Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 02/25/2023Exo credit more
Nice day but overall felt let down. I knew it was a course without much length and you need to be accurate off the tee. But not cheap and you arrive having to pay extra for range balls . Range was worn mats and no tees. Pace not bad at start but several par 3’s, a short par 4, and poorly placed cart girl started slowing things down. Group in front of us actually stopped for drinks after 17th green and made us wait on par 3 tee. Classy.
Very few holes where you let a driver rip, and very little room on sides fairways that are inbounds. Course conditions ok and views are memorable, especially on elevated front 9 holes. Hard pressed to think I will hurry back at these rates.
Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 02/21/2023Nice alternative to Scottsdale
Second visit this month. Pace of play better than first round. Greens and tees in good shape; hard greens means not a lot of ball marks.
Pace pretty much at 4 hours.
Felt price of Pepsi from cart girl a but much ($4).
Like the course and the rating is probably a bit better than a 4 star.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 02/13/20239 holes and a beer
Did 3 pm rate that came with a beer ( or soda). Fine print states it has to be a domestic beer (not an Arizona brand). Tees, fairways, and greens in nice shape. Pace ok but slow couple in front of us and rangers did nothing. Bunkers are tough; many are high faced and some are being improved. Practice area pretty good. Range with nice grass area. Overall was better than expected after reading other reviews.
Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2023Good condition. Slow guys in front of us.
Got a reasonable rate on GolfNow before Super Bowl/ WM bump up. Greens and tees in good shape. Course underrated. Range not great; not much grass.
Four guys ahead of us were a hole behind after 2 holes. I mentioned it at the turn and pro shop did not feel an open hole was too bad, but did send a ranger out to get them going. . Luckily we got to pass the two groups ahead of us after 12 as they were flirting with cart girl. So total pace of play was better than it might have been.
Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2023Fun but slowish.
I like the course, especially with a Golf Now rate. Fair layout. Also forgiving for women. Greens and tees in very solid shape.
Group in front of us had open hole ahead of them after 2 holes. At the turn the pro shop said one hoke not that bad but at least they sent a ranger out to speed them up. Turns out we were able to pass two groups who decided to hang out with cart girl on 13th hole.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 02/20/2021Nemacolin Woodlands Resort - Mystic Rock Course
Played On 09/14/2020Great course, but not at 5 hours
Played both courses during father-son getaway. Nice challenging layout; not too gimmicky. Rain previous day softened greens tho lengthened the course. Group in front of us were horrible as far as time management. They just did not care. Yes, it is a resort but they were too focused on ordering Fireball from cart girl (who seemed to always show up and slow the pace). Did not take long for a 1+ Hole gap to open up. At end of round, which was a few minutes short of 5 hours, the attendant was almost dismissive when I asked about whether they used Rangers (they do not), and said a 5 hour round is typical of a resort course. Wow. So disappointing after we got first tee time the day before on Shepherd’s Rick and finished just within 3 hours without rushing. Tough ending for a good trip.
The Woodlands Course at Whittaker
Played On 06/18/2020Browner than expected
Always a challenging layout.. Able to tee off early and our twosome played in just about 3 hrs. Course not too crowded. Concerned about all the brown tees and fairways. Some holes looked like low end muni. Was told by cart guy course was not able to do proper early season maintenance due to covid in MI. Some rain would help. Greens not too bad, even with off color. Sadly I would not hurry back until things improve.

Meadow Valley Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2020Fast and fun
Arrived early for 11:03 am tee time and was told my wife and I could go off early. Did 18 in 2 hrs 26 mins, without hurrying. Great pace. Second visit to MV; much better without hurricane winds last month. Only complaints are lack of restrooms and no prior warning about shortened 7th hole due to construction.
Just wanted to clarify there are nice restrooms located in the pro shop and men/womens restrooms on the course between 3 & 12. I do know there was a time this summer that they had an emergency situation with the restrooms located in the pro shop but there were others available.
Meadow Valley Golf Club
Played On 05/07/2020Nice first visit, other than idiots in front of us.
Enjoyed first visit to MV. Long but pleasant drive for us. Not sure if Club has any marshals in noN/pandemic times. Group in front of us was basically a joke, behind a hole after two holes. . Most of day they were 1.5-2 holes behind. We waited a lot. Oddly enough the total round was not bad but does not excuse these idiots. I am not scratch, but looked like lot of golfers went off wrong tees (green instead of white). MV could use a tee box around 6000 yards so weaker players do not go off green tees at 6300+. Course was in good shape save for some work on a few bunkers, though wind was brutal. Greens were true and fairly fast. If management reads these please note I will be back but will not play that foursome again.
Foothills Golf Club
Played On 01/29/2020Nice change of pace
After several rounds at high fee courses Foothills offered decent value for money. Not pristine conditions but fairways pretty green for most part and greens, though thin compared with other local courses, at least ran true and consistent. Pace of play better than expected given we were a three some following a foursome of not very strong players. Got thru in 4h 5mins. Would go back for the value in light of fact I have to pay two greens fees.
