Funky

Paid for cart only using my Big Red Golf Pass.

Its early season golf, so the roughs were very forgiving, Conditions will get better as the year progresses.

Funky is the best way to describe this course. It is very short, but it is defensed by sharp doglegs, tiny greens and blind tee shots. I only used driver on the two par 5's.

The front is pretty well laid out, the back not so much. Pay attention going from 12-13-14,

The staff was very friendly and we were able to get a fantastic drink after our round.

Overall it was a nice course that I will play again.

Play this one.

Great public course. It gets a ton of play so call to get a tee time. Because it gets so much play, The greens get a little beat up. The fairways in general are in good shape, although early season standing water has left some sparse areas on several holes.

The course has only one water hole and no sand, but it challenges the players with tree lined fairways, long par fours, and side hills lies, The greens are fair, but there is plenty of break in them. Down hill putts can be touchy.

I really recommend this course.

Great time, Great day

I played 18 using my big red golf pass

This is as nice a course as I have played all summer. The fairways were in top notch shape and the greens were carpet.

This course is forgiving for the average golfer, but will provide a challenge for the best. The rough on the front was much thicker and it was a penalty to hit it there.

The greens were plenty fast the day I played. While the greens appeared pretty flat, you needed to have a good read to hit that five footer.

I played on a Thursday and the course was really busy. The starter was letting a lot of two's and one's on the course so pace was not very smooth. If he had paired people up, the pace would have been much better.

Must play near Hastings

I paid $16 for 18 and a cart with my Big Red golf pass

This course requires that you get a good drive in the fairway. As with many courses it has an original nine that has plenty of trees and a new nine that is pretty wide open.

This course offers something for everyone. Plenty of doglegs left and right. Three par 5's on the front. The par 3's are pretty similar but because they play in different directions, the Nebraska wind makes them play very different.

The course is in great shape and well kept. The fairways are wide but if you get in the rough you are penalized. The greens are fast but fair and offer plenty of character to make you have to putt well.

One of the best I've played this year

I paid $24 for 18 and a cart using my Big red golf pass.

This is a residential course, so the layout is kind of funky. Keep you course map handy.

This is must play for anyone that plays golf in Nebraska. The course plays long and offers a little bit of everything, uneven lies and flat fairways. Open fairways and tree lined holes. If you play from the TIPS you will be challenged. If you play from the whites and don't drive the ball 230 you will be challenged. #7 is a dogleg right that is one of those holes. #12 is another. The two par 5's on the back are tough. #10 is set up so that you want to stay left, but lots of trees and mounds are on that side. #16 is really long and past the first cut, your ball is gone.

The course is in excellent shape, I would have given them 5 stars, but #15 green has a big scar from a hydraulic leak earlier this summer. The greens have plenty of character and the day we played they were faster than most courses I've played this year.

This course gets a lot of play so get a tee time. On this day the starter was putting twosomes on the course on the same pace as foursomes so the pace was kind of disjointed.

Great course, great time. A must play.

Pretty straight forward

I paid $16 for 18 and a cart using my Big Red Golf Pass

The course is pretty straight forward. The first 4 holes are down, up, down up and pretty short. If you can't keep it straight, you will be in trouble, but using an iron off the tee isn't a penalty.
The course is well maintained and the greens were in pretty good shape. They were really fast on the day that I played (which I like). The greens also offer some contour so putting is not a snap.
Overall its a pretty nice little course. I would recommend it for a quick, fun round.

Not the best year to play

I paid $20 using my Big Red Golf Pass.

This course like many in this part of the state has gotten its tail kicked by the weather. At one point this spring it was under water and the greens show it.

The fairways are lush and the rough is deep in places, but there are also some roughs that are just weeds and crap. So if you are a duffer like me, you are better off giving up length to stay in the fairway..

The greens have some slant, but not a lot of character beyond that. It looks like they have been dressed several times. Overall the greens were C- condition.

This course has a challenging layout. This year #2 is a long short par 4 (but well guarded by water and trees) and #4 is a short par 3 with tees off of a mat.# 5 is a par 5 with zero room on the right and #10 is a par 3 with an elevated tee.
# 15 is a long par 5 -- stay right because it doglegs left the last 100 yards.

You should play this one.

I paid $16 for 18 and a cart using my Big Red Golf pass.

