Crescent Oaks Country Club
Played On 05/04/2017A nice surprise!
Considering the lack of rain in our area I found Crescent Oaks to be in good condition. The greens were very good and rolled quite true with a surprising pace. The rough was not to penal if one missed the ample size fairways. The bunkering layout is very strategically place throughout the golf course and several bunkers are somewhat deep and quite punishing to get out of much like one might find in Ireland or Scotland.
Overall I found the golf course most playable and enjoyable. The restaurant inside the clubhouse had an excellent selection of food choices and cold beverages. My lunch choice was very well prepared and the service personnel in the restaurant were very pleasant.
Rolling Oaks at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2014Total golfing experience
As always when playing golf at World Woods one will find it an excellent golfing experience. I chose to play Rolling Oaks on this day even though the course was undergoing "course maintenance".. I only wish other golf courses knew how to conduct "course maintenance" as well as the World Woods staff. It was a pleasure to play a perfectly groomed golf course with absolutely no intrusions by the course maintenance crew. The greens had undergone aerification and top dressing and putted slower than normal but that was due more to the excessive amount of rain in the area an inabilities to mow all greens as short as they usually do; however, they rolled very true and one only had to adjust their putting stroke in order to enjoy the round.
The food in the clubhouse is excellent and the wait staff do a very nice job. Overall, it was a great day to play golf on an outstanding golf course. The weather was very hot and humid but that is summer in Florida so just stay hydrated and enjoy. I look forward to returning to World Woods in the very near future.
Wentworth Golf Club
Played On 06/05/2014Long and narrow
The golf course was in excellent condition. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I found the golf course played a bit longer than the posted yardage on most holes. I would suggest "playing it forward" for most first time golfer's to Wentworth. Wentworth is an excellent test of golf requiring very accurate tee shots and proper placement of one's second or third shot into a number of very undulating greens..
Dunedin Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2014Historic and challenging
Dunedin CC is a very historic golf course in the fact that it is not only a Donald Ross design but, at one time, was the home of the PGA. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant offered an excellent menu and the cart girl was always available on the course.
The fairways are very thin with grass at this writing and several fairways had areas that were barren; however, the greens were in excellent condition. I should mention that all greens will be going through their aerification and top dressing phase around the 28th of April so one might keep this in mind. Dunedin CC offers numerous tees to suit one's game and can be quite challenging from the Blue tees. Although Dunedin CC appears to be very compact and short, don't be fooled. The bunkering and elevated Donald Ross greens are a true test of golf. I truly enjoyed my round of golf despite a few "scratchy fairways" which did not diminish the enjoyment.
University of South Florida Golf Course - The Claw
Played On 02/11/2014A fair test of golf
The Claw was in very good condition and a very fair test of golf. The greens were excellent and the ball rolled true to one's stroke. Pace of play was a bit slow but that is to be expected this time of year (Feb.) due to the influx of winter tourists and part-time residents.
It is critical that one drive the ball with reasonable accuracy on a number of holes on both the front and back nines. The fairways can get quite narrow on a number of holes and with wetlands guarding both sides of these fairways a stray tee shot is usually a lost ball tee shot.
Overall I would rate this golf course an excellent value with a very nice restaurant sporting a surprisingly diverse menu as an added bonus.
Clearwater Country Club
Played On 8/29/2012Not a long golf course but rough can be penal if you miss the fairways. Greens were in excellent condition with a stimpmeter reading of 10.
Overall the golf course was in excellent condition considering all the rain we had received from a tropical storm that seem to linger for the entire week or so prior to my playing. Pace of play was good but I can see where it might slow down a bit after 11am because of the number of players. The golf course is not a long golf course but the rough demands you hit the fairways or accept the penalties that await you. A good value, fun to play and I would recommend the golf course to my friends.
