The Phoenician Golf Club
Played On 06/03/2017slowwwww
It's summer golf in AZ which means low rates and (hopefully)) quick-paced play. But, the low rates encourage some courses to load up the tee sheet, resulting in painfully slow play. Hot I can handle but hot and slow is just not good. Regrettably, that's the story on the Phoenician.
Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 05/29/2017solid curse
This is my go-to course in summer as rates are good, course is always in good shape as is on the reservation and the Community has ample water rigthts. Good lay out of holes, good pace of play (usually). Two 18 hole courses to choose from keeps it fresh, too.
Cave Creek Golf Course

Good price but not worth savings unless you are resigned to 5+ hour round of golf.
Driving range is subpar, even for a muni.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2015Unique and fun
Haven't played here for 15+ years and booked to get to higher elevation on HOT day. Its about a 30 minute drive from Scottsdale but worth it. Old-school charm. Well maintained, unique holes with lots of elevation. Very tight so don't let short yardage fool you. Staff was friendly, course was in great shape for dog days of AZ summer. Tonto Bar and Grille is worth the drive even if you aren't a golfer.
Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club

McCormick Ranch is my "go-to" course in summer. The Bermuda fairways and greens are always in top shape. The pros and staff are a great bunch of guys and very easy going. With 36 holes to play, there is lots of variety. Great course at bargain-summer rates!