I have not played this course in quite awhile and it didn't disappoint. While this course isn't long, it provides plenty of challenges any all skill levels. #1 will provide plenty of uneven lies, #4 is a dogleg left with little room for error. #7 requires a blind t shot. #9 is a par three with an elevated tee to a narrow green.#11 is a dogleg right par 5 with a big cottonwood right in the middle of the fairway. 14 is a long par 4 with no room right or left.

The course sits right next to Johnson Lake and its camp ground, so it great for a weekend of golf.

This course is a beautiful course with tough and fast greens

I highly recommend.

Another excellent Nebraska 9

I paid $16 using my Big Red Golf Tour book

I have hesitated to play this course, thinking it was a glorified Par 3 course. It was anything but that.

The course was in excellent condition. The only fairway and hole that looked like it was stressed was #7.

The course requires a good shot off the tee, but you better be in the fairway, so pick your spots to hit the driver.

My favorite holes were #5 that requires a blind tee shot on a long par 4 that doglegs right. There is no room to bend it right to left. Your second shot has to content with a green that slopes right to left and is guarded by a large tree on the right. Very tough hole..

#8 is a 175 yard par three that is almost totally guarded by trees in the front.. Play to the right of the green and you have to content with a sand bunker.

This course is very much worth playing.

Hot day -- Good golf

I paid 9 bucks for 18 and a cart using my Big red Golf tour book.

I had not played this course in a while and I found it to be in excellent shape. This area has gotten some good rain this year and it shows in the fairways and roughs.

While the course is pretty straight forward, it does have some fun holes. #3 is an a par three with an elevated tee that actually plays shorter than the 160 on the card. No. 8 is a par 5 that gives you a chance to fire over some trees to set up a chance to reach the green in two. No 9 can have a chance for a blind shot into the green.

Overall a nice course in the Sandhills. Worth a try. Stop for a Kinkader after your round.

Outstanding 9

I played this course as part of my Big Red Golf Tour. I paid $12 for eighteen and a cart using my pass.

This is a par 37 course -- there are three par 5's. I typically am not a fan of the residential courses, but this one was laid out pretty well. I would not recommend walking as there are some pretty good gaps between greens and tee boxes.
Some of the marketing material call this a links course, but its not.

This course is in the best shape of any course I have played this year. The fairways were like carpet, the roughs were challenging but fair, and the greens were as true as any I have played on. Each one was in perfect shape-- no dead spots, no fungus, no nothing -- and medium fast.

My favorite holes were #2, a par three guarded by a large tree, #6 which has a blind second shot, and #9 -- a decent drive kept to the right will take the water out of play.

A nice 9

I played this course a year ago and not much has changed. I only paid $14.5. for eighteen and a cart using my Big Red Golf Tour book.
The fairways and tee boxes were in excellent shape and the roughs were manageable. The greens were another issue. It looks like they have been battling fungus (which is not surprising considering all the moisture this area has had to battle with). They are filled with brown spots and are extremely hard. Its almost impossible to get them to hold anything.
The bugs were not bad today, but there was a little bit of a breeze.
This would be a great course to walk.

Annual play

Have not played this course in over a year, but it was great to get back on.

The day started out overcast, but got really hot fast. As the day went along, greens got very fast.

Opening hole is a 110 yard par 3 guarded by a large tree and a pond in front. Two is a little dog leg right, but stay left or the creek and trees come in play.

Overall the course is pretty straight forward, but fun. Some short holes, but with smallish greens, trying to drive them isn't the best move. Just decent Iron play will put you in position to score on this course.

The course was in outstanding shape and the greens were fast and firm. Even with all the rain, the rough was not a real issue.

I paid $34 for 18 and a cart on a holiday, but the course can be played during the week for $20 before noon. This is with a cart. A great deal.

Worth checking out

I played this course on a Wednesday morning. It was only 19 for a large bucket of balls and 18 w cart using my big red golf tour book.

The course is fairly short, but there are no par 5's. The longer holes require good drives to score. Lots of trees, so keeping it straight is important. # 1 is a dog leg left. You will need 220 off the tee and stay to the right side of the fairway as the green is guarded by a creek and a large tree. #7 offers two tees, one of which is a island tee -- so kind of fun.
The fairways were in excellent shape and there were no bad spots on the greens. The greens had been recently sanded, and the quality of the sand was poor, as I was regularly having to pick up little pebbles out of my putting line. The greens are pretty small and several slope back to front, so there are chipping and putting challenges.

