Crooked Cat at Orange County National
Played On 01/24/2017Must play but not on PGA Golf Show Demo Day
I booked this round on Golfnow and paid the higher price for the the 4 and half star rating. Worth every penny. Great course, great condition, great staff! Unfortunately, this was the PGA Golf Show Demo Day and Orange National hosted it. It took me less than 10 minutes to get to the course but an hour to navigate the festivities, thousands of people, and general chaos. HOWEVER, it was well managed and organized. They may consider closing the courses during this type of event. Crooked Cat is amply named. The front nine will lull you into a false sense of security. The back nine is extremely challenging. Greens were consistent throughout and generous driving area in the fairways. Do not play this one first during your stay or you will be spoiled with the other tracks in the area (that you can get on worth the money)! Driving range was closed so no warm up. Figured this was due to Demo Day.
Harmony Golf Preserve
Played On 01/23/2017Windy Central Florida Golf Experience
Booked on Golfnow which had a 4 star rating for this course. I would agree with that rating. This is a solid, secluded, golf experience. It took me about an hour to get there from the Celebration, FL area where I was staying. Well worth the travel for the value paid. Staff greeted us and there was no issue checking in or moving on with the round. The course is mature and above average in condition. The greens were fair but somewhat inconsistent. Fairways were generous. We were fortunate to have a local who lived there play in with us. He was able to to give advice which helped a lot. I recommend this track and would go back.
Mystic Dunes Golf Club
Played On 01/21/2017Good layout but needing upgrading
First time I played this course. Staying at the Resort. Staff and management were very friendly and accommodating. They pointed out that the course was not in the best shape and there is residential construction immediately adjacent to the course. I was able to play in with other golfers and enjoyed the camaraderie that developed. The course is a challenging test but conditions of the fairways and greens are just on the verge of average. The driving range was closed so no warm up prior to my initial traveling round. The range was scheduled to re-open on January 25th. It was worth what I paid but nothing special. Interested to see how the upgrading goes. They have a lot to work with.
Fairfax Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2015A Lush Round in Oklahoma
Course conditions are exceptional even though it got hit with 5.5 inches of rain in one afternoon last week. Very playable and challenging from the Blue Tees. GolfLogix still had the old #18 on the GPS so that was some annoyance. Great golf experience. Definitely will return!
Crane's Bend at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 05/01/2015Fun & theraputic frustration
Awe yes. The short game challenge. Those par threes that look so easy just grind your nerves to get on the green. Then the putting that rolls so true to just burn the lip. Plus an island par 3 that is generous but exciting. 6 par threes and 3 par fours. The par fours should help the score but their nuances can bite. We played it three times and the third time around was our best scores. Great fun, only lost two bets....
The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 04/29/2015Palmer at his best
Great golf experience. Generous driving reception but think through the approach. Do not forget to get pin locations and play them. If there is wind figure club and a half minimum on the approaches over water. Green are sneaky quick but roll true. Do not rush any putt or else you will add a stroke to your score. On #18 play it to the right or find a double on your card. Enjoy. We did!
Surrey Hills Country Club
Played On 11/28/2014Windy challenge
The day after Thanksgiving and it was windy in Oklahoma. The course was in excellent condition for this time of year with lots of dormant burmuda. The greens were a tad slick and the wind made them treacherous. Fair but tricky. Had to wait for a cart to start but not a problem. Pace was great once we got around a group of learners who tried to go off early. This course is a must play in Oklahoma.
The Golf Club at Cimarron Trails
Played On 10/01/2014Best grass I have seen on this track.
We drove an hour and 10 minutes to reach this course and make our 10:28 tee time. They have just punched the greens and sanded which is normal for this time of year. This was probably my 5th time to play the Golf Club and I was shocked at the improvement of grass quality on the tee boxes and fairways. The sandy greens are always a little frustrating but those will heal. I played the Blue tees. Good challenge and great course for risk/reward shots. Staff was friendly and that added to a great golf experience. I will definitely return.
The Pointe Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2014Branson Golf
Found 74 degree weather in Branson mid July for this round. Course is in really good condition and the staff was friendly. Lot if shot variety common to this area. Putting was consistent and the tee boxes were level. Good experience. Better than I expected for the locale. I will play it again in future visits.
Choctaw Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/12/2014Course is in great shape
Played on a cool, windy, and rainy day. Strange weather this time of year. Better than average grass in the fairways, greens in great shape. Still a lot of dirt patches which we took relief from. Carts were marginal and had to switch one out. Friendly staff. As good as it gets for the price we paid ($13). I recommend this course!
Crimson Creek Golf Course
Played On 12/2/2013Greens rolled excellent.
Great weather for December and a good golf course for a great price through Golfnow. Dormant bermuda fairways, moderate rough, and marginal tee boxes blend together for a great time of golf. I played the white tees which were short but you still had to hit the shots. Front nine has some notable water hazards while the back nine surrounds the El Reno lake. Small clubhouse with a good restaurant top it off. I highly recommend the track.
Shadow Hills Golf Club
Played On 8/3/2013Great views and scenery
Shadow Hills is a must play in this scenic
Canon City, CO location. The course was
well maintained and picturesque. Generous
driving area and fair greens. Water features
came into play along with strategic bunker
locations. The course had hosted a local
fundraising tournament prior to our tee time.
The driving range is rough but adequate. I
recommend this course if you are within a
100 miles. Worth the trip!
Coffee Creek Golf Club
Played On 7/24/2013Good layout with challenging greens.
Course condition was exceptional. Good layout and fun to play. Cart trails only on the front nine due to rain day prior. 90 degree rule on the back nine. Greens are championship burmuda (I think) which was a change in this area. I highly recommend this course especially for the $25 deal I got on Golfnow!
Hidden Trails Country Club
Played On 7/5/2013Mature course with large trees.
Good golfing experience. Driving range was closed due to a broken water line which was being worked on. A number of trees are damaged and in need of trimming due to severe weather in May and June. Staff was friending and attentive.
Westwood Park Golf Course
Played On 5/31/2013Good course to walk and enjoy.
Played from the tips. It was in great shape. Greens rolling very smooth. Wind was howling which increased the difficulty. Got a discounted fee thru Golfnow at the past minute. Staff was very friendly . Good experience!
Winter Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/16/2012A great layout and golfing experience. Friendly staff.
This golf course design is the best in the Oklahoma City metro area that is open for public play. Great visual vistas from tee to green. Good use of water and sand without taking away the ability of the average golfer to score. Generous driving area and big undulating greens. The greens were not perfect and probably 3 had spots that affected the roll of the ball. Some fairways showed signs of worms which I reported. Had the look of coming back from a long, hot Oklahoma summer. Great driving range, putting practice clock, chipping area, decent clubhouse. This is a course you want to take your golf buddies to experience.
Philtorrance,
Thank you for the nice comments. Yes the greens our Champion Bermuda. We are very happy that we installed them in 2011. They just keep getting better. I hope to see you at the course more often.
