Red/Blue at Westchester Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/21/2017Never disappointed!
Once again... this course and its staff are one of the best in the area! Even though I have only played here a few times I was very impressed by the friendliness and the course conditions.
We teed off after a rain storm...had standing water for a few holes but mainly all drained very well. They did lose some large trees from the hurricane but they are cleaning those up. The greens were in excellent shape! The layout is fair but challenging. If it weren't a 30-45 min drive I'd play more often. Cart guys are the best!
Highly recommended. Would have given 5 stars but will wait to play again when not so hot and wet
Madison Green Country Club
Played On 09/19/2017Tired and unkept
Played this course a few weeks ago and I was hoping the conditions would improve...they didn't. The fairway grass was long and full of weeds. The greens were just sanded with no notice from Golfnow or the course. The teebox signs were falling apart...weeds everywhere...just generally unkept. Its sad because it was a premium course

Played On 08/16/2017Great layout but needs care
Played this morning as a single and paired with a very nice gentleman from New Jersey....was extremely hot and humid day. I have played this course numerous times over the past 8 years. Greeted nicely at the pro shop and was assured the course was in excellent condition. Teed off on the first hole and was immediately surprised at the lack of conditioning I had seen in the past. It was difficult to tell between the fairway and the rough. The fairways were overgrown with large patches of weeds. The greens had been aerated and sanded recently and rolled well but much slower than we were lead to believe and and slower than in the past. The back nine was in slightly better condition but there were many areas of neglect. The cart paths were full of potholes easily remedied by more sand but unfortunately that too has been overlooked for too long Madison Green was a well manicured challenging course. After the round, I visited the proshop to speak with management but he was out having a lesson. The comment from the staff i spoke with was that Aug is the worst time of year for conditioning...Because i think the course design is worth a trip back at another time, my recommendation would be to play for anything less than $30.

Played on a Monday afternoon. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, The course is a combination of links style and then tree lined fairways, always keeps you thinking. I would have to say there is ample landing areas in the fairways but the greens are protected and challenging to putt
The course was in excellent shape but as to another comment...please repair your ball marks on the greens and fill your divots in the fairways!!! Seriously...every time I filled mine, there were at least 4 -5 others nearby. Congrats to the grounds keeper...well manicured! The only complaint would be the lack of GPS on the carts. Otherwise I look forward to playing there again now that I know my way around. Great course for the money!

Played On 06/12/2014Confused!
The good...bent grass fairways in good shape if you can avoid the excessive divots. Greens in very good shape, but as with most public courses, golfers don't repair their pitch marks.
The layout is interesting and picturesque as advertised.
The bad...As for the best public course in St Louis...I hope not and I doubt it. This probably was a great course at some point, but it needs serious attention. Everything from the fairways, to the empty sand bottles laying around at most par three tee boxes, to the ragged deteriorating wood bridges...apparently they just don't care.
Then, there was the knucklehead on a fairway mower on number 11, continued to mow while our group and other's try to play. Absolutely didn't care! Placed a call to the Pro shop...nothing was done. Again, its a shame because the course was interesting and fun to play. Go have a good round but don't premium price, its not worth it. Nicest person in the clubhouse...the gal with the big smile behind the bar!

Played On 04/27/2014Good challenge...excellent condition!
Like others here, I had played this course once years ago. It was nowhere near the course it is today. Very pleasant staff inside and out! The grounds crew is to be commended for keeping it in such good shape especially as dry as we have been the last several weeks. it is no push over but there are holes you can take advantage of with good shot placement. Very windy conditions that day which made the well guarded greens even tougher to hit and hold. Looking forward to playing again!
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 6/25/2013Beautiful tree lined course.
Water does come into play on a few holes but can be avoided. Course condition was in great shape, greens played slower than the practice green. Play the correct tees and you will have an enjoyable round. The staff was friendly and the starter was a great guy who even praised us for playing the front nine in two hours flat! Played late afternoon on a hot deal...great price! Will definitely play again when I am in the area!
