Broken Sunday

Booked a morning round hoping to finish at a decent time. Unfortunately, we waited on every single shot. There was an outing of 2 foursomes in front of us. Friendly staff, small clubhouse, no ranger in sight. Round finished in 5 hours and 10 minutes which is unacceptable for teeing off at sunrise. Course layout was nice it's a fairly bland course as long as you aim where u can see.. trying to cut corners on this course gets a little bit tricky. Greens were bumpy which could be due to the outing in front of us. I fixed a minimum of 2 pitch marks on each green I stepped on. The bunkers are dirt not sand, most were in terrible shape and not raked. some had rocks the size of baseballs. They had some vandalism from the night on a couple greens but they dealt with it appropriately.. needless to say better options to play around the same area..

Thank you for golfing with us! We understand the pace of play is very important to a good day of golf and we apologize for the inconsistency.

Munic track, retirement home pace

A muni track nothing more nothing less. Pace of play was horrendous. I went there hoping for a quick round on (tuesay 10am) and what I got was the exact opposite. It took 2.5 hours to finish nine i left at the 14th hole 4+ hours after I started. I waited on almost every single shot. The group in front was patenting their own tee rituals. Not only did they take an awful lot of practice swings before the actual shot but also after the shot as well. the course was packed. In no way would I pay their regular tee time price tag. I got a golfnow deal but even then I was regretting not dishing out extra to play another course. It was recommended by a friend and it will be the last last time I take his advice. If u do catch it at a non busy day it might be a nice track but even then it's a no frills golf track. Greens and fairways were in good shape but after the 3rd hole u were too annoyed to notice.. Highways on the outskirts of the course give it a buzzing noise throughout most of the holes.

One and done

Came into the course with a eager feeling to test out a legendary architect's layout. What I found was a severe dissapointment. Maintenance was atrocious, seems like I was punished for putting the ball on the fairway, which had more craters than the moon. This problem became enhanced once you realized that the greens were patchy and very fast. I didnt mind the speed if the approach shots didn't come from the the horrible patchy conditions and only held part time. The course itself " could " be enjoyable though, with some major overhauls.. One par 3 requires a shot through power cables. Either way I won't recommend this course to anyone but if someone else is eager enough to try, the price is right (under 20$) and are out of options give it a shot maybe the conditions will improve..

It's actually the tee shot on hole #8 (the par 3 is hole#7) that you have to hit through power lines (I've hit the lines on at least 3 occasions).

Good course for good value

Played this course a few times and I don't have any complaints. Greens roll true and fairways that are as good as can be in the current hot and muggy conditions. Tee boxes were a bit worn sprayed with unreplaced divot marks(only negative).. Can be a tricky at times with the front 9 having water come into play quite often and depending on the day the wind is a factor. Great little risk/reward track. Bring an extra sleeve of balls if it's windy. 18th is geourgous hole and the epitome of the risk/reward hole. Get a decent drive off and the green is reachable in 2 if wind is not big of a factor.
The practice facilities grass range(tin cup) style, pitch and chip greens, and putting greens are all in great shape.
I recommend it especially when there's a deal on it.. Good luck.

Fantastic course intertwining through a small community

Arrived a bit late as usual so i missed my warm up range session. Clubhouse is very quaint as is the pro shop but one thing was clear that here, nothing else matters but golf. Had about 10 minutes before my tee time so i tried practicing my putting but wound up socializing half the time trying to get a feel of the course from the regulars. Little did i know that i really should of paid more attention to the putting since it became my biggest hindrance once on the course.
Starter informed us that we would be starting off on the 10th this day to due early morning maintenance on the front nine. I stood up on the tee box looked out onto the 10th and i new i would be in for a treat on this day. Originally i planned on teeing off from the tips but i decided to put my pride in its place and tried the gold tees instead. That ended up being a wise choice and pretty much the only one i'd make that day.
Gripped it and ripped it and i was off. Bunkers are in play almost every hole so shot selection and yardages are crucial. Dont be afraid to holster the driver for a couple holes to take some of the dangers away from play. I was fortunate this day and managed to hit the fairways almost at will. Still had some unfortunate bouces into bunkers but thats the game. The course is a fusion of a St. Andrews and Bethpage black. Bunkers are ameoba-like and scattered all over the course and deep in some spots so a good sand game is a necessity here. Water came into play on a few holes but avoidable. On a course this size, the lack of gps in the carts was an inconvenience and is something i believe the course should look into. I ended up trusting my phones gps app and that sufficed but not as efficient as you would like it.
Fairways were in excellent shape and the divots from shots peeled off the track like banana peels. It was a pleasure replacing the divots back into the groove since they fit perfectly. The greens were superbly fast and windy just the way i like it. Clearly getting on the green was half the battle. I would highly encourage taking your time on the green. Look each putt over from a couple angles. The pin locations were a bit difficult on this day, usually tucked away in the corners of the quite small greens. A straight putt is hard to come by around here and when they do your almost expecting a turn somewhere. Patience and a solid stroke is paramount every time.
Pace of play was on cue at about 4.5 hours. Had a slight back up on a couple holes(usually the par 5s) but that gave you enough time for introspection on the previous holes.
The pick of the litter in terms of holes for me were the driveable par 4-12th, majestic 15th (my favorite), 600+yd 6th, and the treacherous 2nd.
Id highly recommend this course too anyone and everyone that can make it down there. Drive from downtown was a nightmare but well worth it. If planning on driving from the city a car pool and navigation planning are highly advised ahead of time. If your lucky and live near the area without the hassle of highways and traffic you shouldnt think twice. Prices were reasonable, friendly and courteous service, lack of typical country club pretentiousness on top of the typically warm midwestern hospitality made this course a welcoming utopia away from the daily hustle and bustle. No doubt i will be back and the next time i will squeeze in a range session and at least 20-30 minutes on the putting green( 3 putted 7 times!!!- personal worst)

challenging+well maintained for a municipal course

I arrived a bit late for my tee time but the staff at the (quite small) proshop was courteous and helpful. I wanted to have a quick practice range session beforehand but didn''t manage to squeeze one in so I did not have a chance to check out the range..
As far as the course is concerned it was fairly well maintained being peak summer conditions I was expecting it to be in worse shape. It was fairly challenging and a plethora of dog legs awaits you. Greens were terribly slow but in good shape nonetheless. Fairways were extremely narrow so a range session before hand is recommended. The rough is challenging to say the least so keep it straight and simple is a good approach.
As far as the course is concerned its playable and fun if you remember to keep it simple. It however lacks that feeling of solace usually accompanied with golf. No matter which hole you are on reminders of modern civilization are nearby. Houses, roads and businesses line the outskirts of the course hindering any peace or mental detachment from day-day life. Which is one of the main reasons I play.
I would recommend this course to others as it does offer a fair challenge and you can get great discounts non it. As for paying full price I would pass and venture elsewhere.
