Avalon Golf Links - West/South Course
Played On 08/01/2017Challenging greens
Avalon is in good shape. The greens are nice and roll smoothly. There are subtle breaks on the greens which makes reading and making putts difficult. I sure haven't figured them out yet, but I'll definitely be back to try again.
Classic Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2015Good Golf!!!
This was my first time playing the course since they cut down the trees and I really liked it. I've heard mixed reviews about the tree removal and that the course has lost its character, but that's not the case. The course is still great, and still poses its challenges. The fairways and greens were in great shape despite the wetter weather we've been having. The bunkers, on the other hand, need to be fluffed up a bit. The lies are tight and the sand was firm, which made for some challenging greenside bunker shots. All and all, I like the new look and I'll definitely return.
Allenmore Golf Course
Played On 10/06/2015Good conditions
I enjoyed the course. Conditions were nice. Greens were punched 3 weeks ago and have healed nicely. It's definitely a busy place, but the pace of play was fine. It has some nice views of Mt. Rainer on the back nine, if you catch it on a clear day.
Salish Cliffs Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2015Immaculate
Salish Cliffs is first class. The course was in beautiful shape: green fairways and challenging true greens. The back nine is more difficult than the front, in my opinion. Each hole is framed nicely, and territorial views are seen throughout the course. The practice areas are very nice, especially the area by the first and tenth tees. The food in the restaurant is good and provides a nice atmosphere, also has a nice outdoor seating area. Everything about this place is top notch and I look forward to returning.
The Olympic at Gold Mountain Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2015Must Play
Gold Mountain is a wonderful place to spend the day. Course conditions are top notch: green fairways, lush rough, and awesome greens. Despite all the warm weather we've been having, this place is still playing very fair and isn't getting burnt out like many other courses in the state. Olympic course is the better course of the two, but both courses are a pleasure to play. I will definitely be back.
Port Ludlow Golf Resort
Played On 07/03/2015Burnt out
Don't get me wrong, the course is picturesque with well framed holes, but it's playing pretty bad right now. The fairways are burnt out and very hard. The ball just bounces and rolls forever, most likely into a spot of bother. Once you get to the green, there slow and had to really hit them. Needless to say, it was a difficult, trying day. I understand it's been abnormally hot and dry, and water is expensive, but I feel this course deserves to be maintained better because it's a beautiful place. I hope it gets better.
The Home Course
Played On 04/17/2015Awesome
The Home Course is playing really good right now. The greens are challenging, but roll true. The fairways bounce and roll with tight lies. The bunkers are nicely maintained and can pose some challenges. A true links style course with some spectacular views. I can't wait to play it again.
Druids Glen
Played On 04/06/2015Nice greens
I've played here a number of times over the years and have always really enjoyed this place. The course is unique and very picturesque. The greens are putting very well right now, but getting there is another story. It's still pretty soft and muddy and the rough is tall and thick. One of Druids key features is their white sand bunkers, and although they're pretty to look at, they're deep and difficult. They could definitely be maintained a little better, lots of footprints and animal tracks. The water features on the back nine appear to be under construction, but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the course, but I do hope they get filled back up. I also wish they would supply towels in the carts, when paying 60 bucks for a round it's a nice touch. A shoe cleaning station with compressed air would a nice added amenity, and if they want us to sand our divots they need to supply full sand bottles, not empty ones. I give this place a month and it will be playing sweet, I'll definitely return despite my rant.
The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Links
Played On 03/30/2015Enjoyable
We played on a Monday and played both courses. Pace of play wasn't an issue. It was my first time playing the Links course and it was pleasing to the eye. It was still pretty wet and muddy and the greens were punched about 2 weeks ago. The course still needs some time to recover and dry out, but there's definitely some picturesque looks and I still enjoyed myself despite the conditions. I don't really have a favorite out of the two courses, but Woodlands is playing better right now. Water hazards come into play on several holes on the Links course, but is still very playable for all skill levels. I would definitely like to play this course again when the greens recover more and the fairways dry out. All and all Hawks Praire is a pretty sweet place and I'll be returning.
The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Woodlands
Played On 03/30/2015Enjoyable
We played on a Monday and played both courses. We paid $65 to play both courses with a cart through golfnow. Pace of play wasn't an issue, we cruised right along. With the 90 degree rule in effect it saved us a lot of time, although there a number of soft spots where if you were to hit your ball there, I'd be in the ground. The rough obviously hadn't been cut in awhile cause it was long. The greens on Woodlands have recovered nicely from punched about a month ago and putted quite nicely. The course itself is very picturesque and poses a number of challenges, a couple forced carries and large sloped greens. The course needs to dry out some more, and needs to be mowed, but still very fun and playable. I'll definitely return.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 02/23/2015Magnificent
This place is amazing. Conditions were immaculate. Probably the best and most memorable course I've played here in Arizona, and I've played quite a few courses (Grey Hawk, Starfire, Kierland, Talking Stick, Troon North, Boulders, Ocotillo). It does have some quirks though: 10 minute cart ride from the pro shop to the practice area and first tee, then all the way back after the 18th hole. Also, the day I played it was cart path only, so pace of play was a little slow, but with the scenery being so amazing I didn't mind. Every hole is picture worthy, and the par 3's are spectacular. This place is well worth the effort to get there, and with it being in the middle of nowhere just adds to its beauty. I can't wait to come back on my next trip down.
Mesquite/Ironwood at Kierland Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2015Top Notch Facility
Kierland is expensive, but it's worth it. Top notch facility: nice practice area, and putting green. The staff is welcoming, and the course conditions were pristine. The restaurant has good food too. I'll definitely come back again.
White Horse Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2014One of the best courses in the state.
Whitehorse is one of my favorite courses, it's definitely worth the special trip. The new clubhouse is very nice and makes for a nice picture on the tee box at 18.
Brookdale Golf Club
Played On 03/04/2015Enjoyable
Brookdale has been around since 1931, so it has that old world charm. The course is not overly difficult, but it has some nice looks. I thought it played pretty well for being the first part of March, the fairways had some bounce and roll and the greens were in nice shape. There was however two temp greens the day I played, but it didn't take away from my overall experience. The course doesn't have many bunkers, but the bunkers they do have, the sand looked nice and playable. The course is suitable for all skill levels.
Thank you for coming to play Quintero. We are so glad you chose to spend some time with us! When will you be back?
