Tight with houses

If you like to play a course lined with houses on both sides then this is the course for you . I heard more balls hitting houses and saw more players going into backyards to retrieve them than I ever imagined . Absolutely no room for error here , and that's leads to very slow play . Course itself needed some TLC badly .

Don't Bother

We had 4 free rounds , but there was only two of us so our plan was to play both courses . We played the East course first and were so turned off by everything that I gave away the remaining 2 rounds to someone I met in the parking lot . That should say it all . 5 plus hour round , stuck behind a foursome that could care less they were holding up the course . I told a range this and he didn't even bother to saying anything to them .

Played all 3 - 9's

We played all 3 of the 9 hole courses at Sandpiper Bay , actually came back for another round , it was that nice . Everything was very good , from course conditions , driving range , pace of play , even on course beverage cart . One of the starters came to our car to welcome us and get our bags . That is exactly what you expect when you come to an area known to be a golf course destination . Worth the ride if you are staying in Myrtle Beach , just take Rt 17 north . We played the Barefoot Fazio course the day after Sandpiper and were totally disappointed by the condition of the course and people that worked there . Put Sandpiper Bay on your list if you need a course to play , Piper & Bay 9's were the better two .

Give it a chance

Beachwood being right on the highway might give you a bad impression , but give the course a chance. Once you start your round you won't even know the highway is there . Course was in great shape and very reasonable with great people . We had no complaints at all .

Not up to parr

I asked around other Myrtle Beach courses I played for a real nice course to play , I get several tips and picked Barefoot Fazio course . We paid $145 that was no problem at all , but not for what we got . We had 45 minutes to tee time and figured we'd go to the range , you have to take a shuttle to get there, problem was the shuttle didn't come back until 8 minutes before are tee time . When I complained about that one could care less .Now we are rushing to the tee , my muny in New Jersey is more organized. Starter sends us to the first tee and the foursome in front of us hasn't even teed off yet , because the group if front of them just did. Then the foursome behind us comes up , 6 carts now sitting there. That was the pace of the day . Course itself has a very nice layout but was all brown and dried out , overall condition was very disappointing . I met one of the members after the round and asked him about the conditions and he said they have been complaining about that for awhile . He asked what we paid and was shocked they charged us $145 the shape the course is in .. He actually apologized and invite us back as his member guest for $60 but we were flying out the next day . If you're looking for a real nice course around Myrtle Beach the others recommended were Tidewater , Glen Dornoch and TPC Mytrle Beach , try those before going to Barefoot . But if you go to Barefoot , Greg Norman's Grill restaurant was very good .

Course Needs TLC

For this time of year you should expect the course to be coming back to good shape , but it seemed overplayed and worn out . A couple of the greens have dead spots and sand filled gashes on them , fairways had empty divots all over them. These should be growing back now not looking like the end of the season . The 9th green was under heavy watering while we approached it and when we picked up our balls they were covered with black stinky manure smelling mud , if that's needs to be done then at least have something to wash your hands off near by , I used a puddle by the grill station .

BRING LOTS OF WATER !!!

Played here on Saturday the 10th, sweltering hot day into the mid 90's, with oppressive humidity , the starter warned us of swarms of gnats all over the course , he even had large cans of bug spray for anyone wanting it , on the putting green they were in your eyes , ears ,everywhere. Course was busy and the starter never bothered to do his job and send groups off at a descent pace , he was too busy on his phone talking about a job interview he had , so groups were on top of each other . Worst thing was there was no water anywhere on the course , no beverage cart either , on a day when it would have been a real money maker besides the fact that it was badly needed with the heat . When I asked why the cart was not out I was told the person didn't show up for work . The course itself was in fair shape , earlier in the season it was in very good shape . I blame all of this on bad management , somethings like the weather and the bugs (maybe) are out of your control , but to not even have water on the course on a day like this is all on management . After reading several other reviews the lack of water is a constant , absolutely no excuse for that .

Badly aerated greens , watering during play & hole closed

We know that greens need to be aerated but you should tell players before they drive an hour to get there , I called the pro shop twice to ask a couple of question since we never played here before and they never said a word about aerating. This was over an hour drive for us . Even as we paid at the pro shop not a word , the starter told us as we checked in , but he never told us that one green was closed with a temporary flag and 8" hole in the fairway , and the sprinklers were going full blast and covering the temporary flag ? Greens were un-puttable , tee boxes neglected as well as most of the course, this was all from lack of taking care of the course . The layout of the course was good but its a shame they don't take care of it , if the city of Allentown owns it they need some help running it . We played 10 miles away at Bethlehem Municipal two weeks earlier and the course was in excellent shape with beautiful greens , so they cannot blame the weather at Allentown . Get your act together Allentown or at least give a warning of what to expect.
