They are trying

For the money it is just about the best you can get in California now....for the average golfer it is becoming almost impossible to find a "Good" course under $60 now..Yucaipa is doing about as good as anyone trying to keep playing conditions up and prices down. What is needed now is for the golfers to follow any signs and roped off areas and let the course heal..that goes for all the Men's clubs who I see not following signs and taking down ropes as much as anyone.

Greens another 2 weeks

Curse is still moving out of the Country Club culture into a public course attitude....greens are starting to come along after some tough summer heat...course should start shinning in October. Need to get more public play and tone down some of the "Your Not the Owners Anymore" old members with chips on their shoulders that you run into there....the new owner is bending over backwards to try and keep old members happy while still trying to bring in the public.......

Lazy

Played the legions was very unhappy about the GPS for flags not being set....back nine all wrong..You have to manually go to each green and set flag location for GPS every time you reset flag....so if a flag is in back but was in front the day before and you do not set it with satellite or it will still read the day before location...just mad because I played this course a lot and this day I happened to leave my range finder at home but was sure I could use their GPS as it is set to the flag....only it was not....you know like Yucipia Valley used to do all the time when they had flag location GPS.

Start after 11:30

Made the mistake of playing Wednesday at 11:00...first 9 holes played very fast, but at turn ran into Wednesdays men's club, two foursomes on tee box, had to follow them for 4 holes till they finished, I know they started at 8;00 and they pulled off just before 1 ?. Course is worth playing just wait till 11:30 or later on Wednesdays as men's club is full of guys that think they are pros and need to read putts from all angles and stand around and watch each other play....

Good TIme

Paired up with Husband and wife, both good players...we played around 11 and had a smooth less then 4 hour round....Course in good shape, always a joy to play the Legends side as the back nine is easy compared to the Champion back nine which can ruin your day if your a 15 or over.....not your everyday public course, well worth playing if just for the different holes.

Great Public

For years this has been a good place to play, now it is one of the best public courses around when you consider price and condition of the course. How nice to have grass, good grass, to hit off of in the fairways, and greens that are full of good grass. Of course there a few rough spots thorough out the course but here in the inland empire you won't find any thing better unless you pay more, a lot more....

Playing with the Wife this is the Place....

This is one of the best courses in Southern California for you to take your wife or girl friend to play. 5 par 3's with 4 of them short and very women/kid friendly. My wife loves this course, and for me (14 Handicap) it is the place to beat your handicap. Very well maintained and pace of play is usually good. This is a Resort Player friendly layout that is as good a course as the middle to high handicapper could ever want.....only down side would be for the low handicapper he/she may have to be happy with a sup-par round....

Good Fairways

Had to give 5 stars because there is grass in the fairways, little rough and the greens putt-able. This is California public golf at a good price and a very playable course....like most public courses this one also has some challenges around the greens as far as chipping and pitching but compared to most of the courses at this level this one has done a better job then most. We are loosing so many decent priced public courses in California this one is trying and more people need to consider the drive....better then Yucaipa Valley, Shandin Hills, Diamond Valley or Hemet for my money.

All ways good.

Another fun round, we always try and play Legions side as the back nine is 3 or 4 shots easier then the Champions back nine for our short hitters game. Wind not to bad this time as we played after 12 and wind can be a challenge in the after noon....only one down thing is all the new housing going in is taking away the quite round out in nature we enjoyed for years here....

Very Nice

Very nice course in great shape...short 3 pars make course one you can score below your handicap. Course has several tee box's so you can lengthen it or play it shorter if you are out for fun or challenge. By far a course your wife/girlfriend may give you a run for your money if you play back and she plays forward. Course is back in a canyon so wind is less a problem then many Palm Spring area courses...for women and seniors this is a must...if you want a place you make a birdie/par or two this is the one...

