SilverRock Resort
Played On 06/04/2015The Finest
Last year I had booked to play Silverrock but the big rain storm washed the place out. I was disappointed as I had targeted this as a "must play" for myself.
So I have been watching for a an opportunity to get on at a reasonable price since the course came back. On this day my golf buddy an I played Terra Lago and were happy as clams with that facility, we got done at 1pm and thought, heck we're out here lets play another round somewhere. Silverrock came up at an acceptable price so we booked it and scooted over to play another 18 holes.
So to put it simply, this is finest facility and course I've ever played. The staff was fantastic the views were staggeringly beautiful, and the course was a feast of challenging and scenic shots. The Desert Bighorn were on the course which for me makes this my number one choice for golf in the La Quinta area. The sand was marvelous, the fairways sublime, the greens spectacular.
We had the place to ourselves which was a huge plus as well, being new to the track. I couldn't recommend a course more highly than Silverrock. We plan to go often now. Get out there, you will not be disappointed.
San Bernardino Golf Club
Played On 03/23/2015Classic Golf @ SanBerdoo
I always say to myself "why has it been so long since I played here?" I like San Bernardino. It's a very pleasant course, a little different then a lot of course in the area. Fine old trees keep you very honest about staying straight, water here and there to make you rethink going for the greens on some holes. Smallish greens on some holes make choosing your play an imperative. PAR 70 makes you think it's a push over, it's not. Play it loose and you'll see your score rise. No I should play this track more, it's good for your game.
For me this time of year, the Bluebirds all over the course, I just love that.
PGA WEST Greg Norman Course
Played On 02/25/2015PGA Greg Norman Challenges
A staff member informed us at the turn that there were 88 bunkers on the back....after a great front 9, it seemd that the Norman was not too tough. That all changed as we teed up on the 10. Lots and lots of bunkers.
You have to plan your strategy to get to the well protected greens. Add some water to keep you extra honest and hope you hit the magnificent fairways.
Played the Jack around Christmas and though it was nice but I have to say the Norman is a handful and made for some great golf.
Go Play!
PGA WEST Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course
Played On 12/30/2014Never Saw the Sun, but Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course Shined!
I was kinda bummed that the sun never came out of the heavy clouds, but it didn't rain either, so that was a plus. Overall I was just thrilled to play such a fine course, the fairways were the best I've ever set foot on for the most part. The greens were an alien planet as far as I was concerned, I never got a handle on them. A couple more rounds and I think I could be in my normal scoring range but for a fiorst visit I was beaten by the course. NOT that it was that tough of a course, there were some interesting shot choices to be made (multiple fairways), do I lay up or not? Things like that, but the greens were mostly very true, not really fast like I had expected, just different for an old Inland Empire golfer like myself. It was a great golf, wish I played up to it, but I'll be back, it's a fantastic place!
Calimesa Country Club
Played On 11/07/2014Calimesa Shines
This course is quickly becoming my favorite. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and the day was gorgeous. The doglegs here make you think your shots out, you can't just fire away and be fine for the next. I like that. The bunkers though I was able to avoid them this round looked to be in better than most courses bunkers with playable sand. Several of the par fours are short enough to be good birdie opportunities but you have to be thoughtful about them or they will turn into boggy holes for most. If this one has been on your list to give a try, like it was for me. Make the drive and have a good round, you'll fall in love.
Fallbrook Golf Club
Played On 10/24/2014Fallbrook perfect setting for golf
Wanted to get out and play a "new to me" course. So I hit the road for this wonderful track. The place was just outstanding, I loved the folks there and the trees and just the overall aesthetic of the course. I'll be back for sure. Even though the place was full and the play got a tad slowish from time to time, what a great place to spend an afternoon.
If you're in a hurry, I'd say go someplace else as Fallbrook would be wasted on you, but if you want to slow down a little and enjoy a round, there is no place better for atmosphere.
And now for the holes. The course has narrow places and plenty of mature trees to keep you honest. Good greens that break when they look like they should break. I was only in one bunker and I have to say it was the best sand I've hit out of in a very long time. Deep and soft. Everything you ever heard about hitting out of the sand you actually get to use here! That threw me at first as I've gotten good at picking my ball off the hard dirt in many courses bunkers. real sand, what a concept.
