Stay away!

Yes, it’s Covid. Yes, there is a dought. But this course and facilities have gone way down. Grass less tee boxes and sparse fairways - this course had its day. Word has it the south course is just as bad. There are plenty of other better course in the area. It looks like they are or are about to go belly up.

Worth the drive!

First of all The Oaks in Somersworth NH is about 1.25 hours north of Boston. So plan accordingly. Secondly- It's worth it. Super layout (and yes, walkable) Multiple tee's make it fun ( don't play the tips- unless you're single digit caps) You can play a mix of them also! ( I wish more courses did that!) The conditions of the course were excellent- The greens..oh my the greens are fast and hard- so be aware! THE best range I've ever been to at a public course to get you ready for your round also- and a great 19th hole! Why go to The links at Outlook (same drive time, terrible staff and conditions and quirky layout) when you can go here and have a much better day. Their sister course is Candia Woods- another fav or mine. ENJOY!!!

Great conditions, Great lay out...but.....

Trull is a great track, great location, and fun to play. Very walkable and they do a great job of keeping the beverage carts out there (they are noisy, however). You'll have a great mix of hard, easy and quirky holes (10-12). One thing you will definitely notice, THE GREENS- they are fantastic, but almost too fast and can lead to some unfair pin positions due to the speed. Now I'm all for fast greens- but our round took 5.25 hours why? So many groups in front of us 3-4 putting greens resulting in slow play (granted we watched the group in front of us putting EVERYthing out -which in some cases lead to longer waits (can we all pick up after triple bogie). Not sure if Trull wants to slow their greens down slightly but might help speed up the play.

Customer Service Issues

While you will enjoy the layout at Black Swan be aware: They have a serious lack of customer services and friendliness at this course. If you are not a "member" you will be MADE to purchase and ride before 12 noon on the weekends. (which they say is to quicken pace- a lie.) and you will be overly Marshalled even when you are not out of position. You can tell they are going through tough times because they need to squeeze as many people on the course as possible. You have better choices farther up 95 in the Portsmouth NH area- god forbid you go to the even worse Far Corners Zoo up the street. So while the course in enjoyable- beware of the nasty attitudes of the staff (the starters are very nice btw the only exception. The golf shop and marshalls are NOT what customer services is all about. The Head pro, when contacted said "Hey I just work here?" WOW....

Issues...Issues....

It was our group's first time there and we had a coupon for $49 with a cart...they accepted our coupon..more on that later.
The course is a hour from Boston and their are a number of other course choices in the area...never tried the Links. Upon arrival and check in we came out to find many groups waiting on the tee and 8 minute tee times- not good for a course with a reachable par 5 to start and a very busy day. We where delayed 30 Mins and our round lasted over 5 hours. The second issue: the condition of the bunkers: terrible they have not been maintained all spring and when asked they said it was a bad spring: Guys- other courses at least rake the bunkers...seems like they are having maintenance issues here and there around the course. After the round I address this with management via email. Needless to say they did not "do what was in the best interest of the customer" by acknowledging the issues- instead they wanted to debate. Needless to say we wont be back. Oh- and they told use we had a special price that day- I told when we used a coupon anyway and never mentioned on their website they punched the greens. If you read my other review here you will see i'm very fair, but in this case they seem to be not customer friendly and pump alot of money into advertising, Too bad they can't make 10 minute tee times and maintain their bunkers...there are better places to play in the area- Old Marsh, Sanford and The Ledges to name a few. I'd skip the Links.

08/28/16 update

Please note: the greens have been aerated (large hole), top dressed and not cut. I would not play on these for 10 days. after 9/11, I was not told the other day, paid full price and received no value. Usually the greens are great, but I guess they do what they have to.

Great views! leave your driver in your bag

Yes, leave your driver in your bag or hit it straight! Typical New England mountain course. Don't let the yardage fool you: the ball travels well and you have uphill and down hill lies. The course was in great shape, Green aeration was done a week ago. Pay for the yardage book and pay attention- lots of red stake and white stake off the tees (and elevation) Staff is great and the 19th Hole is great if you can sit out on the deck (beware the Yankee fans!) This course is unwalkable !

9 Hole Heaven!

What a great, fun course! You can play this course as a regular course or as a par 3. If you're looking for a unique experience you'll love it here. Fun lay out, great greens and a river that runs around the course. No cell service!!!! Between Killington and Sugarbush plan on a under 2 hour round. If you don't take your golf too seriously you will find this course awesome- Vermont Cute!

Tons of fun to play!

What a fun layout! This short but very gamey Old Donald Ross layout did not disappoint. Short par 4s- long par 3s and reachable par 5s. Bring your buddies' and stay at the resort- but don't expect updated lodging- the only draw back along with the range being across the street. We found the course to be in excellent condition.

Not a hard drive from Boston- it's about 30 mins or so north of Portland with plenty of other courses in the area. Bring your bathing suit there is a pool at the club house (just act like you're staying there! A perfect way to cool off after a round!). Also make sure your pick up the free course guide before you play here there are lots of tilting in the greens and fairways.

Great layout. Great value. But.....

