Very good course to play with family and friends. I really like the driving range is very close to the 1st tee box. Greens are in excellent shape and in the quick side too. Tee boxes and bunkers need TLC , fairways were in very good shape. The course will reward well struck shots and it does play on the side of a mountain so prepare yourself to deal with putting away from the mountain. Definitely recommend playing.

Ackerman-Allen at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex
Played On 08/09/2020Great Layout and Playing Conditions
Played Ackerman-Allen in an IGA tournament and the course is a great tournament course. The course conditions were awesome with greens running at fast but true pace, fairways were in excellent condition and cut tight, and rough that could be penal (like it should).
The general back and forth layout make a great setting as you can see across many holes and a preview of hole locations coming up as well. Play the course as it presents itself upon walking on the tee and one should play fine. There are five set of tees: The White tees are about 6,300 yards and most should play these tees. If one goes back to the next set of tees, Blue (6,800 yards), be prepared for much longer holes on 2, 5, 17, 18 with some holes needing a long drive over ravines to the fairway. If one wants to play the black tees (over 7,500 yards), good luck with No. 5 Par 3 that plays to 300 yards.
Course amenities are OK, there is a halfway concession stand with no beverage cart on the course. Drinks and Snacks are pricey. The driving range is OK, with the tournament at the site they put us on very weedy rough grass, did not let us use the better part of the range, very strange. Nice short game area and putting green(s).
Recommend a few rounds at this course.

Glenwoodie Country Club
Played On 07/05/2020Fair Course for All
An older course but in great shape. A great mix of short and longer holes. The greens are the defense of the course, they are undulating and there are some that are very fast from back to front. The signature and difficult holes are No. 11 and No. 16. On No. 11, get your drive to the lower fairway, then the approach shot needs to be below the hole. No. 16 is one of the most difficult holes as one drives to edge of the upper fairway and then is left with a 165 to 175 yard shot over a ravine/creek to a small green that is fast from front to back. Walk off with a 4 on No. 16 and celebrate like you made birdie. The rough can be thick therefore keeping your drives in the fairway are rewarded. Play in the afternoon for $27 with a cart and you have enough left over for beer and hot dog from the bar. Nice outdoor deck and a big driving range and putting green make this a solid place to visit often. If you want a more difficult course go back a tee box or move up and have a great time with your family. Very walkable course with only 2 or 3 hills to walk up.
The Ravines Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2020Tough Course cut of the forest
If you like each golf hole framed by trees then you will love this course. Generous fairways but quickly will get into trees once off the fairway. Nice layout with some difficult driving holes with numerous dog leg holes that forces one to hit drives that long and accurate. Green are somewhat quick and well contoured. The green complexes provided some great shelves and many hole options.
Complete practice facility to get one ready. There are many forced carries from the tee boxes and green approaches. The course also allows to hit long irons and hybrids off many tee boxes with good fairway roll.
This course has an awesome set of Par 5s with the best one is No 14 (602 yards) with an uphill drive over a ravine and then downhill with 2 solid shots. Par 3s can be tricky.

Played On 06/20/2020Playing in Sand Dunes- Very Nice
Solid Course among the Sand Dunes near Lake Michigan.
Awesome Practice facility with driving range with various flag targets, short game area with bunkers (sand is soft & heavy), and practice green close to the first tee.
Staff greeted us at Bag Drop and asked us if needed buckets of practice balls. Very friendly and took care of us nicely including the starter, who will come searching for you if you are late for the tee time.
One critic of the range balls, paying extra for range balls was not great when you are paying $70 for 18 holes. Paying for balls just to practice or on a discounted afternoon rate, I would have no problem, just not for the top rate.
The course is wonderfully layed out with generous fairways, short strategic holes, long holes, driveable Par 4 11th, nice variety of lengths for Par 3s & Par 5s. There are times one feels in the forest, among high grasses, and in between large sand dunes. This is a layout that both long and short hitters can play and have a great time.
Course was nice manicured though green speeds were on the slow side but they ran very true. They did have a beverage running as well.
Spend the morning playing golf and then head over to the beach in less than 5 minutes for a great enjoyable Michigan Summer Day.
Coyote Crossing Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2020Tournament Course Shape
Played this wonderful course on the north side of West Lafayette, IN (2 hours south of Chicago, 1 hour north of Indianapolis).
The course is wonderfully manicured and a layout that has one thinking on some holes and just hit the ball hard on other holes. Great collection of Par 3 holes with 3 of them needing to cross a creek to reach the green. Par 5 holes have probably at least 2 of the 4 wanting to go for the green in 2 shots.
Our family played from 2 sets of tees, 2 of us played from tees at 6,400 yards and found this to be very playable is you carry the ball at least 215 yards with the driver. My wife found the forward tees very playable and she drives it about 160 to 180 on average.