Yes, I'll be going back and it was a 55 mile drive for me. Worth every moment I spent in the late afternoon traffic coming home to Riverside.
Marshall Canyon Golf Club
Played On 06/05/2014Marshall Canyon: A Different Feel
Love MC, have since my first round a year or so ago. It's a hike from Riverside with traffic considerations, but I should go more often. The course was in great shape the greens were in great shape and the were rolling medium fast. The deer were there to great us as usual and that just makes golf at Marshall Canyon a different sort of place. You gotta add this one to your list.
The Country Club at Soboba Springs
Played On 04/25/2014Soboba Springs is a Gem!
This one has been on my to-play list for some time, finally got it booked and got out there, MAN-O-MAN what a great track.
I have to admit the course was a challenge to me, probably because I had played a round a day for the entire week and felt a bit tired. I'll be back on a Monday or Tuesday to bring my best game to beat the well guarded and quick greens. The length wasn't bad, not long not short. Some excellent Par 3s over water, Just a bunch of well laid out holes.
I'd put this one in my top 4 in the Inland Empire.
Empire Lakes Golf Course
Played On 03/07/2014Bring your A Game to Empire Lakes
This one has been on my to-do list for a long time. I had heard that it was a top notch challenging track and it delivered.
Lots of water, nice bunkers and pretty fairways and greens.
As for the play? Well it was a tough one for my game. A good mix of hole lengths with shot placement a factor on many.
I'll be back, you should get out on this one.
Van Buren Golf Center
Played On 9/17/2013Van Buren a great place to blow the dust opf your game
I've loved Van Buren Gold Center from the beginning when I came out to start back into golf after over ten years away from the game. The staff is wonderful and the course is always being worked to make it good. never played at night but that could be fun. My favorite holes are the 7 and 8 on the airport side. Putting greens and chipping greens are available and the range is great with the lights. Not a big fan of hitting off mats but still a nice place to get your game going.
CrossCreek Golf Club
Played On 6/3/2013CrossCreek is amazing!
What a beautiful course hidden in a quiet valley. Fantastic fairways and greens, challenge for any golfer at any level, CrossCreek is one of the top 10 in the IE-Temecula area. I got behind the track and fought the whole way to the 18th. I will retuurn now that I've been around once to try and redeem my score. Make the drive to crossCreek and you'll be so happy you did.
Oak Quarry Golf Club
Played On 5/31/2013Oak Quarry is the best!
Oak Quarry has such a great bunch of holes it's hard not to have your game elevated (pun intended) by the track. The beauty aside, the fairways are as good as it gets, the greens were very nice, the facilty is just a cut above. I was challenged by many of the holes and elacted to leave the driver in the bag and pull the 3w out to stay out of trouble with my pesky fade
Shorecliffs Golf Club
Played On 5/30/2013Shorecliffs: A tight track that challenges you from the Tees
Been wanting to play on the coast since I began, finally got it done at Shorecliffs. Had a ton of fun on a course that was somewhat narrow challenging me to hit straight and honest. The greens were fast and the breaks were tight. I have to say the fairways were of a mixed quality with various kinds of grass, but hey, that added to the challenge. Lots of bunkers and trouble if you don't put it where you aim. Great track!
The Golf Club at Rancho California
Played On 5/29/2013Tough Round at Rancho
The former SCGA course is another track that my golf buddies said I should try. So I booked a tee time and was very surprised at how challenging the course was. The opening hole presented me with a long par 5 dogleg right that really set the tone for the round. The greens were pretty quick and getting on close to the flag paid dividends. I have to say that I could imagine that in it's heyday this place must of been gorgeous, I'm afraid it has slipped a bit but still all in all a good day of golf that challenged me hole after hole. Bring your best game and have fun.
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions Course
Played On 5/24/2013Tuket Champions is a handfull
I'd hit a round at Tukwet Legands before and simply loved the course, so I was happy to finally get over and hit a round on the Champions side. Yikes! Relentless, challenging, tough, and about six other adjetives might fit. The Champions track requires you to bring your whole game and the best version of it at that. Yo have to be long in some places, precise in your putts, and in control of your ball most of the day to score well. As revealing as it was to my short comings, I had a ball and will be back again. The course is gorgeous and challenging.
