Oyster Reef Golf Course
Played On 11/02/2017Nice course, but difficult for the average golfer
Oyster Reef is a nice course with a beautiful view of the sound from the signature hole. Overall, the course is rather difficult playing there for the first time. Once you play it you'll understand the layout better. Keep the driver in the bag on holes with hard dog-legs as it's easy to find the woods. The average golfer will have to get used to playing from the bunkers as they are numerous. This is really a precision golf course. Play was slower than average, but the weather was nice which brought our a lot of players. The only complaint was paying $60 for a beat up set of Titleist rental clubs. My advice for travelers is to use Shipstix to ship your clubs. You'll shoot better and save money if you play more than one round in Hilton Head.
Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2017Nice public course; good value for the money
Nice course for the money. Layout is good and challenging for the first-time player. A driver can get you in trouble on some holes. Lots of water and dense woods if you miss the fairway, and the intermediate rough was high enough to hide a ball. Staff was extremely friendly. The course was a little stingy on range balls, however. The only complaint was the condition of the Titelist rental clubs ($30). Driver has a pretty good dent in it, and they looked like they've been thrown around a few times. If you're on vacation and planning to play several courses in Hilton Head, my advice is to use Shipstix to ship your own clubs. It will be less expensive and you'll play better. Overall, the course is good value for the price.
