Winter Park Golf Course
Played On 02/07/2020One of the most enjoyable golf experiences in the country!
Second time I've visited the WP9 and it's one of the most enjoyable layouts you can play. Tee to the Green the courses is extremely short with all the grass cut fairway height. The Greens however are very challenging with undulations which can make even the most skilled player look bad if you leave the ball in the wrong spot. If you are ever in the Orlando area for a trip Winter Park is a place you have to visit.
Shepherd's Crook Golf Course
Played On 04/26/2019One of the best public courses in Illinois
Visiting the Chicago area from Michigan this course was recommended by a friend who lives in the northern suburbs and it did not disappoint. Despite the wind blowing 20-25mph all afternoon on this mostly open links layout the course was very fair and even allowed for some scoring opportunities. The course was in excellent condition with the greens rolling true with moderate speed and great conditioning throughout the course. Having played a few other Keith Foster designs I was not disappointed by Shepherds Crook and would tell anyone in the Chicago area to visit if your looking for a great deal.
Palm Beach Golf Course
Played On 02/28/2018Enjoyable, Beautifully Conditioned Gem
Having heard nothing but great reviews of this layout I drove about an hour north to play the Palm Beach GC. Teeing off a little after 8am I was greeted by a perfect condition golf course with no more than a few groups on the course. I was paired with a local who gave me a few tips and enjoyed the round which we played in about 2.5 hours. The hole locations on many greens were placed in corners and valleys which allowed for a lower handicap player like myself to use some creativity to get the ball close to the hole and narrowly missing a hole in one on a few holes. The ocean views on the back nine holes are spectacular with the course only seperate from the beach by a few yards. I will make it a point on future trips to the area to get in a round here again.
Battle Creek Country Club
Played On 08/28/2017Willie Park Jr. Classic
Willie Park Jr. design which is a classic parkland course with very severe greens. Despite the green complexes it is very playable for any skill level of golfer as the approaches on many holes allow for shots to be run up from short and there is a lack of hazards besides a few holes. The course is scoreable for the lower handicap as putts can be holed if you can find the proper level/ tier. This is a must play layout if your given the opportunity.
Canyon/Lakes at Spanish Trail Country Club
Played On 03/15/2017Challenging Course/ Avoid The Bunkers
Challenging layout from the back tees, the Lakes course features alot of water in play and demands accuracy with your irons. The Sunrise course is more open with bunkers and some trees as the defense. Course was in decent shape with the greens and fairways well maintained and the rough being a little patchy. The Bunkers as mentioned in previous posts are lacking sand and I bladed both green side shots I had due to this. Overall it was an enjoyable 4 hour round a short drive from the strip and very affordable compared to other options in the area.
Wesburn Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/10/2016Fun & Easy Golf Course
Short relatively easy golf course with small well maintained greens. Very Scoreable course for the better golfer as the greens roll smooth and are mostly flat. A few difficult holes are #9 (Forced carry over water off the tee) and #16 (180-190 Par 3 with a small elevated green) Staff is always great to deal with and the perfect course for a beginner or better golfer looking to shoot a low score.
Taylor Meadows Golf Club
Played On 07/23/2016Shot, Poor Condition, Slow Pace of play
I've played this course a few times a year for the past 5 years or so and this season the course is in the worst shape I've ever seen it in. Large patches of grass are missing around the edges of greens which effect play. The greens themselves are not very good and are playing slow and bumpy with missing patches of grass on some, unlike the usually fast smooth surfaces they usually have. The condition of the course is wet in some spots and bone dry in others which is a bad combination and not enjoyable for anyone. Also the Pace of Play if there is anyone playing is usually extremely slow for a 6,100 yd course. (4.5/5 Hours) I would advise playing Lakes of Taylor down the street over here any day.
TPC Michigan
Played On 07/16/2016Great Condition, Deep Bunkers, Very Challenging
Difficult Course which was in very good condition when I played. Very Tough to get up and down if you miss in a greenside bunker as they are all well below the level of the green surface and hard to stop the ball from them. Enjoyable layout which makes any golfer use every club in his bag over the course of the round with Driver not the preferred club off the tee on some Par 4's. If you get the chance to play this course do not turn it down.

Lakes of Taylor Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2016Best Public Course in Downriver Area, Challening Layout
I play this course weekly and it is by far the nicest course in the Downriver area for the public. It is a Very Challenging Layout for every level of golfer and is very well maintained even in the current dry summer we are experiencing. The course also has excellent practice facilities including a Short Game Area which is one of the nicest you will ever find.
Green Meadows Golf Course
Played On 06/19/2016Great Condition, Simple Layout
Played this course for the first time recently. Despite a drought in the area the course was in great condition with lush fairways and greens that rolled in excellent condition allowing lots of putts to be holed. The course is a Par 70 with 5 Par 5's which is kind of odd. Also alot of the holes run back and forth without much variety and no memorable hole. It's a great course for someone who is a little crooked off the tee.
Monroe Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/18/2016Classic Ross Course
Classic Donald Ross Design that just started some Public play this season under new ownership. Tight tree lined fairways with very small greens. Ball striking is at a premium here but if you hit the greens they are in excellent condition and there not as severe as other Ross designs in the area. Highly recommend anyone in the area playing this course.