Elbel Park Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2018A bit disappointed
Have played Elbel through the years but had not been there for 2-3 years. I agree with several comments that the condition of the course is really a let down. Any review that says it is a 5 star course is a planted report or done by an insider. Greens were decent, though spongy and a bit slow. Tee boxes were pretty bad. Lots of turf damage on pretty much every hole. I have always liked the layout and the potential for closing it for a season and giving it a fresh start. I was a single who booked online ( $25 for 4:40p tee time). Not sure why it allowed me to book a time during league play. Starter suggested I go off 11 so I jumped around a bit. A bunch of singles and twosomes were moving along, though I did notice a few very slow groups and a few yahoos on the course. Will not hurry back, sadly.
The Links at Stono Ferry
Played On 04/04/2018A bot of a let down
Had read so many positive things about Stono Ferry, but the experience left us a little flat. Staff was flexible in that they let us move our tee time up due to predicted p.m. thunderstorms. Starter and ranger were great/friendly guys, and we even saw the ranger out on the course, which seems rare these days. Zipped through first 5 holes but then caught up to threesome in no hurry and who looked to be drinking in late morning. Luckily they stopped after 9. A few neat holes on back nine by the water. Some picturesque vistas. Fairways pretty thin, and greens spotty at best. Course conditions had been built up in previous reviews. Dormant grass also gave impression of a ratty course. Range was almost all dirt. Not horrible experience, but we felt price was more than a few dollars more than it should have been .
The River Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2018Masters Special
Played day before attending Masters, so had to pay higher price for playing a local course, which I understand but fee was a bit higher than the experience warranted. Paid $175 per head, which did include lunch. Course in Ok shape, not spectacular. We often forget there is a lot of dormant grass this time of year, which to Northerners looks like dead grass. Not a lot of memorable holes. Staff was accommodating insofar as they let us go off earlier than planned so we could get ahead of some groups getting ready to tee off. So we did play fairly quickly. Not a negative experience, and the practice area was a solid one, but I just felt a bit taken advantage of with the price when all was said and done.
Not a lot of memorable holes?
How about 6 with the two tiered green, or 9 a short par 5 with a killer green, or 12, 15, 16 and 17, let alone the killer 18th
I agree, Masters week is ridiculous,, We stayed there and played 5 days for $600
The Woodlands Course at Whittaker
Played On 06/03/2017Started strong; but disastrous finish
Good start; teed off on time and moved along at the start..by back 9 things bogged down, as we later realized two groups had formed an 8-some, a heavy drinking, vulgar-mouthed group (one going shirtless)..noticed vomit on one tee box..not positive it was from them but pretty sure it was..I get it, summer is here and they will attract vacationers in from Chicago...but holes 15,16,17 took an hour and never any rangers at this course.. skipped 18 rather than have round go over 5 hours..gave both barrels to two separate staff members at pro golf, and wrote note to the course GM that evening, and never heard back from anyone (this is why I am writing this)..too bad, as course was in good shape...but driving 75 miles round trip and having this poor customer experience leaves a sour taste in my mouth.. turns out the golfer who plays at a good pace, fixes divots and ballmarks and follows the course rules is not their target customer..
Thank you for leaving this feedback. We apologize for the behavior of the guests that were playing ahead of you and we are genuinely sorry that a ranger didn't come and address the issue while you were there. We hope that you come back, we can assure you'll have a better experience.
Grand Cypress - North/South
Played On 05/29/2017Two Nines-Two Experiences
Played South/East nines on a warm and humid day. Overall a good day, and playing as a twosome with my wife made things seem slow since we were behind a threesome playing behind a foursome . But actually got around in about 4 hours..Big complaint was South nine's greens had been recently plugged and greens were a bit bumpy. No problems with a course getting aerated, but I do feel price adjustments should be made.. At a minimum the websites should indicate when a course has been or will be aerated.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 03/13/2017Almost perfect. but...
Enjoyed our afternoon at McDowell Mountain. Course in very good shape; no major complaints. Had issue with paying what is typically a three figures greens fee then having to pay extra for range balls...Stupid. Service in the patio grill was ridiculously slow..wound up hurriedly banging a few range balls and running to 1st tee.. Played in about 3h 50m, almost unheard of today.. power lines take away from the views and nice backdrops...
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 03/11/2017So close to a great day..
Well worth drive from Scottsdale. ., course in great shape.. pretty desert and mountains backdrop.. good range and practice facilities.. scores would have been higher except for too many ball marks on greens and countless unrated bunkers.. I can play a cheap muni in Indiana if that's what I want.. lots of guys playing 36 with liquid lunch between.. my hunch is there a relationship to the horrible bunker conditions.. no rangers moving along play either..travel Buddies is a great concept, unless you are playing behind them...
Hi, we appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing The Legacy Golf Club.
