White/Blue at Myakka Pines Golf Club
Played On 02/18/2019Public Golf
Enjoyed our round at Myakka Pines GC. We rode but the course is walkable. Lots of sizeable alligators around. Loved the grass they have on that course, not your typical FL course grass. Greens were a little slow the day we played. If the speed up the greens, it would be a five star in my book. Great staff, good 19th Hole.
Sarasota National Golf Club
Played On 12/07/2018First Round at Sarasota National
Enjoyed our round today very much. Staff was great getting people to the first tee and started on time. Rangers appeared only when the pace slowed, but still was a good pace (4 hours). Course was in great shape. My first of many rounds at this course.
Coral Oaks Golf Course
Played On 11/27/2017Nice Course, Conditions OK
The course condition was ok. I understand this municipal course is on the comeback. Cart paths need replacing and a little more work on the fairways is needed. The greens weren't too bad, but as the day went on, they dried out and became too firm to hold even a sand wedge shot to the green. Most shots bounced off, but only later in the afternoon. If they had watered them mid day, they might hold at least somewhat later in the day. I felt at $50 it was overpriced for other options in the area.
River Hall Country Club
Played On 11/23/2017Great Course, Great Shape, Fast Greens
Greens were running to an 11. Fast and true. Open friendly layout. Great staff. Played on Thanksgiving day early and got around the course, two of us, uninterrupted, in three hours. Course was in great shape overall. Worth the trip to Alva.
Magnolia Landing Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/19/2017Great Value
Very nice course. Fair layout, lots of water but along the holes. No long carries iver it, from the green tees anyway. Friendly staff and a ranger on course, who wasn’t needed the day we played. Full course but 4 hour pace of play.
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 04/25/2017Best Of Two Public Courses on SSI
This course is the best of the two public courses on St. Simons Island. Green speeds were better than Sea Palms and the course had more undulations and the course was more challenging. Price was fantastic as a first off in the morning hot deal. Unless it's Friday, then GolfNow charges almost triple the other days rates, including Saturday. Try Heritage Oaks on Friday.
Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 04/24/2017First Visit to SSI
Enjoyed our round, three hours, first ones out. Resort course friendly. Resort course SLOW greens but consistent roll and greens were in great shape. Open and easy. Tee it high and let it fly!
Magnolia Landing Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/10/2017Great Experience
Picked this course based on player's ratings and we weren't disappointed. Great course and value. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely play this one again.
Arrowhead Golf Course
Played On 12/24/2014Good Value But Strange Design
Some of the golf holes were of a very strange design. Especially Hole #3. If you've not played the course and don't happen to get paired with somewhat who has, invest in the course book. Lots of water hazards that you may not notice when playing the course for the first time. I didn't care for the course design, but otherwise, it's a good value, good condition, friendly staff.
Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 11/30/2014Excellent Conditions
Course was in excellent condition and the greens were running pretty good for this time of the year. Nice scenery and the overall Marriott complex was beautiful. Challenging golf. Plays longer than the yardage on the card because of the elevations. Some greens are well protected by water. Great value on GolfNow.
PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course
Played On 11/26/2014Recovering Nicely
The course is in good shape. They are recovering from a flood in August and we played on their opening day. Conditions were fine. Pace of play was standard resort pace 4 hours 30 minutes.
PGA WEST Greg Norman Course
Played On 11/25/2014Very Nice Course, Just Opened following Reseed
No mire GPS on the carts, but I think they will have it by Christmas (new carts). Course just opened following seasonal seeding but it was in great shape. Cart path only but you could drive in the desert areas which were right up ahaint the fairways. Not much walking for cart path only. Very nice staff and good pace of play.
Lely Resort Golf & Country Club - Flamingo Island Course
Played On 12/5/2013Good Resort Course, Very Playable for All Skill Levels
The Lely courses get a lot of play but are maintained well for the traffic they get. Course is open, no rough to speak of, but challenging bunkers protect the greens. The greens were also challenging and seemed like they were recently sanded. Other courses in the area were undergoing their seasonal overseeding so i suspect this course was preparing for that. Play was a little slow but we played in the afternoon, which to some extent can be expected. The Lely courses (Flamingo and Mustang) offer a great value and we found you could always get a tee time there. Challenging enough but not difficult. We would return to play these courses again.
TPC Treviso Bay
Played On 12/2/2013Great golf course in SW FL
Great course in very good shape. Playable yet challenging. No clubhouse yet, but when it's finished, I imagine it'll be closed to the public. So play it while you can. The grass on the greens had no grain direction but the greens were posted at a 10.1 stimpmeter. A little slow for my tastes or perhaps I'm just too used to the grass we have in Michigan, which can lend itself to faster greens. Played the course twice in the week we were in the area. Good value if you can negotiate the guest rate of find a last minute deal on GolfNow.
Eagle Lakes Golf Club
Played On 11/30/2013Public Course, What do you expect? - Course Ranger Quote
Good length of a course. Five sets of tees, playable by all levels of golfers. The starter pointed out that their tees are numbered, 1-5, I assumed to be more gender neutral. He followed that statement up by telling us which one was for women, which one was for seniors and which one was the "men's white". I played the men's white, even though I'm not a man. Condition was average, greens were slow. Not much wildlife. Birds and turtles, I expected more from the write up the course gave. Had a tee time at 7:12am, thinking my husband and I would zip around in roughly 3 hours as a twosome that early in the day. Nope. Two foursomes were sent out first, followed by a twosome, then us, another twosome. When we spoke up, we were told, "it's a public course, what do you expect?" Kind if sums up the 2 stars I gave it. We paid a cheap price on Golfnow, so we weren't too disappointed. We won't play it again, but it's priced right for what it is.
RedTail Golf Club
Played On 4/15/2013Gem and Great Value
Excellent golf course but fighting some crab grass in the fairways. Once the funds are there in this new development, it will be top notch. Great value on Golfnow ($45) for 18 holes with cart and lunch. Lunch was excellent also. Would be better if they rated more of the tees for women (only 2 of 6 at this time). Play it while you can before it goes private.
Makena Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 11/29/2012Best Value on Maui, Great Golf Course
I played the course 3 times between Nov. 18-29, 2012. I also played 5 other courses during my visit and Makena is the Best Value. The course is better than maintained, but I wouldn't call it pristine. They are putting work into the course, it can only get better. The views are spectacular and they treat you excellent! A must play on maui.
