Terrible pace of play and no marshal

I'm a regular golfer here, but pace of play was so bad that I won't be coming back for awhile. Why are you guys allowing 5,6, even 7 player groups? There was no marshal on the entire course. Our group tee'd off at 1:50pm and had to skip 3 holes just to finish at 7pm. The course needs to be better managed so that it is enjoyable. Too many random drunk golfers and people jumping their fences to play certain holes. Weekend golf has been atrocious since COVID started and this was no exception.

Terrible time at Poppy Ridge

GolfNow or the ProShop really needs to let golfers know (especially those who can only play weekends) when there are tournaments happening the same day you're playing. We tee'd off as a 3some at 2:45p and sundown was at 7:15p which is 4 and half hours to complete the round and we only managed to play 14 holes due to a high school/college tournament or practice in front of us. Since we couldn't finish, we called the club house asking for a rain check or something, but was rudely told that "we can't do anything for you". What kind of customer service is that? You would think as the flagship course for the NCGA that they would value NCGA members more.

There was no marshal in sight and even the college teams were taking their sweet time making practice putts while they clearly saw our group right behind them. As a former junior golf captain, I understand the importance of the game for our youth, but it should never ruin the experience for other golfers.

Truly disappointed with the day and slow play.

College tournament mid-afternoon Saturday?!

My friends and I decided to try and give this place another chance. I previously wrote a review about this course and how terrible the greens were and while the condition of the course seemed a little better this round (esp the 10th fairway), there was a college tourney on a Saturday.

We had a tee time @ 1:14PM, but actually tee'd off a little past 1:30PM. I didn't mind so much since we were the first group out after the tournament and I was expecting to finish still, but we didn't. Daylight ended around 6:40PM and we were still on Hole 15 so we had to call it. Extremely upset since we were waiting on every tee box for about 15-20 mins for the 1-2 groups of the college tourney to finish.

No warning from the pro shop whatsoever and no rain check or marshal to accommodate us after the round. Golfing in the far east bay is already hard, so I will add this to the list of "Do not play" courses.

Horrible Greens

The drive into this place is deceiving because it’s a nice looking neighborhood so you’d think the golf course would be just as nice, but it’s not . HORRIBLE GREENS...I’ve played all over the Bay Area and i haven’t seen a course where every hole you expected your putt to be bumpy and slow. The 10th hole is atrocious looking from tee to green. Pace of play was okay , but we did wait on several holes. I like the simplistic layout of the course, but it needs a lot of TLC.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry to hear your round with us was anything short of 5-stars. We hope this doesn't deter you from returning for another round soon. Thanks for playing!

Okay course, terrible pace of play...

The course was okay. Fair shape and design, BUT THE PACE OF PLAY was ridiculously slow. What's even worse is that I saw the cart lady about 5 times, but the course marshal 0 times! Me and a friend tee'd off at 12:16PM in which we were grouped up with another 2 some, but we didn't get to finish our round. The 4 some in front of us was so slow we ended up calling it due to darkness after the 16th hole.

If the course is gonna charge more than other local courses, please have someone speed up the play.

Best Course I've ever played

Played a last minute round for my birthday and although I didn't finish the round, this course is absolutely amazing. This was the best conditioned course I've ever played. I tee'd off around 1:20PM (last group) and was able to play through 15 holes. Everything about this place makes me want to play it again and experience a full 18 holes.

Amazing course

This course was amazing to play. Drove out here from the Bay Area to meet up with a coworker who's from Sacramento and I was surprised of how well maintained the fairways and greens were for this course. Tee'd off 7am and finished at 1130am. The water hazards and the greens were the biggest challenges, but if you know where to miss, this course is quite forgiving as well. Playing from the gold tees was only 6200 yrds so I took advantage of that and tried to drive the greens. Plenty of birdies to have here...will def be back!

Not what I remembered..

Decided to tee off at Hiddenbrooke after not having played it since the mid-2000's and the course has fallen off a cliff. Had a tee time at 1:33pm, but didn't tee off until well after 2:30pm because a) they had two tournaments that day and were behind and b) they ran out of carts so we had to wait for one. After teeing off, the pace was extremely slow (1-2 groups waiting on tee boxes) that we couldn't finish our round and had to head on in after the 15th hole. I'm assuming the marshal(s) were busy trying to get the tournaments going. I wish their staff or GolfNow could let us know if and how many tournaments are being played that day and the overall handicap of the people playing in these tournaments...

Secondly, the course conditions were nowhere near what I remembered playing when I was a kid. Growing up in Vallejo, this golf course was a premiere golf course hosting many LPGA tour events, but now, I'm surprised its up and running. Many bunkers around the greens had no sand and the greens were very patchy and slow. It's such a shame no investing has gone into this Arnold Palmer golf course. The layout is amazing, but playing golf here is not.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at Hiddenbrooke. Your frustration is certainly warranted and I want to assure you that improving pace of play especially with tournaments is one of our highest priorities. If you wouldn't mind giving me a call at 707-558-0330 ext.213 I would greatly appreciate your further input and hope I can make up for our miss on your last play date. Thanks again.

You get what you paid for...

Grew up in Vallejo so Mare Island is not foreign to me. This course has significantly changed since my high school years...The course layout and the addition of the back 9 (which is now the front nine) is great, but the condition of the course is definitely not the best. While you do get a few scenic views of San Pablo Bay and the old side of Vallejo, you may find yourself hitting out of a bunker with no sand. Even if their was sand, it felt more like hard dirt. The fairways and tee boxes were hit or miss. The greens were rolling pretty good, but did have a lot of divots and holes in them (I guess players or staff no longer care to fix divots in the green). Oh and the carts are the worse carts in the Bay Area lol. If they could bring someone in and fix up the course, with its design, it can be one of the better Bay Area courses.
