Nice people but…..

First of all, let’s preface this with we were all hit hard by the freeze this year and the entire island is still recovering. I get it. However, when we arrived and checked in, they were very nice. Check in was quick and they loaded our bags onto the carts and even had ice in the cart ice chests for us….a definite plus. Mosquitoes were horrid but that is expected as all of the rain is making it The Hunger Games for them. Pros, it was a decent layout with wide open fairways. Sand bunkers were in decent shape as well.l and the scenery was nice. Golf carts were nice with no mechanical issues or bumpy rides.

Now the cons, they did not tell us they were using temporary greens until we pulled up to the first hole and the starter advised us. It would have been nice to know before we booked it and at least, before we paid. Price was slightly reduced but still about what we generally pay at better courses during the week. The temporary greens were definitely not rolled. It felt like you were putting in your front yard or a pasture that had just been mowed. Definitely a lot of members and residence skipping around everywhere which interrupted the flow of the round. Furthermore, judging distances is not normally a problem for me based on yardage markers and paces, but there was no way to know yardages to these very small slightly mowed areas. I normally use my app for GPS yardage but that does no good with temp greens. Overall, the course just needs a lot of work but they are very nice people at this location. I would return after further reviews and evaluation of the golf course by others to determine if they get this course in better shape. It’s hard to say if I would recommend another course as this is the only one in South Padre we have played.

Great value

I have been playIng here for several years. It is not your PGA or Country Club course. However, the value is great. Especially for beginners and leisure players. This is Texas and surprise by the brutal summers, all courses have some ground cracking. This location is no exception. The greens roll fairly true with mild elevation changes. Some of the holes are protected by water that brings more advanced skill into play but overall, it is a fairly straight forward course with no sand traps due rovers the flood plains. I bring the wife here regularly and this is where I taught all of my kids to play. The amenities have changed a little in the wrong direction but as long as the ladies restroom in clean and the wife is happy, we can’t make due. Overall, we enjoy playing here and tuning our game or teaching others.

Hot, hot, and did i say hot?

Okay, so the heat wasn't the fault of the golf course. First time playing this course and tee time was 11:30 on a Hot Deal. The front desk gentleman was a little less than customer service oriented it once past this, we found a nice little course that could become our home course instead of Los Rios. The fairways, greens, and bunkers were in great shape. The pace of play was great as not many people were playing the Lakes Course.. Had a quick bite at the grill after 9 and the grill was nice and cool. Have had a better burger but it is a golf course, not a restaurant. The on course restrooms are air conditioned and all of the coolers were filled with ice cold water. Only made it through 14 holes before we decided to call it a day due to the heat. However, we look forward to returning and finishing not only this side, but the Old Course as well.

Pretty fun course but it needs some attention, and a marshall.

Let me start out by stating that the day we played, was just too hot for golf. My oldest son decided he wanted to tee of in the early afternoon. What a mistake! While this was not the golf courses fault, we only saw the cart girl once on a 104 degree afternoon. The older gentleman at the front desk was kind of rude when we first checked in and very short with every sentence. Ok, I can live with that. I used to play here all the time when I lived in the area and it was one of the nicer courses in the area. Now the greens are dying (could be the heat but this is Texas so they should know what to expect). the wooded areas are so thick with stuff on the ground that walking through them is a nightmare, much less finding a ball, and NONE of their carts would hold a bag on it to save their lives. I changed carts twice and so did my son and we lost our bags off of them at least 7 times. Now, I not once saw a marshall and while I am not going to complain about a group in front being slow, I am going to complain about local residents "sneaking onto the course" to play a few holes. We had at least 5 private carts do this and say that they were doing so. Not to mention the kids playing a baseball game on the fairway on the back nine. I would say that for the value, it is ok since we caught a twilight price. If it were an early morning prie, I would rate this much worse value. A little more upkeep, customer service, and monitoring of the course would take this back to a beautiful hidden gem. Until then, I am not sure I will drive another hour and a half one way to play this course.

Very rude staff, questionable pricing, and course needs attention

My wife and I have been going to King's Creek for many years. We moved from the lake area to Plano about 8 years ago but we still continued to drive out there to play golf at least once a month. We began using golfnow.com to book our tee times quite some time ago. My complaint is that I was booked at golfnow.com for one amount and when I arrived, the lady at the front desk charged me quite a bit more. I explained that we booked through golfnow and it should be cheaper and she said no. She seemed quite rude and pre-occupied and did not want to hear it. Okay fine, my wife and I paid the full amount, got a large bucket of range balls, and a few drinks and headed out to play so that we did not cause a scene for the tournament players that were in the clubhouse. Once we finished, I went in upon returning our cart and got 2 drinks. The same lady said it was one amount, then said she would have to go ring it up in the bar. So I gave her a twenty and when she returned she said, oh, it was a even more. Something seems wrong about this scenerio. I for one, am very unhappy with the way things are done there now. Even the grass is freshly mowed but the dead clippings are so ridiculous, I wonder if they mow or hope the clippings kill it. Hard to find a ball when the clippings are 4 inches thick. If this is the kind of customer service we can expect, we will save ourselves the time, effort, and money to drive an hour to your course and take our pleasure somewhere else where it is truly appreciated. I would recommend the same to other players.

Course is currently under maintenance but the staff if very friendly!

Took the wife out to play on her birthday with a new set of clubs. Upon arrival, we saw that they were using temporary greens and were in the beginning phases of a 2 month process of redoing the regular greens. No big deal since we were just out to hit the ball and have a good time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are having a special that allows players to play all day for the cost of a single round. Great deal for someone who wants to practice. The temp greens were not all that bad. Of course they are not the regular greens but what can you expect. Overall, they have done a great job of making this course available for fun during this process. I have played here before the process began and it is a fun little course with no bunkers, just a little water, and a great staff. Overall, I would recommend this course to beginners and couples out to have a great time. The wife had a great time!
