Wonderful Replica

Found this gem of a course and decided to give it a try. Watching many British Opens, you see some very famous holes. This course did a great job on recreating those famous holes. Course conditions were great, from tee boxes, to fairways, and greens. Also, there was a full grass driving range on site. Staff was really helpful and friendly. And a huge Claret Jug in front of a clubhouse that looks more like a castle makes you wonder if you’re in Nevada or Europe.

It may not seem like it from the scorecard, but this course is sneaky difficult. It’s not long, but don’t get your ball in the wrong place, especially above the hole. Had a great experience here and look forward to coming back.

Wonderful Course

Pleasantly surprised by this course. Paid less than $40 to play, and it was worth every penny. We were on vacation and found this course on golfnow, and glad we played it.

Golf is hard enough as it is, and when you play a course for the first time, it can make things even harder. But this course was very straight forward, with very little forced carries and friendly greens. Even when you miss the green, there are usually opportunities to get up and down quite often. My wife was my playing partner and for the most part, she enjoyed the course, so its pretty friendly for women.

Conditions were fantastic even though it was quite cold. Tee boxes were in great shape, and fairways were lush. The only knock would be that the greens were a little on the slower side, running at what felt like less than 10. They still rolled true, but slightly slower than what I was expecting. This didn't make the course any less enjoyable; I am just used to faster greens.

Overall, this is a great course for out of towners to play because it is quite friendly (70.3/122 rating/slope from the serpent tees). Nothing worse that a course that just beats you up hole after hole. This course lets you play simple golf that isn't a brutal test. I plan on coming back.

Could be GREAT, but pace of play is horrible.

I liked this course. The setup, the elevation changes, the different types of holes (uphill, downhill, dogleg right and left, short par 4s, long par 4s). There's a good variety of holes. Conditions were above average. Staff was friendly, and we even ordered food before our round (Cuban Sandwich--4 out of 5 stars). Overall, I really like this place. So why the 3 stars? PACE OF PLAY. I have played this course 3 times, and EVERY TIME it comes to a grinding halt after a few holes. Why? This is one of the more affordable golf options in Sparks, and for whatever reason some of the people that play this course think they should play the Blue Tees, which have a 71.6 Rating and a 130 Slope. On top of that it can get windy here, along with some severe elevation changes. I saw a guy in front of me take 3 full shots to get on the green on a par 3.....He (and his entire group) should be playing from the white tees. So that is why EVERY ROUND here is 5+ hours. There are too many newbies that come here that have too big of an ego to move forward 1 set of tees. Save yourself the frustration and just go somewhere else. Course conditions are nice here, but who cares about conditions if the round is 5+ hours, even on a weekday.

Mixed Feelings.......nice course but bad operations.

I have played this course 6 times over the last 6 months. The course itself is 4 stars. The best part of this course is how good the greens are ....really true roll, and maintained very well. The rest of the course isn't bad....I would give it an "above average" rating, which means its not horrible but the rough could benefit from some mowing. Felt like the US Open. The course is fairly narrow and has some doglegs that require accurate drives. Other than that, its a pretty flat course that is walkable if you choose to walk. The carts are fairly new as well. The issue I have is with how the tee times are managed. This place can be brutally slow some times, or what seems like overbooked. The last round we played, we were behind two different 5-somes, who were behind a slow 4-some. I couldnt see any further than that, so I really don't know which group was holding up play. We had to wait 5-10 minutes on every single tee box after hole # 2. Got to the point where we just gave up on 11 and played the front 9 again. There were no marshalls and no staff even helping to speed up play. In fact, I think there were only 2 people working in the proshop and 1 cart return person. Its really a bare bones situation. The previous time we played, there was a tournament and the pro shop let the non-tournament golfers start on the 10th tee in the morning. When I teed up at 11am, I was told to go to the #1 tee, since all the tournament golfers had teed off, but there were the non-tournament people finishing the 18th hold that now needed to play their second 9, so there was this huge log jam on the 1st tee, with 3 or 4 groups all at once with no direction or announcement from the pro shop on who was next on the tee. Overall, this place can be a joy to play or a huge frustration.....so check this place out, but beware of how unorganized it can be. This course rewards good shots and penalizes bad ones, so overall its a fair course. I give the COURSE a 4 Star Rating, but Service / Management / Operations gets only 2 stars......overall, its a 3 star place to play.

Nice course in Valley Springs

First time back in a very long time (not for any bad reason, but because there are 5 golf courses within 15 minutes or so). Pleasantly surprised by the great conditions of the greens. Rolled great....not too fast and not too slow. Fairways were decent....not perfect but considering the drought in CA I would rate them a B- or so. Mostly good lies, with a very little bare spots. It was a light day in terms of the number of golfers so we were able to play in about 3 hrs 50 min. Friendly staff during check in and nice lady at the turn. Glad I made the drive out there.

Great Experience

This course is excellent. It's a very fair golf course where good shots are rewarded and bad shots result in bogey or worse. I played with my wife and we both enjoyed the course, so payers of all abilities will enjoy this track. Staff was to notch--very professional and friendly. Tee boxes were pristine, like the one you see on TV. Greens are perfect--on the faster side, but that's how I like it, and the putts role pure. On of my new favorite courses. Worth the drive, and will definitely be back.
