Baywood Greens
Played On 09/01/2017Great value
Of all the courses in the MD-DE beaches area, Baywood does the best job of consistently providing good conditions, good service and a really nice day of golf. It starts when someone takes your clubs and puts them on a cart and you go to a really nice range to warm up. Then the starter escorts you to the first tee and gives you information on the cart rules and advice about the tees and course yardage. When you play, you will notice that the fairways are tight, the rough is consistent and it isn't a rough around the edges. The traps are maintained and in good condition. All that for $75 at 1:30pm. A number of courses down here could take a lesson from Baywood. No wonder Baywood was sold out through late afternoon. They seem to really care about providing a good experience.
Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club - Grizzly/Kodiak Course
Played On 09/02/2016Wet, Wet. Wet.
This course is extremely convenient for me and I really like the layout, etc. The condition of the course however, leaves a lot to be desired. It was as wet as I have probably ever seen a course in spite of the fact that they have had little to no rain in the ten days before we played. Some fairways were so wet, and not necessarily in low spots, that drives would plug. In the center of the fairway. Others (#9 Grizzly) clearly had some severely wet spots yet they had run mowers right through them and created huge ruts in the fairway. The approach to #1 Grizzly was so wet that a well struck seven iron plugged in the turf. Ironically, the range was not on the mats for the first time in my memory. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find any grass on a range that clearly suffered from the same lack of attention as the rest of the course. When you are getting $100+ for a round you have to do better. In a day and age where the USGA is promoting fast and firm there really is no excuse for such poor practices. It is a shame because this could be a really top place to play. Make one wonder if the owners (Freeman Cos.) or the management company (Troon Golf) are paying attention.
