Poppy Hills Golf Course
Played On 07/09/2020Overall, a great track to be enjoyed!
Hats off to the maintenance crew and course sup. for keeping the course in fantastic condition. It’s a bit of a strange time for everyone right now. Bearing that, interactions with the greeter or check-in personnel could be warmer and a bit more welcoming. It would also be nice for management to send a welcome email with updated information for first-time visitors (e.g. $25 just to put a bag on a cart wasn’t a nice surprise). Glad that the food quality was on point even during this time. Overall, it was a nice outing and would come back for the course (now that we know what to expect and how to deal with the check-in staff).
The Bridges Golf Club

Over the years, I've attempted to take breaks from the course and then revisited from time to time in order to give it a fair chance. Unfortunately, things haven't gotten better since my first impression. The layout and the course condition forces the worst out of my (and pretty much everyone I've played with here) game (no rewards essentially for hitting great shots). I've played the "sister" course-Eagle Ridge, and I can't quite explain it, but it's so much better than Bridges. From the hint of sass you get at the pro shop when you need to make minor changes to the inconsistent and discolored greens and worse than US Open rough conditions, it's just so very very difficult to like and enjoy this course. With so many courses in the bay area to consider, this continues to slip back on the list of my preferred list to play. The only good part of the course is how frequent the cart girl comes by to make sure everyone's ok (and to sell you $10 shots of crown). After this visit, tough for me say, but this time may be the very last time I will be back.
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 08/01/2016No more difficult marshals please!
SkyWest is a good muni course. The location is convenient and it's a good value. I have played this course countless times and sure, it's not perfect, but I have never felt the need to write a review about the small shortcomings. That is no longer the case after the unpleasant (I'll keep it civil) experience today. To begin, the course raised the price on the monthly pass without any prior notice to its' customers (I receive regular emails from the course). I have no problem with supporting the local public courses, but a little heads up would be nice. The conditions were below average (for what I've seen of this course) as some of the bunkers were just bare (hit 1in and you've bottomed out). The worse part of my round was dealing with the unruly marshal that kept bothering me throughout my round. He apparently doesn't greet people when you greet him. He didn't speak to me with a respectful tone. He either went straight to a command or it was a question. I was having a decent round, but he completely ruined the rest of my golf for the day. I mean, what gives? I was quite upset after my round, but I didn't storm into the pro shop asking for an apology or anything. I have no explanation to why he treated me the way he did, but I truly hope Hayward parks and rec. dept. can do something about it (maybe a refresher training on manners and job responsibilities for the marshals?)
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 9/07/2013For what it's worth...
It's not the worst public golf course I've played. The staff is cordial and attentive. That's always a plus. But the deep muddy cart tracks, various unkept rough areas, and pumpy greens really bring the the playing experience down. I can't seem to remember one green that gave even close to a "true" roll on the ball. The pace of play is decent and I suppose all in all, you get what you pay for. It's worth at least a try.
