Wentworth Golf Club
Played On 02/09/2017Top Challenge Course
Want a course to challenge your abilities? Here it is. With water on 12 holes and sand both fairway and green placements on every hole you might think this challenging enough. No! As they say at the course - "right is wrong", you must be accurate of the tees. If you are a slicer, double the challenge. Loved this course!! The layout is great, doglegs, zig zags, layup shots and positioning all come into play. The greens were the best we played this year. (Winter season) I recommend Wentworth for the love of the game.
River Ridge Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2017Fun layout, challenges skills.
Our first time At River Ridge and we really enjoyed the course. Although very challenging with some narrow fairways, water on many holes and accuracy at a premium my wife loved it. Ladies tees were fair, play from the blue was again some challenging and interesting golf. For the winter time, the greens were in pretty good shape and the fairways were fine. This is a course we will definitely play again when we come to Florida.
University of South Florida Golf Course - The Claw
Played On 02/29/2016Great challenge and shot making
If you play from the tips, it's a great challenge of length, accuracy and shot making. The average player needs to play from the shorter tees to get some advantages in the course but even this is no guarantee. There is plenty of sand and water to keep you honest but more of a premium is accuracy. If you spray you are in trouble. We played in Feb. And the course needed some but overall in better shape than others we played in the area. We will definitely play here again when we visit. Really liked the course.
Tarpon Woods Golf Club
Played On 02/23/2016Course in tough shape
Although we played in winter months, this course showed more signs of wear than any we played this year. The greens were not very good, only a few were really puttable. Yes were best up. Sadly many golfers do no deposit work or reseeding. I will try course again because the layout is enjoyable and challenging. The pace of play was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2016Enjoy layout, women's tees fair.
We like this course. The staff is friendly and only once was okay slow, luckily the group causing the problem only played nine. The course has several challenging holes where shot making is a must but for the most part it is somewhat forgiving to the average player. Just enough water and sand to keep you honest.
Cherry Ridge Country Club
Played On 10/13/2015Although shorter than some - still holds challenges.
We were pleasantly surprised. The course offers a nice challenge. Several approach shots are uphill and call for complete carry. The greens were in good A course we would play again.shape, fast and several involve trying to stay below the hole for putting reasons. My wife felt the ladies tees were very reasonable.
Clearwater Country Club
Played On 02/16/2015course okay - very slow play
The course was fine, fairways easy to hit, nice bunker placement and some water in play. A high value on second shot due to green slope. If you do not stay below the hole the pits were fast going downhill. Needed heads up at some tee areas due to crossover. We had a 1:20 tee time, we were early but it took 11 minutes just to sign in. The poor starter had to also get the carts and keep the horde calm. Tee times were 1/2 hour late. We were paired with a local who told us that it is normal to be very crowded during Feb. Since the course is so reasonably priced. It took close to 6 hours to play. They should add 5 minutes to each tee time to help pace out the course. I would not choose there during busy season. The local said the pace is much better in the summer.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 12/09/2014Nice challenge
The course was in very good shape. It was not prime season so we were able to play at a great pace. The course was not as hard as I anticipated but still challenging. We had a wonderful day.
Fox Creek Golf & Racquet Club
Played On 11/11/2014Fun course some real challenging holes
This course is fun to play. It is not real difficult but a challenge particularly if you do not get off the tee well. There are several blind shots where direction and distance come into play and several holes involve second shots over water. Like all courses playing from the blue adds to the length and difficulty. I like the shot making needed to score well.
I recommend Fox Creek as a great round of golf.
Mastick Woods Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2014Improved
First time back in a while, course conditions have really improved. Course not long, only nine holes, but you can get into trouble. Great for working on your iron shots. Greens are tricky to read as to direction and speed, this helps put more of a challenge into the course.
Shared the course with soccer-golf, I enjoyed it. Watching them play the holes just added to the experience.
The workers were friendly and accommodating. I will play again.
Walk In The Park at Emerald Woods Golf Courses
Played On 08/08/2014Quick play 3 hours 28 min.
Course was in nice shape. We teed off on time and was able to play quickly. Greens were good.
Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club
Played On 7/17/2013Game management and challenges
If you don't like traps, side hill lies, going over water and some narrow approach shots then do not play here. Our group found this course to be the best of all we played while in St. Petersburg area. It had holes where just blasting away did not work, you had to manage your game for length and placement.(we had at least one person at each tee box/ b/w/r) Bunkers made approach shots more challenging. Several greens were tiered yet putted rather true even in this off season for FL.
The women's tees were fair and although she faced several challenging shots my wife loved this course. We will play Chi Chi's again. The off season cost was fabulous but I believe the course is worth the cost.
Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club - Panther/Bobcat Course
Played On 7/10/2013Several Holes really make the course
The course was in nice shape, we played 2 of the 3 nines and the pace was very nice. It was our first time there and knowing the layout better would have helped with layup shots and some corners. Several holes required club management and flying the water, these of course added to the challenge. Most fairways were open and forgiving. My son is a big hitter and could let out the shaft on most holes and then use a more controlled club on some. The women's tees were more than fair and my wife enjoyed the round very much.
We really enjoyed our experience and all three of us would gladly play the course again.
Apollo Beach Golf & Sea Club
Played On 7/4/2013Course has a nice lay out.
Due to the extreme wet we had to make some course changes. However under normal conditions the course would be a nice challenge.
