkland golf course with lots of mature trees, some water, sand traps on nearly every hole and greens that are medium to fairly steep and fast. It is an easy course to walk with only one large hill to contend with. Out of bounds (ALWAYS on the left) can come into play on the perimeter holes and the wind can come down the Snake River canyon from the west and the Clearwater River from the east with equal bluster depending on the day. The restaurant and lounge are open to the public though the restaurant has limited hours. At only 700' above sea level the course is available for play year round though the winter months have some closure days due to heavy frost and occasional snow.

Nice golf course, will play this one again

My wife, her friend & I played Juniper last Friday. I would have given the course condition a five except a few greens were still healing from fall aeration. A good variety of holes on this course. Shorter holes are more dependent on accuracy and there are some holes on the front nine that require long tee shots to even give you a chance to get to the green. My only complaint would be about the par five #6, the longest hole on the golf course. All three of us hit two good shots and still could not see the green for our approach shots . That being said, I highly recommend this course to all golfers.

Hankins layout was just as good.

Margaret & I played this course the morning after we played the Craddock layout in the afternoon. Great links style golf course. I scored better on this layout, but I think both of us slightly preferred the Craddock layout. The course is as walkable as Chambers Bay according to Margaret who does walk most of the time.

Great links style golf course in the middle of nowhere!

My wife and I knew about Silvies Valley Ranch from the time it opened, but this was our first time playing it as it is rather remote and a bit of a drive. The course was in excellent condition. We both enjoy links style golf and that's what you get here. The greens roll very nicely, but because of the elevation changes and contours are difficult for a first timer to read. There is plenty of room off the tee and the large greens aren't that hard to hit. This is a very scenic course and the staff at the resort was wonderful. It IS a little pricey, but other than that we loved it.

Good place for a cheap round of golf.

The price for two people and a golf cart was $ 96.00 and I consider that a bargain these day. There is nothing outstanding or terrible about this golf course. The locals were very friendly, always a plus, and the greens were in good shape. My only complaint would be the length of the rough. The ball could be two feet off the fairway and you might not see it as the grass was so long it thoroughly covered the ball sometimes.

Interesting golf course, would play again.

There was a light rain falling on a Sunday morning when we played this course. I made a tee time on line and we got off on time. The course absorbed the moisture well. The front nine wasn't too interesting until about the 6th hole and after that there were a lot of good holes including a 608 yard par 5. Good greens & bunkers, consistent. I would recommend this course to anyone.

I will play this course again.

Good golf course with lots of undulation and a few holes you will play better the 2nd time around. The north end of the course slopes rather severely to the north and these are the holes you will learn where not to hit it. That being said, bunkers and greens were excellent. Port Angeles has had a dry summer so the fairways were a little brown in spots, but the grass seemed healthy and you get a lot of roll with these conditions. REALLY nice people in the pro shop, restaurant and on the course. PLUS Port Angeles is located near the Straits of Juan De Fuca and the gorgeous Olympic Mountains so there is lots to do in Port Angeles.

Avalon Golf Links is a fun place to play.

My wife and I played the South-North combination at Avalon and enjoyed it very much. The greens were very good, the sand was consistent and the layout was interesting. You have room to play away from trouble on every hole, but a bad shot is punished appropriately. This is a 27 hole facility and I also played 5 holes on the West nine before we ran out of time. They also have the new golf cycles to rent and this is the first time I had ever seen them. I am going to have to give them a try next chance I get.

Gamble Sands is very good, not for everyone

I had played the course before, but this was my wife's first time there so I got a different perspective from a pretty good golfer. We have played links style courses before (Wine Valley, Chambers Bay, etc). If you are used to chipping and hitting fairway woods from lies where the ball is sitting up on the fairway grass, you may have a tough time with the fescue at Gamble Sands. The greens are huge with very little definition and you can literally putt from 40 yards (or more) due to the thin fescue grass. I LIKE that, but it was a little too foreign for Margaret.

Big River has greats greens!

I had driven past this course many times and last week I decided to stop and play it. The layout is nothing special, but the maintenance was good and the greens were outstanding. These smallish targets were absolutely smooth, rolled true and had some speed to them. This is a very inexpensive course to play, my cost included a cart for 18 holes. I would recommend it and will probably play it again when my wife is with me as I think she would enjoy it too.

Lost Tracks is a worthwhile play.

This was a fun golf course to play. The course itself was in very good condition. Routing is easy to follow and multiple tee choices for all levels of play. LOTS of doglegs, pretty much every hole except par threes. The greens were what I would call average speed. I like them a little faster, but they were consistent and putted true. There is ample landing area for tee shots on all the holes. The par threes all have bailout areas to avoid water hazards if you need them. Friendly staff in the pro shop and the bar area. I would recommend to anyone and will certainly play this course again when I am in the Bend area.

Easy to skip this one

An acquaintance of mine plays his golf at Mount Si so my wife and I thought we would give it a try on a recent trip west of the Cascades. The course itself is very vanilla. A lot of short fairly straight holes, especially on the front nine. The back nine has some elevation changes and is more interesting than the front. The three par fives are all gentle continuous curving holes & there are only three par threes on the course for a par of 72. The fairways are tree lined, but wide & not at all intimidating.

We both thought the course overpriced for the condition it was in and a little boring. We did love the restaurant / bar at the golf course. Stop by for a meal if you're in the area, it's worth it.

Great Layout, HUGE GREENS!

My wife & I played The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway, WA last Saturday. We arrived well before our tee time and the friendly staff in the pro shop were able to get us off the tee within 45 minutes. The course is fairly hilly and fairways are tree lined. The greens are well bunkered, contoured and huge. There are parts of many greens you will not see from the fairway. The course was in pretty good condition overall though the roughs are a bit messy.

I would recommend this course to anyone. It's challenging without being too hard. A short straight hitter will have better luck here than a long hitter who sprays the ball and being able to navigate large undulating greens will help a lot too. Great value!

Cholla is my preferred We-Ko-Pa track

This is a tough golf course, but unlike it's sister course it is fair. Plenty of bunkers, but they are sand, not dirt and they don't have stones in them. The layout will challenge you off the tee & on many of the approach shots. I would definitely play this one again.

Wicked Six is a tough finish

This golf course plays out in three acts. The first six holes are pretty easy. Only #5 is the only one of these that is not downhill so they play shorter the yardage. The middle six holes are a mixed bag with #'s 10 & 12 being easy holes and while the others play average to tough. The last six holes are almost all uphill, some very steeply uphill. The two par threes are medium tough & the others play long. The Wicked Six is a name the course has given to this stretch & is appropriate. This is a fairly good golf course, but I didn't enjoy the finish that much.