Colton Golf Club
Played On 5/22/2013Let Colton Golf Club Illuminate Your Short Game Weaknesses
I've been wanting to get over to this track for a long time, finally got over there and I have to say i went in with a sort of casual attitude (like it would be and easy 18 holes). I quickly found myself behind the course that and seeing that I need to more time on the ole short game. I got spanked by the place.Colton Golf Club is a great place to work out your Par 3 short game issues. The greens were very, very nice. They are obviously making some changes to the course to make it it even better for a workout. I will be back and plan to make it a regular stop from now on. You could hit your driver on a few holes but I suggest you do like I did and promise myself to leave it in the bag and work the irons and woods all the way around. It'll be good for you. Love Colton.
The Links at Summerly
Played On 4/30/2013A challenge at the Links
I've had many folks have much to say about Summerly, seems people love it or hate it. I struggled a bit at first, then I changed my approach to the course and didn't try to play it like it was just like any other course and suddenly I'm having the time of my life and my game came up to the challenge that the Links at summerly presents golfers. The reward? One of my lowest scores ever. You can't bang away at Summerly like you do at other "normal" courses, the Links require a different approach, I realized that and it was a fun course. The course itself was in pretty good shape. the fairways are a mixed bag as far as condition but I'd say mostly on the good side of things. The greens were honest, meaning the broke when they looked like they should break, can't say that about alot of tracks. Plenty of bunkers to avoid and then there are "the Burns", this added another demention to the round, but more importantly, it made me think out my shots more, it demanded it. This is where I think those who don't care for the place come down on it. They want to just bang out a big drive. I have a big drive, but for the most part I had to reign it in and be more about placing the shot. That's good for us. I believe that a round or two (at least )for every serious golfer here would do them good. I'm going out today to hit at one of my usual tracks and I'm going to take what I learned at Summerly with me and I just bet that I'll drop some shots from my score. The Links at Summerly, love or hate it? I loved it. I think I'll get me a kilt to wear for the next visit. Just to get into the spirit of the place. We're coming into the hot season, you never know it might become the fashion! I am serious though when I say go let the Links teach you something about golf and you'll have a great day and grow as a golfer.
Yucaipa Valley Golf Club
Played On 4/29/2013Yucaipa Valley Golf Course Rocks!
First time on this track, many folks have said it was a good course. Finally got there and man o man were they right! I simply fell in love with this great course. Great fairways, appropriate rough along them, and the greens were quite challenging. The course was in very fine shape and with perfect weather it was just a wonderful day. Long enough without being nuts, and plenty of trouble to keep you honest with your shot placement. If you haven't been to this one, get there!
Green River Golf Club
Played On 4/24/2013Green River Sneaks Up You!
Green River at first seems like a nice walk in a great country pasture, but soon it starts to show it's got some teeth. I love the place, it's got some nice long holes as well as some tricky par 3s. Plenty of bunkers will keep you honest and the river running through it comes into play if you get greedy and try to stretch out your drives. The greens were in superb shape and the fairways allowed for some decent roll. I have to confess I was a pit casual at first and got behind the course. It snuck up on me and I was fighting to get back to normal score. The course won this round but I'll be back, it's hard to get this track out of your mind once you go a round there.
Menifee Lakes Country Club - The Palms Golf Course
Played On 4/22/2013Menifee Lakes = Great Golf
First time over to Menifee Lakes, played the Lakes course. The greens were super, the staff and facilitie were great. The fairways could have been better in some places but overall it was great golf. Plenty of bunkers to keep you honest about your shot placement, that's both fairway and around the greens. The sand in some of the bumkers was wet so it was a challenge from trap to trap so you had to adjust your bunker play, unforntunately I spent an above average amount of time in them (LOL) The staff was way above average on the friendliness and just overall helpful scale. Beverage cart service was great with the girl coming by enough to keep you hydrated and happy. Godd round at a nice track.
