Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 02/18/2020Enjoyable round
In theory, it was suppose to rain most of the afternoon, but it didn't. Others may have chosen not to play, but it was really quite nice. We only saw one other person on our round, so the pace of play was great. It was a little wet which meant cart path only. Cupp is not an easy course to play, so I would not recommend it to handicaps higher than 15 or so. Some nice challenges in playing this course.

New ownership and you can see that they're doing renovation to the course. I can also say that they're constructing a new clubhouse and so, although things are not good now, there's a definite commitment to make things better for the whole golfing experience. There are brand new gas powered carts, but the course is in rather poor condition. My hope is that the new owners are rewarded in the future for their efforts now. We'll see how things go.
Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
Played On 01/09/2018Better shape than I thought
It had been a week since the snow and ice storm hit and many hours of below freezing temps, but I thought the course was in better shape than I thought it would be. The greens were soft, medium speed and putted true. Traps were well maintained. Enjoyable round.
Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 01/24/2017Wonderful time
Dolphin Head is the crown jewel of the Brown Group courses around Hilton Head. For January, the course was in great shape although the damage by Hurricane Matthew is very evident. There are very few straight putts on the greens so if putting is a problem, this course isn't for you. This is a shotmaker's course and I really enjoyed the challenge.

I've played this course many times during our winter stay down in Hilton Head and have never, ever seen the course anywhere in such poor condition! Yes it did rain the day before, but not so hard that the course would be that soggy. It was like there were inches and inches of rain and the sprinkler system was left on during the rain. The greens were shaggy and the tees were being over-seeded. If you're a 'mudder', the conditions might not have bothered you, but it just didn't work for me. Normally I really, really enjoy playing here as everything else is great. Check the conditions before you commit. The tees will need 2-3 weeks to fill out.
Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/27/2015Where's the sand?
Although an interesting course to play, there are many traps that are in need of sand ... like that's expensive in Hilton Head? C'mon, climb down from your throne and do some maintenance on the course.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 02/26/2015Soggy!
Recent rains and cold weather affected course play. There are some beautiful holes ... and then there are the 4 'tricked up' holes ... those 90 degree doglegs where even with a GPS you're guessing on distance trying to gage the wind and no roll. Oh for a nice day to try again!
Island West Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2015Needs some tender loving care
I've played Island West several times each year the last 3 years. In my mind, this was the worst condition I've seen the course in. The traps needed work ... maybe it was the rain.
Dahlgreen Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2014Excellent condition!
Early Sept. golf can be some of the best of the season and this was the case at Dahlgreen this time. The weather was great, the pace was just over 4 hours walking and the condition of the course was excellent. This made for a wonderful Saturday on the course!
Eagle's Pointe Golf Club
Played On 3/14/2013Nice, fair course!
Great greens ... the course greens don't putt as fast as the practice green. It is very well maintained that, though challenging, is fair ... there are no 'tricked up' holes. If you get this at a reduced price, it's a bargain and a joy to play.
Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 2/21/20135-and-a-half hours ... yikes!
Nice course but we waited on EVERY shot! This is not a course to take beginners or limited skilled players ... there's just too much trouble for them to get into. If I knew we could play it in a little over 4 hours, I'd jump at the chance, but if this is the normal pace in February, what's it like later when it's nice and stuff is growing like crazy.?!!
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 1/16/2013Great course!
For January, the course was in great shape. The greens held and putted true. Although the fairways were 'a little thin', it was easy to hit any club on it. The pace was slower than we liked, but a lot of people were enjoying the beautiful course so it was slow. Staff was very helpful and considerate.
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes
Played On 1/14/2013Why not green fairways?
Coming out from HHI, it takes about 45 minutes to get to the course and then it isn't easy to find. The tees are kinda green, fairways and rough brown and greens are ... well green. They were fast but held your shot. It's pretty wide open, but traps can definitely come into play, especially near the greens. The price was fine, it's just a long way to drive. I don't think I'll return.
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 1/11/2013Greens lacking
The greens were lacking ... hadn't taken the overseeding yet. Pace was good, the course was green ... just not very exciting to play. Good value though.