To score, it is all about the green complexes and these are difficult. There are false fronts, nice approach aprons where one can use the putter, fast & true greens, and more breaking putts that normal.
I would highly recommend playing Coyote Crossing!
Los Verdes Golf Course
Played On 02/17/2020Awesome Views, Good Greens
First Time playing this Los Angeles County Municipal course. Wanted to play a course close to LAX but with character. This course has great views, challenging fairway lies (not many flat lies), nice greens, and flat tee boxes. The fairways are OK, not great with the grass. With the holiday, the course was packed. They send off groups of 5 every 7-8 minutes, I chose to walk the course and love walking a course. Not a bad walk considering how slow the pace. We finished in 5 1/2 hours. Despite the slow play, great snack/lunch shop and the views of the sunset into the Pacific Ocean were awesome.

Golf Club At Terra Lago - North Course
Played On 12/10/2019Desert Tournament Course
Played an afternoon round with a GolfNow special including a free beer. The course conditions we very good on the fariways and greens. The 2nd cut was not fully grown in and thin. Bunkers were OK but could use a little more sand. The course is challenging with hazards and the desert very close to fairways and greens especially the front 9. They hosted a USGA qualifier for the 4-ball this past Autumn and I liked the challenge from the back tees. But for my wife from the forward tees, She loved the course and felt she could score (And she did). No beverage cart in the afternoon but one gets back to the clubhouse after No. 9 hole and there is comfort stations with water on the course as well.
PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course
Played On 12/10/2019Tough Green Complexes - Bring your short game
We got Pete Dyed on this course today, nice course winding around a wash area, but bring your "A" short game to this place. Fairways were a beautiful carpet, Greens are on the small side (Aim for the center on every green and you will have a descent birdie putt every time). Greens are raised and there a lot of bunkers. I love the challenge of the course. The way it winds through neighborhood is OK, not great. The price for playing before 8 a.m. was awesome for December in La Quinta.
Indian Wells Golf Resort - Players Course
Played On 12/09/2019Solid Course, Wonderful Greens
Players Course is wonderful manicured for December, fairways and greens in excellent shape, greens run true and fairly quick (not riduculous). The rough is dormant and yellow, fine by me. But with the dormant rough, any ball struck near the edge of the water or desert, most likely will roll into those areas. The course(s) (36 hole facility) play among themselves and not through a neighborhood. Beverage cart came around pretty often and the staff was very friendly. We finished in 4 hrs 30 min, which is also their recommended time.
Lely Resort Golf & Country Club - Mustang Course
Played On 06/21/2019Summer Fun in 3hr 20 min
Played the Mustang Course on a hot summer morning. Staff was very friendly and for $60 played on a championship course including Cart, Range Balls, and Green fees. Water stations and rest rooms were plentiful. The course is a very nice layout with bunkers and hazards in play but not super tight. Replay round was available for $25 . The beverage cart was available late morning on our back 9. I played the green tees at 6,700 yards but I needed to play various clubs off the tees due to the layout and made it fun to think around the course.
Tiburón Golf Club - The Gold Course
Played On 06/19/2019Championship Golf at Summer Florida Rates
Played the Gold Course at Tiburón and WOW what a nice place to enjoy the day. The service and staff friendliness was top notch. The range was well layed out. The course layout was interesting with doglegs, long holes (9 & 18), short holes, and nice variety of par 3s. The course challenging but not overly difficult. The pro shop is really nice and the beverage cart was awesome though beer is expensive. Highly recommend to play this course in the summer when rates are affordable.
Snow Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 02/28/2019Awesome Road Runner Golf
My wife and I played the Snow Mountain course about 1 week after they received over 6" of snow and the course played great. Very good conditioning, Greens were very fast and true, and we finished in 4 hours and 10 minutes in a foursome and packed course.
Considering the elevation and dry air, the ball does travel farther and I did adjust my iron yardages by 1 club. I played the 6600 yard tees and felt they played more like 6100/6200 yards.
The desert views were great and we had snow on the mountains to the west. The word is this is the easiest of the 3 courses at Paiute, still many doglegs over the desert for back 2 tees and water to contend around the course. I will say that my wife did not have as many dogleg carries but the same water hazards sight lines to contend.
Panther Lake at Orange County National
Played On 12/11/2017Solid Course I could play over and over
We came down to play a couple days of winter golf in Orlando and found this solid course at Orange County National. We liked the layout enough, that we chose to play Panther Lake again in the afternoon over its sister course Crooked Cat that we played the day before.
Panther Lake will let you play every club in the bag and challenge you in different respects. Large greens, narrow greens, wide & narrow fairways, forced carries, uphill, downhill, bunkers - this course has really nice blend of golf design. The pines trees on some holes felt very Carolina like while on other holes the mossy oak trees gave a standard Florida feel.
