Pine Ridge Golf Centre
Played On 08/10/2017A lovely golf course
A lovely golf course in pretty decent shape! All tee boxes were in nice condition, fairways were very well kept and the greens were in fantastic condition (some of the best I've seen over the last 10 years of golfing here). There were very few marks on them and they rolled pretty true and surprisingly quick. The course is very forgiving as it's nice and wide and if you do happen to find the trees, you've have a pretty good chance of finding your ball. Were some puddles in the trees but was due to a day of constant rain the day before so nothing to complain about. Were a lot of people out on the course but it seemed to cope well. Slightly strange that they were no marshalls out as some groups were taking a little too long with their shots. Overall, a golf course that ticks most people's boxes, and will continue to do so if the current conditions are kept up!
Battleground at Deer Park, The
Played On 08/03/2017A decent golf course
We were in the area for a couple of days so decided to scout out a golf course that got good reviews and wasn't too expensive. This is when we stumbled across Battleground. We booked on golfnow so was a quick visit to the pro shop before hand to pay, the young chap in there was very helpful and lent us a bag for nothing which was a nice touch. We teed off and got off to a fairly good start. Unfortunately as the course went on, the state of the course got slightly worse but nothing too bad to play on. The greens weren't that great and were covered in sand but surprisingly ran true-ish! There was a few rough patches on every green but maybe that's to be expected this time of the year (is it the off season so they're trying to repair them?). Every tee box was also in a sorry state with the majority of them having crater like holes which did affect your stance. The fairways however were in good shape and the course was quite forgiving if you hit it off the fairway, the few trees there were on the sides were easy enough to escape if you happen to put your ball into them! Overall, a good game of golf at a very reasonable price, if the minor problems highlighted were fixed, it would be a really nice course. Would probably play again.
Disney's Magnolia Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2017Another great disney golf course
Having played the palm course the day before, I thought I'd give the magnolia course a go and it definitely didn't disappoint! I actually preferred the magnolia course over the palm because of the way it's laid out as the fairways are a lot wider and approach shots in the green seemed to be more accessible (although fairways were wider, if you play your shot off the fairway, it'll take quite some time to find it if ever! The golf course was played back to front so 10-18 first and then 1-9, this is apparently because when they played the Disney classic there, that's the way the pros wanted to play it (hole 9 is nicer than 18 though so possibly why?). Most of the holes were pretty dry with the odd few exceptions however it's a lot, lot dryer than other golf courses throughout Florida at this time of the year. The greens were in good shape and rolled true (some quicker than others though!). The pro-shop staff and the staff at the bag drop off point were great and couldn't be more accommodating. Overall, another Disney course which retains that 'magical' yet very professional feel, a must if in the area.
Disney's Palm Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2017A fantastic golf course
The Palm golf course is truly a golf course that must be played. Although we played in the heat and humidity of the summer, we still had a great time. The course itself is in fantastic shape, with most of the greens rolling true and not too wet at all. Some fairways (in particular #4) were quite wet but nothing that made it un-enjoyable. I'm a middling golfer and I felt that although the course is in great shape and is laid out nicely, it still presented quite the challenge. The golfing carts were quite interesting as well as they have GPS fitted. This will give you an accurate distance to the pin, something that allows you to play the right club and give yourself the chance of a decent score. The clubhouse and bag drop off are also a credit to the resort, with the staff cleaning your clubs on return and loading them into the boot of your car, something which isn't found at many other courses. Overall, the golf course is a credit to Disney and although very professional, still manages to give you that 'magical' feeling of being at Disney. If you're in the area, definitely give this course a go, you won't be disappointed.
Heritage Harbor
Played On 07/25/2017A nicely laid out course but a lot of very wet fairways and greens
A nice golf course at a very reasonable price. We played at around 2 o'clock and there was hardly a single person on the course (due to the extreme heat and humidity) which allowed us to play at our own pace without being worried about the group/s behind us. The course is well laid out and has (I recall) water on every hole. 30% of the course wa dry but the rest was extremely sodden. This is to be expected this time of the year but the greens were way to wet, something other courses have adapted better to (our golfing shoes were leaving fairly big footprints on the green, something that was completely un-avoidable. Also be prepared to repair HUGE pitch marks). We stopped half-way round in the clubhouse to escape the heat and grab a drink in the bar. Also a quick mention to the staff in the pro-shop who were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help us. On a slightly sour end note, we returned from our round hoping to grab a shower to find everything at the golf club closed, including all restrooms. This was particurly frustrating due to the fact that we clarified earlier in the day as to whether the shower room was going to be open and we were told by reception that they would be open and 'if they weren't, they would unlock them for us' . Not a huge problem but put a slightly sour ending on what was a great round of golf. Probably would return.
White Heron Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2017Great golf course under new management
A lovely golf course that is being restored to (or so I'm told!) it's former glory. I've played here a couple of time over the last few days and although it's very wet, the general condition of the course is very good, although some of the greens are being/need to be worked on. However, at the current price, it really is great value for money and I wouldn't hesitate booking another round. The staff were also very friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure our time on the course was enjoyable. Travis, the GM, came over and introduced himself and thanked us for coming to play, a touch which isn't found at many golf courses around the world and something I feel really added a touch of class to the place. Overall, a wonderful golf course with loads of potential.