Taylor Meadows Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2015Challenging Greens, Fun Course
This is a welcome change from other courses in the area as it's not the longest (6,100 Yds) but the greens play very difficult because of the speed and slope. Any approach shot missed above the hole can result in a 3 putt if your not careful. The Greens rolled great and might be some of the best public greens I've played all year. The only complaint I'd have with the course is the lack of practice facilities with only a very small practice green offered, if you would like to warmup preround you have to use the other city owned course Lakes Of Taylor a few miles away
Wesburn Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/16/2014Tiny Greens, Great Service, Fun
I've been playing Wesburn for about 15 years or so and it's in the best condition now I've seen in that time. The course has undergone some renovations over the past 2-3 years which has lengthened a few holes and remodeled a few greens to improve drainage and it's helped greatly. The course only plays about 6,100 yards from the tips but it can be tricky as the greens are very small and the rough around the green was thick in spots. The greens rolled true which allowed my group as a whole to make many putts over 10 feet during the round. The staff is the friendliest I've encountered all year and makes you want to come back again. I will play the course again this season and would reccomend it to any level of golfer.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
Country Club Of Lansing
Played On 08/10/2014Great Classic Course, Stunning Clubhouse
I had an opportunity to play this course a few times over the past week for a GAM tournament and was not disappointed. The course is almost 100 years old and is what you would expect from a classic parkland style course with tighter tree lined fairways and quick greens. There's over 50 bunkers which put a premium on accuracy but there very playable and I had no problem advancing my ball to the green out of any fairway bunkers. The course reminded me of Warwick Hills (Grand Blanc) just slightly shorter. This course is private and very hard to get on to but if I was given the opportunity I would gladly come back. The only negative of the club is the Driving Range, there's really no room for one that extends over 225 yards and it made it difficult to warm up for a tournament round without a driver.
Willow Metropark Golf Course
Played On 07/24/2014Quirky, Tight Course
This was my first time playing Willow in almost 3 years and the course was in very good condition. Greens were in very good shape just a little on the slow side, fairways were well mantained and were actually being watered midday on some holes. Bunkers were also well maintained with plenty of sand.
The course itself features many Par 4's that require less then driver off the tee for longer hitters as there's many doglegs that make you play 200-250 off the tee and no longer. It's a fun course to play for the value and I would reccomend it.
South/West at Tanglewood - The Lion
Played On 07/19/2014Worst Greens I've Played This Season
I played Tanglewood South/West nines as a practice round for an upcoming tournament today and was very disappointed with the condition of the course.
First of all I arrive early to warm up at there driving range which is a little piece of land wedged between the 9th hole and houses and doesn't allow for a club longer then a 3 iron to be hit off of shaggy unkept grass. From there I walk over to a practice putting green which was the worse condition practice green I've seen in at least 2 years. 75% of the green was lacking grass and roped off and the remaining areas were in such terrible shape I didn't even bother using it.
I started on the South Nine, the 1st green was the worst on the course with 4 and 6 also in very bad shape. Most the greens on the South had some damage that caused putts to bounce off line. There is also an ongoing construction project on Hole #3 a Par 5 in which there's random piles of dirt 5-6 feet tall in the middle of the fairway. The West nine was in much better shape with minimal damage to the greens but still some areas that altered play. I would like to note that the course condition besides the greens was pretty good and the fairways were well kept.
I've played this course for the same tournament 3 years in a row and this is by far the worst I've seen it and I will not be playing it again this year afterward. I know it was a bad winter in Michigan but it's July and the Summer has been great, there's no excuse for how bad some of these looked.
I would recommend playing another course for the price they charge.
Sandy Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/25/2014Great Course Condition, Few Quirky Holes
Sandy Creek is a flat relatively wide open golf course. The course plays long from the back tees as it's 6,800 plus yards on fairways that don't roll out much. A few holes such as 9, 10 and 15 can be difficult for those without course knowledge. The course was in great shape today and the greens rolled very true.
The Woodlands of Van Buren
Played On 06/23/2014Many Options off the tee, Great Condition
First time playing Woodlands this year and I was very impressed. The course is only 6,200 yds from the back tees but this makes the course fun. Many holes present a variety of options off the tee allowing the more aggressive player to hit driver and the conservative player to hit mid irons. The course condition was great and I couldn't find a single area that was out of shape all day. There was a fair amount of players on the course and we still played 18 holes in 3 hours as a twosome. I will play this course again this season.
Tamaron Country Club
Played On 06/21/2014Elevation Changes & Small Greens on 20's Course
Tamaron CC was built in the late 1920's and it's clearly evident when playing it today. The course isn't very long (6,000 yds) and is similar to many courses of that era with small elevated undulating greens. I've only played the course on other time and it's a very quirky course if your not familiar with it as many holes have blind tee shots or approaches. The course condition with average as the fairways were shaggy in spots and the rough was mostly clover. The greens were in very good shape and rolled true all day. This is a course that I would reccomend for an occasional round at a discount but besides that I would play other courses in the area.
Thank you for the review and course feedback! We are always looking for ways to improve the course and customer satisfaction. Hope to see you again on the course in the future!