Course conditions were wonderful and of course one needs to understand reading grain on the green to have a chance to putt well. I do like the Orange County National courses because good shots get rewarded without tricked out design. We played the green tees and we were happy with playing around 6400 yards, we all shot lower and mid 80's and never felt the need to go back to the 7,400 yard black tees where Q-School was held for the PGA Tour in the past. Panther Lake's routing is a more traditional with the course guiding you around in a certain direction like play your drive on one side of the fairway or play long on a green because of a huge bunker in front. All four of us agreed this was a course we could play multiple times and have fun depending on the tees.
Grand Cypress Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 12/10/2017WOW - A real thinking course
I finally played Jack Nicklaus tribute to the Old Course and I was thoroughly impressed. To play a course where you are not sure the correct line on your drive makes one think, I love that. This is not an automatic here the only fairway for this hole, there are multiple angles to the hole from the fairways. And I love the double greens complexes, there is certain community on the golf course that you are never far from other players. The conditions - outstanding, the mental level of golf is always on high alert, the layout - awesome. This should be on any golfer's bucket list to play. My only regret is that everyone takes a cart, this would be even better as a walking only course. The clubhouse is excellent and a little pricey - but the food was so well prepared that I felt I received my money's worth. Great 19th hole view of the surrounding golf courses and an awesome staff at the restaurant that never let our drinks empty.
Crooked Cat at Orange County National
Played On 12/10/2017Rounding Up the Cat
First time playing Crooked Cat on a morning in Orlando at 41 degrees in December. The course conditions were excellent and the layout is challenging. But the layout is not memorable. For the money, you get a really nice manicured course that let you play golf. We played the green tees at around 6,400 yards and that was enough course considering the cold weather. The clubhouse is very nice and the bar/restaurant is headed by very friendly bartenders and good food. As far as playing tips, if you hit good drives - you are rewarded, putting the greens - understand how to read the grain, it will make a difference. We enjoyed Crooked Cat though my group like the sister course, Panther Lake a little better.
Warren Golf Course At Notre Dame
Played On 09/16/2017Interesting Putting Complexes
My first time at Warren GC, due to host the 2019 USGA US Senior Open. A very nice layout designed by Coore/Crenshaw design team. Fairways are generous in the landing zones, tightened up near all the greens. The greens well protected with bunkers and rough. The size the of greens will depend on the design of the hole, short par 4s and par 5s, small greens; long par 4s and long par 3s, big greens. The greens are undulating feature multi-levels, dome humps, and roll very nice. The first par 3, No. 4 hole and a great No. 16 hole have the most complex greens of the 18. This is a very walk-friendly course as this is the home course for Notre Dame University. My opinion, save $20 and walk. All the Par 5s are reachable but the green complexes do not receive long shots very well especially No. 10. With the current routing, one is able to access the Warren grill after holes 6, 9, 15, and 18. Water coolers are also spread out about every 3 holes. The practice range is fair but could use better grass, the practice green is nice plus a nice small chipping green and sand bunker for practice before teeing off on No. 1 hole. There seems to be better practice facilities at the other end of the range where the Notre Dame teams practice. Holes to watch and worth remembering, Holes 7 and 8: great and difficult par 4s back to back & Holes 16 & 18 are very picturesque and difficult with forced carries off the tee. I cannot wait to get back and play this one again!!!
Kampen at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex
Played On 08/27/2017Top Notch Facility without the Price
I walked this course on a Sunday afternoon for $40. The course conditions are excellent, fairways like carpet and greens rolled very nice. The layout is tough so one needs to be careful on the tee box they choose. Go up one and have fun. Variety is the flavor, straight holes, dog-legs, over water, next to water, tall grasses, swales, and a fair amount of sand. You will need to think around the course as the rough and hazards come in to play a lot. This course has hosted a Women's NCAA Championship and a regional for the Men's NCAA. Walking the course is not bad though you do go through 2 tunnels twice in the round to add some mileage. If you think your game is good, give this course a try from the blue tees at almost 6,900 yards, it's a stern test that ends with a 470 yard par 4. The back tees (7,465 yards), way too long for this player.
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 08/25/2017Target golf course in excellent condition
Lost Marsh may be in the best course condition shape in years. This is a target-oriented golf course that plays tough from the back 2 tee boxes (Silver - 6370 & Black - 6803 yds). The yardage is not long but the tightness of the course makes it play longer. The course's defenses are hazards (water & marshes), the wind, and the layout with strategic tree locations. Couples of tips - 1) Do not use driver off the tee at holes 1, 4, 5, and 15: not necessary and brings more hazards into trouble without any good reward. 2) Holes 7 & 12 have strategic tree lines to avoid on the drive or they make your 2nd shot impossible. OTHER STUFF: The snack shack is very convenient as you can visit after holes 8, 11, or 13. The clubhouse is beautiful with a good bar, restaurant, and locker room. The bar also has an outdoor patio area overlooking the course and the Chicago skyline. Good course that tests your accuracy of your shots. Good Luck!
