Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills
Played On 08/11/2018First Time In 15 Years
This used to be my quick go to course when I lived on this side of town. I now live 40 minutes away. I needed to be on this side of town on other business an took the opportunity to visit an "Old Friend" Much has changed and much is the same. The blend of college age folks and retirees is still there. As a single, I hope to be paired with like aged players. No luck, I was teamed with 3 nice college boys, who could really golf their ball! Out drove me on every long hole, and putted lights out. Course layout is the same, but some old hazzards have been removed. The Bamboo forest near #12 was gone and catch basin in its place. No lost balls in there, not quite as scenic. All the greens were fuzzy slow, but one was warned at the Pro Shop about it. It was true. Many missed birdies cause ball just stopped and did not fall. Listen to the Pro next time. Overall a nice hot day with an Old Buddy. Try it, you will like it. Putt strong, tho.

This is my second time at this course. Been playing other other Sun City links and this one has me interested. I think it's greens, they are not flat. Putting is a challenge here. It's in very good condition so it's your mistake not the surface. I enjoyed the course the time before and was not disappointed with this round either. Back Saturday for number 3. I will credit my enjoyment partially to the friendliness of the Pro shop and snack bar. Unlike many other courses in the area the staff actually appears to care about you and your time there. I hope they can keep it up. Maybe they can teach the other Sun City Staffs how to smile and say Thank You.

Played On 08/06/2017Fast and Hot
Tried to get a round in before the real heat arrived. Started at 9:45 am which was nice as the tee time was set for 10:15 when booked. Played a nice 4 some, with a variety of players. One expert who could hit from the tips, one very good player-played from the "men's" tee and one senior (me) plus a guys who was playing his second room ever. Believe it or not, we kept up with all groups ahead and behind. Course was fun and when all players are there just to enjoy golf it was a fast round. Can't complain about heat, it is summer in Arizona and one expects hot. Thanks to rapid play, we finished before before the full heat arrived. Fun day, nice experience, will do again. Pray for less humidity, though.

Played On 10/02/2016Best Sun City Course
Over the past few years I have played several Sun City courses. The North and the South courses and Union Hills plus Sun City Country Club. All of those facilities had "attitude" toward the golfer. This one is the friendliest one. The Pro Shop and restaurant were very nice. Please and thank you's abound. So, when I can (after overseeding) I will play here again. The course itself is typical Sun City layout flat and less than picturesque, but very playable and if need be, fast. My twosome finished in less than 4 hours and were playing slowly. My partner complained about the greens being too fast and not holding, but I didn't have that problem. Nice selection of teeboxes to fit anyone's game and the carts were well charged up and fast. Good Place, Good times. You should try it.
North Golf Course at Sun City
Played On 05/29/2016Better Than Expected
This is the second time playing this course. Except for the humorless people behind the counter, it was a nice experience. I don't think there has been a smile there in years. The last time I played it was the same group of sour-pusses. On to the course. I found it in very good shape. The greens were smooth and true and I putted the best in weeks. I even found fluffy sand in the traps as opposed to the usual Sun City concrete bunkers. I could get my sand wedge under the ball for once. Shot an amazing 80, which for me is really good. Thanks to the course, but not to the staff.

I was expecting more for course that has been around for at least 50 years. I expected mature landscaping, large , shady trees and interesting and challenging holes. What I got was plain Jane, every hole just about the same. Flat, flat flat straight, a little dog leg this way then that. Too much the same bunker placement, surround the the green and good luck. I have played other SunCity courses that were much more enjoyable. I guess you have to play this one to appreciate the others more. One staffer was very personable, the other one had been sucking lemons all day, it seemed. Try Another One.

Played many years before and decided to try it again. Course is pretty much as I remembered it. Old and well developed, nice combination of short, medium and long holes. Played it twice and used the other tees on the back 9. Quick and fun good for walking. Well maintained. Won't wait for years to play again.

Why that headline? In the 1950's Chuck made a film called, "The Naked Jungle" based on the short story named, "Linangen and the Ants". Essentially a man versus nature in South America, where upon his plantation, that he carved out of the rain forest , is in the path of "Marrabunta" or the army ants, that eat everything in its path. Vegetation, animals, even Chuck and his new bride. The Army of Ants is in the billions. That is what the sand traps were like on this course. Infested!!! I won't get into the mosquito problem cause I am still scratching all the bites! These folks need some serious maintainence done soon. Looks like a nice course ruined.
Pump out the standing water, spray and save Chuck from the Ants! Never again. If you play, bring the Deet.
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 8/11/2013What a Pleasant Surprise!
This my first time playing this course. Facilities, staff and conditions were very good, above average to be more precise. Everything was easy to get to. Ice machine, water, driving range and carts were very close by. No hunting for this or that required.Of course making a birdie on the first hole help set my mood for the day. Overall, it was a very good day for golfing and I will certain come back again. My only critical observation was the decor of the clubhouse. The decor was up to date in 1964. The interior could benefit from remodeling, maybe up to 1997....I know this is Sun City, get used to it.
Sun City Country Club
Played On 5/5/2013Good Value at the right time.
I have played this course several times and have found it to a good value for the money. Nice shady trees and a layout that is challenging and fun to play. A couple of water holes have captured of few of my balls, but funny as it seems, most times I find more than my share of lost balls. Although the greens for the most part are in good shape in May, I have found the fairways a little on the rough and dry. Water is expensive, but a little more on the fairways wouldn't hurt. Pathways are neat and well maintained and the ball washers are full and all have towels attached. I give Sun City Country Club a B+ rating. The staff has always been cordial and helpful. A few weeks ago I was allowed to tryout a new Razor driver from the pro shop. I was Impressed with the stick and the attentiveness of the folks behind the counter. When I am ready to buy, I might just get one from them
