SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 06/04/2017The Wicked Six is a ridiculous final six holes
So, this golf course is ok, but the layout is kind of a joke. The first 12 holes are fine, but then it finishes with "The Wicked Six". They are very proud of these holes, but they are just a joke. You start out at the bottom of the canyon and work your wake back up the canyon for six holes until you reach the clubhouse. We played the front nine in about 1:50, but caught the groups in front of us on 12 and the back nine took 2:47. This is directly attributable these last six holes, and the fact that groups don't play the proper tees. In addition, no marshal on the course at all. We paid a decent price, but it just isn't worth it. I don't recommend this course unless you like Mickey Mouse stuff. Also, the greens were rolling about 7 on the Stimpmeter, and the cups hand't been cut new for at least 3 days. I just don't think that is acceptable on a Troon course.
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2015Good value at this price
Made a tee time for Sunday AM. Got paired up with 3 others; quick players, we were 4th group out. Played in 3:50, so not exceptionally fast, but pretty fast. Pins were in pretty tough spots, certainly not "move them around fast" pin locations. Course was in great condition, greens good but a little soft. Otherwise, course was excellent and so was the value.
Makray Memorial Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2015Great place
Played on a Saturday morning, Course is in excellent condition, even with the amount of rain we've had lately. Greens very fast and fairly severe conturing. Overall, excellent condition and quite challenging. Option to walk is nice, and pace of play was 4:12, without seeing a ranger all day. I'm sure it takes longer later in the day, but at 8AM the pace was fine, although not really fast.
Stonewall Orchard Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2014Good course - Very wet
Cart path only day, which caused for some slow play. Course in relatively good shape considering the amount of rain. Pretty good value.
Golf Club of Illinois
Played On 05/18/2013Interesting green complexes
We played in 2h57m on Saturday morning, second group out. Course was in good shape, but as we played we noticed the pin positions were in some very interesting places on the greens. The greens here are very pitched and can be quite severe. If the greens were really fast, there were some positions on that day where one couldn't keep the ball on the green. Overall, an enjoyable course that can be made very difficult with the extreme pin placement and a bit of wind.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 1/21/2013Not quite what we thought we had paid for, but extenuating cicrumstances
When we signed up to play, we believed we were getting the Saguaro/Tortolita combination, which is the combo played for the Accenture Match Play. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were informed that we were on Saguaro/Wild Burro. Tortolita was closed, and Saguaro was cart path only. Fine, we played Saguaro the first nine and it is just a fantastic 9 holes. We then finished on Wild Burro. It is really a joke. We were told it is the members favorite nine, but there is no way. The greens are extremely severe, which is fine for putting, but you never know where to land your ball on the green. With so many downslopes, etc., it was tough to keep the ball on the green. More importantly, we were behind a foursome that was very slow. They almost let us through on the 10th tee, but didn't, and we waited every shot the rest of the day. Let me say that they didn't wait on any shots, since they were so far out of position. Moreover, we didn't see a marshall on that nine holes to complain. It just wasn't the experience i have had their previously, and certainly wasn't in keeping with the reputation of the Ritz Carlton.
Golf Club of Estrella
Played On 1/19/2013Great day at Estrella
Course was in excellent condition for this time of year. Perfect weather, pace of play was under 4.5 hours. My buddy made a hole in one and the staff was very helpful in getting him all the information he needed to report everything.
Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 11/4/2012Great layout, slow greens
This course has a great layout reminiscent of Pine Valley. However, on the day that we played, the greens were maybe a 4-5 on the stimpmeter, which is just unacceptable. Having said that, if these greens were 12, then it would take 6 hours to play.
