Great holes Great views

My husband and I, visiting from New England, played this course for the first time a couple of days ago. He is a 9, and I am a 16. I am used to playing a long (for women) 5600 course with 134 slope so I thought that I could handle White Tees 5400 yards with the same slope. Not true, particularly on the back nine where I was faced with a number of long carries, many into the wind and/or uphill. One hole, #12, was impossible for me to reach the fairway. Next time I’ll play from the Golds.
That being said, we loved the course. It has great views of boulder-strewn mountains and vistas with few houses. Most sounds were birds and wind in the trees (or other golfers cursing a duck hook). No hole is dull, and the variety of elevation changes keeps the golfer on his or her toes. My husband was challenged just fine with the Blue/5764 yards; there were a number of holes which he chose not to use a driver to provide a good approach shot. Accuracy is really important and a missed green can be penalizing. Greens have challenges has well and are well-maintained.
Terrific price value. We will be back.

Fantastic setting, fantastic golf

We had a wonderful time playing this course. My husband is a 9 index and I am a 14 (female.) The front 9 is particularly spectacular, with mountain views and gorgeous old trees. The course is challenging, particularly requires mind-over-matter with good course management skills for elevation changes, wind, and alarming bunkers on one particular par 3 on the back. There are four somewhat drab holes on the back 9 but other than that each hole is different from the next. Excellent greens allow a variety of pin placements. We had beautiful weather in early April and great pace of play...perhaps everyone was off the course watching The Masters.

Our only complaint is that arriving from off the property was a total mystery where we should go with our bags as well as our car. Signage to the 10th tee headed us off in the completely wrong direction...this needs to be more clear! Also the course would benefit from a snack shack at the turn...only available lunch items were either from the cart (fine, a few pre-made sandwich options) or order from your phone to the Pub, which would slow down play too much I think.

Beautiful setting, excellent layout

My husband and I truly enjoyed our round (Canyon/Ranch) here. It was challenging for me, a female 14 handicap, from the golds which are long (over 5600) with some carrys from the tee that made me hold my breath. But doable! Canyon has particularly beautiful holes, no housing, with breathtaking elevation changes. Excellent greens which even though punched fairly recently rolled smoothly and quick. On a Wednesday afternoon we had the course to ourselves. We look forward to playing again. Highly recommend.