Good Value

Yes the fairways are dormant with no over seed.....very little ruff and it looks bad, but lies are playable and greens are very good (you will not find bent grass greens on many public courses) course is fun to play and much easier then the current slope rating....found most shots required a half or full club more then yardage.....and driver off tees was short on a lot of the holes as there is some grade changes even if it looks flat....

Good Golf

A few challenging holes, course in good shape for a public course... greens were good, a few sanded. Always enjoy this course as you get a mix of wide open tee shots and tight tee shots....three pars are all reachable....

houses make it harder

Without houses this would be an easy course for me (15 handicap) but they are there so course a bit more of a challenge for me. Layout is straight forward with few holes you cannot see green from tee (18 the biggest dogleg right) Greens are starting to slow a little after the rain, a little longer and some rolling and they will be very playable again (after two months of slippery fast) Will not beat the course for the weekday green fees now with only one other lower price within 20 miles....come out and play we need to keep the course open, it is well worth the price if a bit slow sometimes.....

Good Course

Played Champions side and as always the back nine is a good challenge for a 15 handicap. Just one thing that was bad, bunkers were not racket by previous players six out of six bunkers I was in....no wonder we are loosing so many golf courses in California so many players think the course should take care of it self....

Good Public Track

Course does not look like much but is in fairly good shape when you get out on it. Greens were slow enough to allow more putts to fall or stay close. Sand Traps not to good, but easy to get out of. Have always enjoyed this course for the last 15 years....most holes are set up so you can swing away, course was set up to it away from houses on most fairways, or fairways are wide enough so higher handicaps have plenty of room.

Not the Same

Been playing Oak Valley from day one and course is just whisper of what it once was....layout is the same and is very good challenge. Course condition is not anything like in the past...still have a few really good holes (fairway to green) but to many are not over seeded enough to be playing on anything more then dormant Bermuda. Looks like the were very selective in their over seeding this year, tee box"s and around greens but very little fairway. Price is to high for condition of course...with courses closed all over Inland Empire you would think Oak Valley would try to stand out, Courses across the freeway (Morongo) has done a much better job and cost less to play.

Harder 18

being a 15 handicap I play the Legends side most of the time but gave the Champions side another try today....yep still 4 or 5 strokes harder, and that is without the wind...Champions side starts fairly tame but once you hit 6 it starts getting a little long for the shorter hitters....number 9 gets you warmed up for the back nine, it is a longish par 5 with a lot of bunkers and a tricky green....once you hit 10 you better have some control of your ball or it is over, the back side can really run up your score if your not on your game. The back nine could be the hardest 9 in the inland empire if you cannot keep your ball fairly straight...that said you have to try it out because if you have a good day, it is a great day.....

Good time to play

With the winds up the course (Legends) was empty at 10:30, playing as a single caught up with 3 some at hole 5, they moved very fast so I just played a few extra shots and stayed behind them the rest of the way still finishing in 3 hours. Best time to play the winds on this course is when you are playing alone and no worries, was able to practice a lot of wind shots...550 yard par 5 straight into a 25 mile wind, did I ever reach the green? Course in good shape, just a few broken pipes or sprinklers still so a few muddy spots in some fairways and around a few greens. Greens a little on fast side, and the wind made them real fun.

2 different nines

Good place to play in beautiful Valley Center. Front and back nines are different...some very interesting holes...Not your average layout, every time you play it you find something new about the place....Tee Box's are spaced out very nicely so your ability can match where you play from...far enough for most and short enough to be enjoyable for us less skilled or powerful...greens seem a little different on front and back nine? Worth playing when down that way...

Worth the Drive

Yes it is 18 par 3's some very short, but what a well kept lay out...if you get a chance this 3 par course is worth it...we drove out 60+ miles to play on Saturday afternoon and were very glad we did. We are in the inland empire where not even the best public course can compare to the condition this course was in. Guess water is so abundant in the desert they can keep things green, and they have green keepers that know what they are doing....and two marshals came by at least twice each to ask how we were doing....I have not seen a marshal in two years at any of the courses we play in the inland empire....