Stonebridge is out so the way and somewhat off the beaten path which is great. Great layout with par 35/37 - pay attention to the pin guide they provide on the score card. This course is a monster of a test from the back tees. Most everyone plays from the gold tees and hence the unfavorable rating I gave the conditions: the 6300 yard gold tees are very chewed up to the point of embarrassment. Coupled with a couple varying speed greens makes SBCC suspect with its overall conditions. This was not always the condition with the course. Maintenance is becoming a issue I hope it's just short term. This course is surprisingly walkable but a cart is recommended for most- it's not like Crotched MTN or Canterbury woods where you need a cart. Nice deck and 19th hole. On our regular tour we have SBCC is currently out of the regular rotation of courses we play due to the condition of the tees and greens.

Souhegan performs!

Ah Souhegan! They should call it Sandhegan with its 86 bunkers. Don't get me wrong she's a great layout and fun to play.

Most of the holes are pine tree lined which reminds you of North Carolina golf. You do have to keep a eye out for white stakes on several hole due to houses.

This is a much better course than the Overlook- better routing and better greens. Plus their practice area is superior. Get there early to hit balls. Their pro shop is above average and has nice prices.

The only thing holding me back on better ratings is the amount of maintaining the course needs with turf conditions- due to the pine trees.

Also-we played on a Friday and the pin positions where extremely challenging for most average golfers. Hint- ok to do that but not Friday-Sunday this slows down play.

Souhegan is and will always be on our rotation of courses to play!

Are you slipping CWCC?

Please please see my prior review- I do love this course but today was a different story.

1) They ran out of carts and we needed to wait for one (and clean it our selves). It appears that 12 carts are broken.

2) The starter: He was not a very good representation for the club- not very customer friendly. Maybe he was having a bad day.

3) Your starter ( the same one from above #2) was not sending groups off at appropriate tee times- the result a very crowded and back up course.

4) Please see the picture of the cup on the 14th hole. I called the pro shop 7 times at 5pm on Sunday no answer! Hmmm everyone go home? Many someone could of come out and fix it?

Are you guys slipping????

I agree that CW needs two things: a competent starter and visible and proactive rangers.

Pace-of-play and too many golfers not knowing (or caring?) about proper golf etiquette are plaguing golf, and have been for a while. Good rangering would go a LONG way toward alleviating both symptoms.

Unfortunately, most Northeast golf courses fail in this regard, and it costs them at least one star in ratings. IMO.

A "Hidden" Gem!

Shhhhhh...The course is probably the best condition 9 hole public access course in the Northeast! Tee boxes and greens are pure. Layout is fun and forgiving ( except the tee shot on #2!). Don't tell anyone about this place.

A great practice area (maybe let your grass range tee area grow more).

The staff could be a little more friendly but..you go to play there right?

Getting better!

After a 3 million dollar renovation in 2015 has DCC is getting better everyday. The greens are in great shape but have a couple different ones due to the renovation. The course is hilly but walkable especially the back 9.

This course has probably the greatest 19th hole in NH if not New England : The back deck is infamous especially later in the week.

Sooooooo Worth it!

Canterbury is located right off I-93 about 15 min north of Concord NH. Great if you are going to or from the White Mountains/Lakes Region. The course has little local competition, but it's location makes it easily accessible. CWCC has great views and it so playable from any of the tee markers. Simple amenities- but well maintained. Very memorable holes that play tough but fair. Highly recommended. Enjoy your day here. I did!!

Elevation changes may make it a difficult walk for some, for sure. But the green-to-tee distance is really only an issue in a few cases (11 to 12, 14 to 15). Granted, tees and greens aren't as close as old-time courses' tees and greens. But other than 2 or 3 instances, the walks aren't bad. IMO.

Hot day- great price

We found a great price on golf advisor for 18/person with a cart! It's a long drive but a fun course to play- you will need a cart I walk all the time. This course is not walkable. It's quirkie with small greens and small canted fairways. Play to the 150 markers from the tee. Play the whites for fun blues if you're under a 12 cap. Since it's a mountain course we did find some winter damage but it should be great by the fall.

Links style course in SNH!

Great course- former turf farm and a links style course with no ocean in sight! Long but flat and very walkable- if the wind blows this course has teeth. The back 9 has a serious set of holes that will keep your driver in hand. I've played this course from both blues and whites and if you're a not a single digit cap stay on the whites. The course can also be set up very difficult with pin positions in tough to get to spots due to the wavy link style greens. Score on the front but save your best drives for the back!

My first time playing here - I play many if the southern nh courses and wanted to try it. While the course has a nice layout the routing is strange Holes 7- 9 notably.
We where sent off the first tee (10th) and it was not an enjoyable experience. The starter didn't pace the groups leaving us with long waits while a ranger was no where to be seen- result a 4:40 hour round on a Friday.
The next was their greens- while the have grass and where punched in the past week the greens where variable and very bumpy. To the point it made putting a guessing game. My partner who has played the course before said the course has always had bumpy greens. For 42 dollars walking. Go to Souhegan or passaconaway their greens are much better!
We also had maintenance constantly working around us. I will not be going back- mostly because of the greens