It is a tight little course, so pay attention as balls coming in from adjoining fairways was not uncommon.

I did not used the club house, but it is fairly new an looked like it would be a great place for a beer and a burger

It was worth playing and I would do it again.

Big Disappointment

Let's start out with the good.
I only paid 13.5 because I used my Big Red Golf Tour book. I was the first one off today, so I never had to wait and never had someone pushing me.

The fairways were in pretty decent shape, although it wasn't uncommon to see large clumps of mowed grass in the rough. I would say that three of the greens were in unplayable shape and 6 others were in poor shape.

The layout is bizarre -- not unusual for a course built inside a housing development, If you play it for the first time, you will get lost -- they are not much for signs. The long par 5 is just that long. The fairway bunker on 18 looked like it hadn't been raked or tended to in a long long time.

I had called for a tee time in advance and no mention was made of the fact that 11 was unplayable due to a young golfer class. I am all in favor of the class, but at least let folks know what is going on.

If you are playing in or around Norfolk, I would recommend you find somewhere else to play.

Polish Days Open

I played this course a few times, and I have to say it is in as nice a condition as I've ever seen it. Its a community course and they take a great deal of pride in it. They have gotten a ton of rain this year, so its taken a lot of work to keep it in shape. The greens are as well kept as any course I've played on in the last three years.

The course is fairly straight forward, but features two really tough opening holes. #1 is a par five with a 90 degree dogleg right at 200 yards. The out of bounds come into play on the tee shot, so cutting the corner is not really practical. Following that is a 213 part 3 that it typically played into the face of the prevailing south wind. There is no driving range so you are coming into those hole pretty cold.

I like the course and the people. Plus you can take your own cooler on the course. Beers are $2 in the club house.

A tale of two

I paid $20 to play this course with my Big Red Gold Tours Book.

This course is made up of 9 old holes that semi-narrow with lots of trees and 9 links style that are not so appealing.

The front is challenging and you need to be straight. The first two holes are along side the road anything much right is out of bounds. after that you are challenged by a creek on 6 of the last 7 holes. The course is not really long, but the front forces you to make some decisions. The layout offers three par 5's in a row and then ends with back to back threes, (I wasn't a fan).

The area has received ample rain, so the fairways were in great shape, unfortunately, the weather must have put them behind, because there were mowers all over the front the entire time I played. Additionally all the greens on the front were plugged and sanded that morning, so putting was a mess.

The back is just very straight forward without much imagination. The greens were very dry and hard. Wind is the best defense the back has. Wear plenty of sunscreen.

Picked the wrong day to golf

I hit the course at 8:00. There was no one in the club house, but the course super got me a key and said to pay after my round. Nice club house and nice course, Carts were in great shape.

I paid 15 bucks with my Big Red Golf Card for 18 and a cart.

The bugs were terrible. This area has gotten a boatload of rain this spring and the gnats were in full force. even with a breeze. I hit maybe 10 balls on the driving range before giving up. Bug spray was useless. They were a problem on the entire course

The tee boxes were in great shape, and the fairways pristine, but once I got to the first green I found that they were being plugged and sanded.

The course itself is well designed. I couldn't putt, but it was evident that the greens have contour and it makes a difference on your approach. 5 and 6 are a hard dogleg right and then a hard dogleg left. 7 is a long par 5 that is guarded by water and is challenging.

On a different day this could be a real fun course to play, but this particular day was a bust.

Good Recovery

I played this for the first time in several years. I used my Big Red Golf Tour book and it only cost me 15 to play 18. Normally its over 30 on the weekend.

This course fairly straightforward, but it does have its challenges. #1 is a 210 yard part three from an elevated tee. There isn''t a driving range, so you are hitting that cold. Its not easy. #3 is a reachable par 4, but the green is domed so good luck sticking it on there. # 6 is a par 4 that has creek at 230 yards and heads due south so the prevailing wind is in your face. your next shot is on to another domed green. Par is a good score.
7,8,9, have the greens and tee boxes very tight together. A bit of shooting gallery.

This course was totally underwater after the spring flooding, ,but you could not tell. The course is in fantastic shape. the greens were quick but true. The community takes a great deal of pride in this course.

Make sure you stop at the Scratchtown brewery afterwards. Its worth the stop.

Rising above the flood

This course was devastated by flood water this spring. The team there has worked very hard to get 9 holes playable. While the course layout is significantly different than prior years, what is there is in great shape. The greens are fast but true.
