Isle of Wedmore Golf Club
Played On 10/14/2022Friendly welcome, good layout but greens below standard
Played following a period of rainfall. Welcome in shop was very warm and informative. Course busy with a wait on most tees but did not detract from overall relaxed feel. Main problem is the greens. Looks as if they had just been hollow tined and were bumpy and patchy. Maybe the hot summer had not helped but they do need some attention. Having said all of that , enjoyed the round and especially the amazing views on the 11 & 12 holes.
Kendal Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2020Lovely mature course
Played course in great weather conditions and little wind which helped a good round. Not the longest in the card but don’t be deceived, the hills and slopes makes it feel much longer and a true tough test. Met by very friendly reception in pro shop who explained the course to us. Few blind shots and a bit of local knowledge would have helped but overall very enjoyable. Would highly recommend and great value at the price.
Wrangaton Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2018Course of two halves
Played course on 29th June in very hot weather. First nine swings around base of small hill and was almost impossible to keep ball in play. Fairways were indistinguishable from rough and rock hard. Lots of uneven bounce and impossible lies. Very very tough on trolley too. Second nine a lovely shorted parkland track. Could not be more different. Greens were in good condition and ran well. Would take some convincing to go back.
Crieff Golf Club - Ferntower Course
Played On 10/07/2016Time well spent
This course is a pleasure to play and offers a challenge to all levels. Not too testing for a high handicap but offers good scoring opportunities for better players. In excellent condition. Fairways well presented and greens interesting. Pro was very helpful and clubhouse welcoming. View of valley stunning from the high points of course. If playing take note of the slopes as ball can run away.
Callander Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2016Local course
This course is showing signs of needing some TLC. When we played the fairways were quite hard to distinguish from the first cut. Some areas were wet although there had been no rain for a week or more. Allot of par 3's that were quite long considering the overall length of the course. Greens were in average condition and slow. Overall for the money paid it was acceptable but would not rush back.
Dunblane New Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2016Good value golf course
Played the course twice whilst on a golf week in area. Couse is in decent condition for the time of year and represented a good challenge. Holes were not too long and well thought out. Couple of blind drives on downhill slopes which required careful watching. Pro was friendly and club house very pleasant. Non golfing tip - try Tillys café for coffee and cake in Dunblane near cathedral (fantastic food)
Auchterarder Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2016Good alternative to expensive neighbour
Runs alongside Gleneagles estate so shares the same spectacular views. Course is mature and had developed over time. Quite far and not overly long. Couple of holes crossed over so a little confusing in plotting a route. Greens were good although we were followed by the green keeper who was hollowtining behind us. Club house in excellent order and pro very helpful. Would go back.
Bondhay Golf Club - Championship Course
Played On 09/10/2016Not a course for the driver unless confident hitter
Played on a Saturday pm after heavy morning rain. Course was very busy but I suspect this was due to delayed morning starts. Course was quite tight off the tees - used rescue club off 8 par 4 tees. Green ok but little slow and some odd contours / hills in them. Course was generally Ok but some of the areas around tees starting to look scruffy and could do with attention. Club house friendly but a little dated.
