Foxtail North was my "go-to" golf course in 2015 & 2016. As far as 2017 goes, they won't be seeing a single cent from me. Reasons why...
1) Even though we've recently received quite a bit of rain in Northern California, the course conditions were terrible. The greens were extremely furry and bumpy, and bunkers are completely unplayable. For as much play the course gets and for as much money people are paying for their rounds, you definitely expect more. I'm a walker so I'll always pay a bit less than those that ride, but still.
2) The staff aren't friendly and the marshals have no knowledge of the conditions. When we discussed the conditions of the bunkers with course management, their response was "It's not worth putting the time and money into them". When we checked in with the starter we had basic questions like "How is it out there?", and "Have the greens been mowed?", and the starters response was "It's wet, and I'm not sure if they've mowed". It's obvious this guy was merely collecting a paycheck, and didn't care to be informed.
3)There was a 4 day window of decent weather prior to the day we played and it was absolutely apparent that the course had not been worked on by the crew. I completely get it that the course is wet and mowing fairways ISN'T an option, but the least that could happen is bunker maintenance (pumping out water, rebuilding the faces, raking) and mowing of the greens.
It's sad to see such a great course going down the path that it's going. Until I hear that they're putting in some serious work to this course, I won't be stepping foot on it.
Butterfield Trail Golf Club

Excellent track in west Texas. Wasn't expecting to find such a great course in El Paso. Found an amazing hot deal for a Sunday ($35 at 1:00p). Course was wide open, ended up playing 27 holes in 4 hours. The condition of the course was most excellent, and the weather was quite good (a bit windy). It's the little things that matter most, like water bottles on ice on every 3rd hole (El Paso is at approx. 4,000 feet).
